Coco Natural's are REALLY cheap online. I just got a pack of 108 for ~$15

Here is the link.
I was wrong though, I thought it was $12 for 108, it's $14, putting them at about 1 cent more per coal.

I like to consider myself a Hookah enthusiast at this point, I love the gadgets that improve my experience, and I'll list you a few. I'd also like to point out that I get my supplies from two places:
www.amazon.com
www.hookah-shisha.com

If you haven't invested yet, there are some things that are basically a bare minimum in the hookah world(my opinion).. Coconut coals (I always recommend Coco nara, but Never X hale worked pretty well also. I've had some other ones that were.. well, bad... Avoid anything with paint on the outside, splurge and just get the coco nara.)

It's also worth noting that The Mystique ice tips are probably the #1 largest improvement for your hookah-smoking experience. I'd recommend getting them off of amazon, if you smoke hookah for over 2 hours at a time, it's probably worth getting 3 of them:
http://www.amazon.com/Mystique-Ice-Hose-Chiller-Hookah/dp/B00BU925GC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453620325&sr=8-1&keywords=mystique+ice+tip

You'll also need a hose that can fit the Mystique tips. I repeatedly have been satisfied with Nammor hookah hoses, but never really bothered to look for another hose that can house a Mystique tip.

In my experience, the hookah doesn't really matter too much, the key thing is usually the ash tray, the basin hole size (cleaning), and optionally, if you pass it a lot, swivel bases.

The hookah I've been using for the last year has been very good to me, the only real downside is cleaning it is a pain. See here:

My favorite Tobacco has been for quite some time, Starbuzz, I also like Fantasia, I enjoyed Tangiers, but the majority of my friends don't, and you are pretty likely to get sick off of it if you're smoking with less than 3 people. You probably will anyways. These I'll pick up at local retailers, or hookah-shisha, my previous experience on Amazon has been pretty bad with tobacco quality, unfortunately.

I've been very satisfied with my (two) lotuses. I got an extra one for free thanks to Amazons carrier, I called them and they sent me an extra one, two days later a neighbor delivered my package saying it was left at their door.

Sorry if I rambled here, it's my first post and I wanted to (hopefully) be regarded as helpful. Best of luck!

Are you saying these are fake? Seems to be by the company, free shipping, great reviews.

New to Tampa hookah enthusiast here... take time and research what you're looking for. Ordering online might not be a bad idea. If you're looking to share with a group, one that rotates is a great idea, otherwise you might end up having a friend you've known from highschool burn holes in your carpet as she stumbles after an intense drinking game in which she only drank vodka and sprite.

Smaller ones are nice if it's just you or you and an SO, and you can find tiny hookahs for about $20 at the tobacco store near K-Mart in... Lutz? Land O' Lakes? Still learning the lay of the land. Also, not sure if that hookah's any good. Sometimes they're a bit of a gamble.

Also, try a bunch of different flavors. Al Fakher and Fantasia are two of mine... Al Fakher being great on flavor and smoke, Fantasia having lots of molasses and an unusual assortment of flavors. Haven't had a lot of luck with Starbreeze, but some friends swear by it. I highly recommend Fantasia's Mai Tai and Rainbow and Al Fakher's Grape with Berry. They're usually crowd pleasers.

In regards to coals, we used the quick light coals for a long time but ended up switching to Coco Nara coconut shell coals. I highly, highly recommend Coco Nara. They need to be lit on a stove, but they burn forever, don't taste as 'burny' as the quick lights, burn forever and leave a much smaller mess. You can buy these at Raa's Specialty Foods on 54 (I think that's where it is), near Bosco's Italian.

As for the bowl, couple of tips... if you can find a bowl and metal screen combo that fit together, get that. It's nicer and less wasteful than aluminum foil. Make sure when you pack the bowl the shisha isn't touching the screen/foil above it, otherwise it'll burn and taste like Satan is violating your throat. If you use foil, poke lots of little holes but a few large ones that go through the shisha.

A couple of neat accessories are ice tips, which will require a special hose (sadly, we don't have these yet... need a job first. lol), but let you freeze them ahead of time for a crazy smooth smoke. It also kills the flavor of some of the shisha you'll find, so experiment.

Of course, always use fresh water each time. We've tried things like sangria and flavored waters before, and they're... weird. Not bad, but very mild. A handful of mint leaves is nice though.

Anywho, sorry to rant, but I love meeting other hookah enthusiasts. I had a lot of bumpy starts getting used to using hookah, but it's become a favorite thing of ours in the evening while we're writing or watching tv.

If you have any questions, by all means feel free to shoot me a PM. And if you find any awesome hookah places, please tell me!

We just moved to Tampa, so we aren't really settled, but maybe we'll see you around sometime!

EDIT: Also, make sure you get extra grommets for the bowl and maybe a few for where the hose meets the body, just to ensure a snug fit. They can melt if you have the hookah burning for too many consecutive bowls.

TL:DR Why name a Chinese food restaurant 'Ichiban'?

I can't comment on specific Boise locations, but as far as good coals go, you can get some good coals online for a good price. I like Coco Nara. Just make sure you store them properly or they can go bad.

I've been to Big Smoke elsewhere in Idaho. They were far from my favorite place to purchase from, but they should carry most brands, including some good ones (albeit limited selection, and not the best prices).

My preferences are Al Fakher (nice and wet. Burns well and gives nice smoke), and Nakhla (most popular amongst middle eastern smokers and often higher nicotine content; 0.5% opposed to 0.05%.)

My best results have been from mixing a Nakhla flavor with an Al Fakhker. I find Nakhla to be a bit on the drier side.

Starbuzz is also a safe go-to brand.

I wish I could give you a specific answer, but my best experiences have been middle eastern run stores. They have offered my brands at as little as half as what Big Smoke does, and they carry a wide selection (up to 20 flavors of Al Fakher vs maybe 3-4 at Big Smoke).

Happy hunting

108 coco naras

and now im trying to decide on what hose I want/works.

u/sweetbeans2 · 1 pointr/hookah

Personally, i would recommend upgrading to coco naras. They're inexpensive ($8 for 108 of them) and most of /r/hookah seems to love them. I have personally used insta-lights and coco naras in the same night and there is a notable difference in the quality of the smoke, not just in the flavor but in the clouds as well. (Bonus: buying off smile.amazon.com instead of the normal amazon.com sends a portion of your purchase to a charity of your choosing).

Other than that, possibly a phunnel bowl and some tangiers, fumari or argelini shisha.

Also, there is a fairly detailed buyers guide here on /r/ hookah.
