Coleman 40% applied before a 1 mile double portage keeps em off the whole time. Plus it has those rotating locking caps.

Also you can buy 100% deet which will straight up melt plastic so be careful what you spray it on. but it's about as effective as you think it will be. I spray it on my hat whenever I'm sick of that buzzing around my ear thing.
