Get a stubble trimmer that allows you to easily adjust the height of the trimmers.

No personal experience, but I hear this is great.

One thing I can say is, be sure to wash your face twice a day, and moisturize overnight. It will really help your skins irritation and will eventually help it adjust.

I'm in the same boat. I've been using this istubble thing for a while with great results. You can actually dial in the desired length from 0.6 mm to 5.0 mm in increments of 0.2-0.5 mm. I've had it for over a year without problems...

I too get bad ingrown hairs when I shave too close and this trimmer has eliminated them.

I've used Norelco's for a long time until I saw the reviews for the IStubble by Conair. All my Norelco's could only go as short as 1mm and since I have a lot of facial hair, I wanted my stubble to be even shorter so it is less pronounced and more 5 o'clock shadow-ish. The IStubble goes to .4 mm which is perfect for me.

I have to say the Istubble wins hands down against any of my Norelcos. Also, its pivoting head makes it a lot easier to get around my chin thoroughly.

and then I still use my electric to shape up my side burns and clean around some general spots (the boarders where the beard fizzles out mostly)

Consider using a stubble trimmer, if you can get away with it. Takes only a minute or two in the morning, gets facial hair to about 0.4mm. You still have stubble, but it isn't like you look unkempt.

Bought that one about 3 years ago.

There's probably better options available now, but that one is cheap and it has an adjustable trimming height. I usually go 0.8mm to leave a little bit of stubble, preventing ingrown hairs.

I use a stubble trimmer that cuts it to 2.5mm every 2 days. Any longer than that and it starts looking unkempt. The specific trimmer I use is this Conair i-Stubble (look, it's even got a cool name!)

In my opinion the most important part is not about how you style what facial hair you have, it's about keeping the unwanted away. Keep it clean below the neck line, don't let it crawl too far up the cheeks.

I think the consensus for this question in the past has been the iStubble... I have no first hand experience with it however.

It really depends on what you're looking for. I personally swear by ConAir's i-Stubble trimmer for a shorter facial hair. Bought my dad one for Christmas last year and now the rest of the family wants one too.
