CompTIA is a certification board. They make tests that you can take and if you pass you get to say "I'm A+/Network+/Security+ Certified" on your resume. The tests are pretty expensive to take (A+ is like $300), but there are tons of materials available to learn the stuff on the tests.

A+ is the first level, then you can do Network+ and Security+. Sec+ IT professionals usually make at least $65k, but it's an extremely rigorous test and I'd be surprised if anyone could pass it just through studying in books. It takes a bit of hands-on experience

A+ is a lot easier and covers a broad spectrum of IT related knowledge, including networking and security.

Here's Professor Messer's A+ training video website: http://www.professormesser.com/free-a-plus-training/free-a-plus/

That first video should give you a good overview of what A+ certification is and how it works.

Here's a sub with people that are in various stages of the certification process: /r/CompTIA

My main way of studying was to just run through all the example questions that came on the CD with this book and research anything I got wrong: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0789749742/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687602&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0789749718&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=03EMKPY8B6AYZC387ABM

I love helping people out, so feel free to message me if you have any questions. Doesn't bother me a bit.

Sorry for the wait.

I used ExamCompass, Crucial Exams, and this Practice Question Book. You can also search online for other things, these weren't the only things I used.

The previously mentioned resources are great. I'll add to it:

If you want some great books, I used this (The CD is great for practice exams!) and [this] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009F09OBW/) which follows the objectives perfectly. I can loan the Kindle version to you for 14 days if you're interested. Just send me a message. :) Good Luck! I just passed the 802 today! I'm officially certified!

Also, be sure and download the CompTiA A+ Exam objectives and use it as a checklist as you learn!

Buy this book, which contains four 100-question practice exams, with a detailed explanation of each answer. Be sure the book contains the CD (if you were to buy it used or rent it): https://smile.amazon.com/CompTIA-220-801-220-802-Practice-Questions/dp/0789749742/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465895293&sr=8-1&keywords=comptia+a%2B+prowse+801

This is what I used. Meyers and this one are also very popular.

Since you already have that school one, I'd wouldn't worry too much about it though. Though I do recomend a practice book, like this one. And remember that aside from multiple answer questions, there are also a few "labs."
