>Yes, there are Christians there but more times than not, there are a lot of non Christian listeners/attendees. That causes a lot of mixed ideas as to what happens in a mosh pit

I don't think I was clear enough in my statement. These bands are producing music that insights (or maybe a better way of saying it is "gives a space for") violence. At some point, the people making that music have to take a little bit of the hit, because they are complicit in the actions.

>Also, people like you give me hope that I can still become a pastor and find work and not be exiled from the church XD

Glad it gives you hope, but there's a couple things. First, it isn't easy, and objectionable things like musical preferences become something that you just avoid mentioning. Christians are a strange bunch, and our group has a tendency to go on crusades over the most insignificant things. Don't think that your musical preferences won't become something you're immune from being attacked over.

Second, you're in a little better position than I. Again, I grew up on Marilyn Manson, and still really enjoy the (roughly) first half of his (their) catalogue. My three favorite bands are Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, and Tool, all of which are not just seething non-Christians, but very vocal with their criticism of the Church.

Luckily, the church that I pastored at a couple years ago (I moved when I got married, but we're moving back this fall) is really amazing. The Associate Pastor and I are very close, dear friends. He and I did a 2-part series called "Christ and Culture", loosely inspired by this book.

He did a talk on John Lennon, and I did mine on Marilyn Manson. We just explored who they are, their upbringing, their music, and the general Christological implications therein. We asked questions like "What would this person say to Jesus if he were standing in front of him" and "What would Jesus say to this person if he were standing in front of him.

Moral of the story, find a real Christ-loving church with cool leadership and openly explore and talk about issues wherever possible.

It's hard to debate with someone who seems to auto-set themself to "Christ Against Culture" and then sets about condemning everyone else.

Like somehow, the character of Christ can be divined by grabbing a random slice of local pop culture, doing the opposite of that, and BAM! Instant Presence of Jesus!

Have you read Christ and Culture by, Niebuhr? It's this...

For the record, I'm Christ and Culture in Paradox. If you want understand that, I guess buy the book?

Christ Against Culture is hopeless... Simplistic, incomplete, and human-centered. I can't reasonably debate it, because it is inherently unreasonable.

Christ in Culture, I can kind of do...

Christ Transforming Culture, that's certainly part of it.

But you seem to be looking for which human culture is RIGHT. And the Paradox says NONE and never will be... Further, you cannot comprehend a Christ Centered Culture, and neither can I.

So knock off the competition between your church and mine... It's a fight between Tweedledee and Tweedledum. You're one, I'm the other.

Pick one.

Congratulations. You're wrong.

And so am I.

What do you have issue with in Episcopalianism anyway? The gays?

Jesus didn't talk about that and you know it.
