Definitely get a cheap 3rd party cooler for that CPU my dude. An H7 would do just fine.

Edit: On second thought, Cryorig must be going out of business because the cooler I paid under around $30 is now well over $100. Another great option would be the budget king H212 Evo and step-ups include Noctua's offering or the Scythe Mugen, BeQuiet's, all are great budget coolers.

"I priced everything out online and this is what it's worth" suuurrreee....

u/Kyrond · 22 pointsr/buildapc

Just my opinion, I am no expert, but these seem like the best choices as they are popular, and consideration how much work it would take to design them.
Also check the most popular on Amazon, Newegg and PC part picker.

CPUs from one socket look almost the same right?
So a LGA 1151 and AM3+ CPUs.

For RAM, classic PCB with black chips, maybe another one with a very simple heatspreader in different colors, as it would take quite a lot of work to create realistic heatspreaders for little benefit IMO.

Any HDD, they all look similar.

For SSDs, Samsung are the most popular and very simple to do.

Three most popular CPU coolers prolly are CRYORIG H7, Hyper 212 EVO, and Corsair H100i, maybe with addition of a single fan AIO like Corsair H55.

GPUs are tougher:

u/Dragnerok_X · 18 pointsr/lowendgaming

I wouldn't call that a deal; I'd call that a scam. Notice that the seller is "Just Launched", is asking $20 less than the competition, and most importantly has no buyer feedback.

u/VRFour · 16 pointsr/buildapc

As far as bang for your buck, I think the Hyper 212+ is a better buy. It's about two-thirds of the price of the Hyper 212 Evo and you'll only see a minimal benefit with the Evo (which is from the better fan, if I recall correctly).

You really can't go wrong with either cooler but if you're already over budget or need to save a few dollars somewhere, I'd say the 212+ is a better buy - especially if you're only doing some conservative overclocking.

u/dramamoose · 11 pointsr/paradoxplaza

Those first three games are likely CPU limited while Rainbow Six is probably GPU limited. My immediate thought is overheating. Use a temperature monitoring software to check the temperature on your CPU. If it's high, consider cleaning out your CPU fan or replacing the thermal paste on your fan.

If you don't have one, I'd suggest getting an after-market CPU cooler. The Cooler Master 212 is what I use and I've always been extremely satisfied with the results. With the 4590 you won't have much room to overclock, but it will guarantee you aren't running into any thermal problems.

u/Lord0fgames · 6 pointsr/Warthunder

Ever heard of saving your money? $40 is quite a bit and adds up quickly if it's a recurring amount.

For $40 though, it's more of being able to upgrade parts that you might get. an i5-7500 vs an i5-7600k is a $40 difference.

Upgrading from a regular cpu fan to watercooling is <$40.

Although mining has ruined the prices, upgrading from a gtx 1050 to a 1050ti is <$40

8GB of ram is just over $40.

u/xavierthegreat · 6 pointsr/CableManagement

Good work, your cable management is excellent!

I have a couple of recommendations for you build:

I'd recommend buying a new CPU cooler when you can. The Intel ones are good, but there are so many better ones on the market.

Try this one - I used it in my build for like 3 years. Keeps temps down and fans quiet.

Another thing you may consider is an SSD. You'd be surprised by how cheap they are right now. Here is a 480Gb SSD for only $118 USD.

And as /u/nolo_me said, definitely flip that PSU if it's not too much trouble. Better performance, better sound, better temps.

u/thefeeltrain · 5 pointsr/installation01

Use eBay.

u/e-racer · 5 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I know that feel bro, I had a AMD Phenom II x4 965BE that also ran at 125W. After upgrading to a Hyper 212 sound and noise were no longer an issue, (just size was, and I went without my stock case side panel the whole summer, lel)

Here is a $20 cpu cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103064&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-CPU+Fans+%26+Heatsinks-_-N82E16835103064&gclid=CjwKEAiAg_CnBRDc1N_wuoCiwyESJABpBuMXlsgcfmGTOTavNvaSEJXZrNDQStKLkb4A_PBBXCHx-BoC-T_w_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
And a comparison to the stock cooler on the fx 8350:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH9Oj_g6xYU

Or if you have $35 you can get the Hyper 212:
http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425882089&sr=8-1&keywords=212+evo , its better performance and almost silent for me (its been with my phenom and now its with my intel)

u/ConorTheCreator · 5 pointsr/gaming

What are you going to do with your PC? If it's just gaming then an i7 is a bit overkill. I'd recommend the FX 8350 with this build and if you want to overclock, I'd recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler. And you're right, it would be a great gift!

u/chrassc · 5 pointsr/buildapc

Your cooler is just a fan, get the CM Hyper 212 EVO. Your motherboard is incompatible with the processor, get the MSI H81M-P33. Your harddrive is a slow spinny spinny, get the WD Caviar Blue. Your graphics card/cpu is unbalanced, either downgrade the processor to the Intel i3-4160, or upgrade the graphics card to a GTX 960 or R9 380.

Edit: No aftermarket cooler with the i3-4160.

I see lots of downvotes to this guy who's obviously not as experienced as you guys. What's the purpose of this subreddit again? I thought it was for newer builders to ask questions and experienced builders to help.

OP, you've probably gathered by now that your stock i5 cooler isn't going to good enough. For how much I like to rag on Intel and performance per watt (essentially, performance compared to heat output) the 8700K isn't terrible. The Windale 6 is roughly $45 and perfectly competent with cooling the 8700K. If you wanted a cheaper solution the Cooler Master Hyper 212 is also a fairly solid choice. Personally I'd recommend the Windale 6 over the Hyper 212 but if, for some reason, the $15 difference is necessary the Hyper 212 would be competent. You wouldn't be able to squeeze as much performance out of the 8700K with the Hyper 212 as you could with the Windale 6 but it would get the job done.

Omg your friend is an ass! I’m sorry but I’m amazed that thing is running! Please refrain from having the computer on until you get a proper cooler for BOTH your processor and graphics card. You are likely damaging the computer every time you run it.

for the processor

I don’t know what to do about the graphics card honestly but you need to cool that as well. You might be better off getting water cooling and installing it. But you also need to cool the GPU as well.

That picture of the acrylic that you don’t what it is, that is a water cooling block for the GPU!

Same with the processor, that’s a water cooling block sitting on it!

Your friend literally took out the water cooling but didn’t replace the fans!

Note: $28

Edit 4: If you want peripherals that's gonna be around $1000 in total for decent crap. I would suggest a 1080p 60hz monitor, a mechanical keyboard ( I use a G. Skillz KM780 RGB and it is fabulous), a nice pair of headphones HyperX cloud 2, and a nice set of speakers Logitech Z506. Also idk what you have but get a wifi adapter as well unless you can hook up to Ethernet which is highly recommended.

Edit 5: If any other questions just PM me glad to help you out more.

Edit 6: shit I forgot drives and OS. I'm too tired to link things anymore so I suggest getting a 128gb Samsung PRO SSD for your OS and main shit then get a Seagate 1TB HDD and you're good to go. Hopefully I covered everything.

Honestly 500-600 wouldn't make a very decent computer for a first rig. You can make one and well I made one just right now but that doesn't take into account peripherals. If you wanted 500-600 WITH peripherals that would have been the hardest budget build of my life. To maintain quality and performance, I'm cringing just thinking of it.

The Z77 board should be completely compatible with your CPU the question is HP and other manufacturer have been known ro glue or even sodder CPUs to the boards. Don't know if they still do but they've done it in the past. While your at it get a after market cooler ideally this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005O65JXI/ref=pd_aw_sbs_1?pi=SY115&simLd=1 it cools the best for almost any price point including lower end Water Cooling systems. And it's one of the quietest. Good luck

I personally don't have an extra one. But just advice you can grab one for $23 on amazon used if that's within your budget. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B005O65JXI/

Fortunately not needed. I did a lot of temp testing while setting it up, and 5 of these babies (2 in front, 2 in back, 1 on top) and this thing are enough to keep anything from getting to 60C. Surprisingly quiet too.

Next machine I will probably opt for water though.

If things are running hot in the CPU, you could also get a Hyper Evo 212.

u/sadisticpotato · 3 pointsr/buildapc

On a stock CPU, you don't need a watercooler at all. Even the stock cooler will do perfectly fine on stock speeds. However, you should probably consider overclocking your CPU, as you have a K-series, which is unlocked. Just make sure you have a supported (re: Z170) motherboard.

Now for the cooler; if you aren't planning on overclocking, just use your stock cooler. If you don't have it, I'd recommend the Hyper 212 EVO, as it's cheap and does the job. Also gives you ample headroom for moderate overclocking in the future. If you are really planning on overclocking, I'd actually recommend the H100i v2, as it's only $10 more, but provides much better cooling performance because it's a 240mm rad. You should get 4+ Ghz easy on that cooler. >= 4.5 Ghz really depends on the CPU, or the "silicon lottery" as they say.

u/Nahors · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I think its fine from what i know about pc building. But if you want faster boot times then think about getting a ssd and if you want to over clock think about getting a better cpu cooler. The stock Ryzen 3 cooler is not bad but if you want to get some good overclock on it think about getting a after market cooler. This is one i found on amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-RR-212E-20PK-R2-120mm/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1505260014&sr=1-4&keywords=CPU+cooler Also if you want a water cooled one you need to see if your case supports water cooling.

u/Iceheim · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

well, back to topic;

Do you absolutely must include Corsair h100i in your build ? i think you can save some by using air cooler and use the budget saved from that for Graphic card or CPU.

For example, this 212 Evo here.

  • i5-7600k - This 4 core 4 thread CPU is awesome for gaming but struggles under heavily multi-threaded workloads. It doesn't come with a cooler, I would recomend this one. Total price w/CPU cooler = $244.88 USD

  • AMD Ryzen 7 1700 - This 8 core 16 thread CPU is an absolute multi-threaded beast for the price. It's quite a lot less powerful per-core than the i5-7600k which will hurt gaming performance if your CPU is the limiting factor. It comes with a fancy RGB cooler. It's price has been dropping quite a lot recently, already down to $269.99 USD

  • AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - This 6 core 12 thread CPU is pretty much the same as the R7 1700 but with two fewer cores and four less total logical threads. It will have near the same single threaded performance as the 1700. This will also work with the same motherboards as the 1700. It ships with a slightly less fancy cooler as the 1700, but it will still keep it cool. Price is very good at $199.99 USD

This small guide is only for CPUs, for GPUs all you have to do is download a program, I'll link that at the bottom

--

First off, you gotta make sure your board is capable of overclocking, chances are you have a Z-series board because you have a k series processor.

K Series processor = overclockable

Z Series motherboard = overclockable

Those are just the basics, I assume you know them.

So to overclock, you're going to need to go into your BIOS, again depends on your motherboard, but while booting up you should press either, F1, F2, F10, Delete or Escape. Once you've figured out the key to get into your BIOS, you can start tweaking.

A really important thing if you're going to overclock is an aftermarket cooler, such as a Hyper 212 (Great value) or a Corsair H115i (Top of line watercooler, pricey) or an equivelent air cooler, like the Noctua NH-D15 (My personal favorite, it's what I hit my 4.9 GHz OC on)

If you already have an after market cooler, that's perfect, and you can continue. But if you don't, I highly recommend picking up a Hyper 212, it's only $25 and will get you a huge amount of performance out of your PC, until then I'd highly reccomend not OCing.

Here are the next steps, I would type them all myself, but that article summarized perfectly, and it's very recent too.

--

As for overclocking your GPU, just download your GPU's Brand-specific program, like MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision X, etc. They really all work on any GPU, but it's nice to use the one "made" for your specific GPU.

(Note, these only work on Nvidia cards, you'll have to download completely different stuff for AMD)

I hope this helps, don't be afraid of pushing your system, just don't push it too far. Either way, the worst that would happen if you OC "too" hard is you'll BSOD on startup and you'll just have to set your multiplier/voltage lower. It won't affect the longevity of your PC in any way, Enjoy!

u/sjforeversj · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I recommend to just stick with the stock cooler and save a few bucks, but if you really want an after market cooler the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO should work great.

u/wannabuyameme · 3 pointsr/Amd

I had my old 8320 at 4.5 ghz on a Hyper 212 evo and it was certainly worth it over the stock clocks, but definitely get a better cooler, the stock one cannot handle overclocking.

u/CuppaJoe12 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Wow, I'm literally about to order the same build. I'm getting a H100i cpu cooler, the Maximus VI Hero instead of the Z87 pro mobo, and a Seagate Barracuda 1TB instead of a Caviar Blue 1TB HD. I'm also getting the red/black version to match my mobo. Everything else is the same even the same brand GTX 770. Please let me know how it runs, especially how quiet it is.

You have a lot of fans and an overclockable CPU. I would recommend you get an aftermarket CPU cooler to take advantage of these features. As I said above, I'm gonna try the Corsair H100i, but it is pretty expensive. Some less expensive air coolers that I think would look good in this build are

[Phanteks TC12DX](http://www.amazon.com/Phanteks-U-Type-Heat-Sink-Cooler-PH-TC12DX_BK/dp/B00AXUTKEE/ref=sr_1_10? fs=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1393992252&sr=1-10&keywords=phanteks+ph-tc14pe) for $60 on [sale for $40 + shipping] (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7616870) right now

Enermax ETS-T40 for $50 (also has leds on the stock fans)

And of course, the [Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo] (http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1393992767&sr=1-1&keywords=hyper+212+evo) for $35 which doesn't match as well but is cheap.

Great job on cable management (it's supposedly easy in this case) and I agree that it need a light on the inside. Let me know what light you end up getting because now I want one too.

u/Natemiester · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

That depends on whether or not you want to OC. I personally have a pretty large overclock (1 GHz) on my i5-3570k, and it's really helped my processor stay competitive. With a Hyper 212 Evo, you can get a great overclock, especially considering it's only $30.

For $2,000, you can score a pretty excellent VR dev rig.

If you're already using UE4, and you've got got your DK1, you're probably relatively familiar with the basic demands— The faster your CPU, the faster everything compiles, and more ability you have to get things done simultaneously outside your IDE. RAM is a similar story, as well letting you play with more polys and textures in whatever modeling program you use. For the GPU, various Oculus people have dropped the hint that you pretty much want a GTX 770 as a baseline for advanced apps [source]. That's consistent with what benchmarks have had to say about what it'll take to drive the (probably) 1440p CV1.

With regards to the OS, there are very few reasons to use Windows 7. You can read some reddit discussions about that here or here, but the moral of the story is that everything works better on 8 except maybe the layout, which you can change.

$2,000 is a good spot— it's pretty much where the bang-for-buck curve becomes a cliff. Here's about how that build looks:

This leaves you with wiggle-room, to make a couple decisions based on your uses and preferences. You could bump one of the monitors up to 27" 1440p, you could bump the very capable GTX 780 up to a 780 Ti, you could move up to 32GB of RAM, increase the size of the SSD, or just pocket the change. It really depends on what apps you're trying to produce, and what your workflow looks like— if it were me, I'd lean towards the 1440p screen, just for workflow reasons.

If you have any questions (or anything to teach me), let me know!

u/Pilzsuppe · 3 pointsr/buildapc

If you don't have a ton of data, you can easily use only 1TB of HDD.

Also, the 212 Evo+ is a good cooler :)

u/Skotzie · 3 pointsr/oculus

Don't be so sad my friend. Performance hasn't increased that much over the past couple of generations of Intel cpu's since Sandy Bridge. Yes a 4690K is an decent upgrade but overall 2500K is not a bad CPU at all. It's still better than almost every AMD CPU in many gaming scenarios.

My recommendation to you is to upgrade your GPU to GTX 970 or similar for amazing value, and then buy an aftermarket cooler for your cpu, so you can overclock your CPU to hefty speeds. Something like the Thermalright True Spirit 140 Power is incredible good for the size and prize. Link to Amazon. Or the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is also very capable for overclocking, though the Thermalright True Spirit 140 power is still quite a bit better.

Here are some video tutorials for overclocking the i5 2500K if you are new to this. It's not as hard as many people think. You don't have to overclock it to extremes, but maybe just a slight overclock like 4.2 or 4.3 GHz with slight voltage increase should be enough and give a decent boost. This small of an overclock might not even require an aftermarket CPU cooler(you can try), but I would recommend it anyways since it is less noisy than the stock cooler, and you can maybe use it for your next CPU too for overclocking.

This will give you a lot of performance increase combined with a GTX 970 upgrade. Though overclocking might not be necessary at first, unless you notice some performance issues.

u/RS_Hauntedpearl · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Really depends on price range. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 is probably the most popular one out there and comes at a pretty nice price point. If you're looking for something more powerful and don't care about cost check out the Noctua NH-D15 which actually beats out some AIO watercoolers.

I personally avoid watercooling due to the higher chance of failure (pump dying) and possible damage to components (leaks) but some swear by it so that's upto you. (Corsair h100i is the most commonly used I believe)

u/Veritas413 · 2 pointsr/techsupport

That's definitely a closed-loop system. These are supposed to last 4-5 years, but they have been known to break before that. There's a propylene glycol/water antifreeze fluid (just like a car) inside them, and a little pump (powered by the blue/green/yellow/black cable) pushes warm water from the CPU to the radiator, where is is cooled down and returned to the processor. When they fail they go one of two ways, either they get a crack in them and the water leaks, or the pump quits working.
It's possible that for some reason your motherboard has decided to not run the CPU fan (which is actually the pump) at 100% even though it's overheating (things like quiet mode can do this) and it's possible that when it's running at say 85% that it's not enough juice to start the pump... Check your BIOS for any quiet/silent mode settings and see if you can disable them. If the CPU fan is showing an RPM rating, this is actually the rating of the pump.

If you have gigabyte's tuning software installed, make sure you max out the CPU fan speed. Pumps are not fans, and it's possible that the pump just isn't getting enough power.

If the pump has gone bad, you can replace it with something similar (expect about the same life span and noise level). Personally, I'd switch to air cooling, as there's less that can go wrong. /r/buildapc could probably make suggestions... The only thing you need to be sure of with your next solution is that it works with AM3 processors. Your motherboard is compatible with standard 3-pin fans and 4-pin PWM fans, so you can pretty much use anything.

Personally, I have this a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo. It's big. Very big. My case side almost doesn't fit on, but it's super quiet and doesn't depend on a pump. When idle, my CPU fan doesn't even need to run. It relies on heatpipes, which are VERY different from water cooling systems.

If you wanted to, you could switch back to a stock heatsink as well. The one that comes with your processor looks like this, but you may have a problem, it clips to a piece of plastic that appears to be missing from your motherboard (see here). You may have problems fitting OEM parts. I believe the Coolermaster fan I listed above will work even though that bracket is missing, but I'm not 100%

*edit: it looks like there's another black cable going into the heatsink in your top picture... Where does that go?

u/ParrotHere · 2 pointsr/techsupport

CPU Coolers usually work with a lot of different boards and CPUs.
For example, THIS CPU cooler works with LGA 2011, 1366, 1151, 1150, 1155, 1156, 775,AMD: FM2+, FM2, FM1, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, AM2 and AM1.

Note: I don't think you really need a new cooler. However, If you want lower temps then you'll need to get a new CPU cooler.

What GPU do you have?

Build complete!

I ultimately decided to buy the ASUS board and replace the CPU cooler while I was at it. A few caveats about the Sabertooth X58:

  1. If you want the X58, consider a case with USB 2.0 ports on the front panel. The Cooler Master HAF 922 only has USB 3.0 ports, which are meant to connect to the motherboard with a 20-pin connector. The X58 lacks a port for this type of connector, so I will have to install something like this Anker Uspeed card if I want to use the front USB ports.

  2. The first two SATA ports on the board are 6 Gb/s, but they are on a separate Marvell controller, which by all accounts is absolute garbage. I am using the 3 Gb/s ports, which are on an Intel controller, and those seem fast enough for me. I disabled the Marvell in the BIOS.

  3. Make sure to switch your storage mode to AHCI if you want to get the most out of your SATA drives. The BIOS defaults to IDE mode. (And the ASUS manual is mostly useless because it doesn't tell you anything you can't already infer from the names of the BIOS settings.)

  4. You need to manually configure the boot order of your hard disks, otherwise it will try the wrong disk and fail to find your OS. I had a moment of panic because I forgot that my boot partition is not on my SSD but rather on the original HDD that came with my Dell.

Personally, I think these are minor issues as long as you're aware of them. And now that I've told you, you are :)

The 5800 series does not require Dell-specific drivers. In fact, Windows 7 detected and installed drivers for pretty much all my hardware on boot. It took a couple reboots to get everything installed.

    Final tally:

u/Knada · 2 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

This is what I picked up after the h60 wasn't keeping my cpu cool enough to play GTAV.

hello, in my opinion you should not get an nvr for the fact that they are expensive and you can not upgrade them down the line, what i recommend is building a pc base nvr and use the blue iris softwere, my recommendation and my current set up is:

if you have an old computer you can save some parts and moeny by reusing the power supply, hdd and maybe the case. all that will be around 250-300, the you will have 200 to buy 4 poe 1080p cameras 50 each, and good things is that you can add more later on, best of the luck, you do need few more parts so let me know if you interested and i will put them together for you. you can take a look at mine at http://mymun2.25u.com:81 demo/demo for username and passowrd.

I bought this 212 EVO from Amazon and set it up today.

I'm really liking it. Keeps the PC cool, it's fairly silent, and definitely worth the price ($22.50 + tax, free s/h).
It says used because there's damage to packaging, however it's not actually been used.

and

For $30 - I'll need a better cooler since I am not currently over clocking the 2500k and am using stock cooling.

Thats $140 - half the cost of a new 6400 combo - do you think that the 2500k will work for the Oculus Rift, and do you think its worth spending that kind of money to salvage?

Well, mainly I needed a new CPU because my PC would shut off completely. I thought it was the PSU but when I ran Prime 95 and stress tested the CPU, I got the same result and my PC would shut off.

I'm keeping my eye out for the RX480 when that comes out. It's supposed to be as good as the GTX 980 and only cost $200. Waiting on benchmarks with heavy breathing.

u/obsequiousmuddle · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I wouldn't get that Kingston ssd. There was a bait and switch with the unit and the early drives (the ones reviewers got) were much faster than the ones they make now. I would replace that with something else like a Samsung 850 EVO. You may also want to consider getting a hard drive for mass storage, videos take up a lot of space.
You could also get an after market CPU cooler to overclock a bit or just get a quieter PC, although it is not necessary. You don't need anything expensive, a hyper 212 evo.
other than that the build looks fine.

u/ubercritical · 2 pointsr/Amd

That would work but for a couple dosh more, I would go with the 212 EVO instead. Unless, for some reason, you NEED the T2.

u/Snoochey · 2 pointsr/wow
u/mikemd1 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

The best and relatively easiest ways to address poor aesthetics in the CPU are a modular or semi-modular PSU and replacement sleeved and color coordinated cables from said PSU, or if they are too expensive (and they are) sleeved cable extensions look just as good and are way cheaper, but create additional cable management.

Regarding a cooling system you should definitely still have one even if you are not OC'ing. If you want to go cheap, get a solid air cooler like the Hyper 212 Evo. If you are more concerned about looks, maybe consider an AIO, like the EVGA CLC240. It's more expensive, but looks nice.

Not 100% sure what you mean about the front facing fan, but if you are asking about fan placement, then yes at the front of the case is fine just make sure it isn't going against the airflow of other fans. If you mean fan orientation, like intake/exhaust, then that is also fine, with the same caveat. Generally speaking you want your airflow coming in the front/bottom and exhausting out the top/back.

PSU:
EVGA 600BQ Semi-Modular (MB power is the only non-modular) https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Bronze-Modular-Warranty-110-BQ-0600-K1/dp/B01MTJTO2O/ref=sr_1_1?crid=244UIDUJ0IXE&keywords=600+watt+power+supply&qid=1556624118&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011%2Cp_36%3A2500-6000%2Cp_89%3ACorsair%7CEVGA%7CSeasonic%7Cbe+quiet%21%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A6906985011&rnid=386442011&rps=1&s=pc&sprefix=600+watt+p%2Caps%2C136&sr=1-1

Cheap option, get this (might be a tight squeeze, requires removing the side panel fan): https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-RR-212E-20PK-R2-Direct-Contact/dp/B005O65JXI

Best option, get this (also requires removing that side panel fan, but might be a tiny bit easier to fit in as it's 2mm shorter): https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NH-U12S-Premium-Cooler-NF-F12/dp/B00C9EYVGY

unless you don't want to remove the side-panel fan at all, then get this, still great cooling: https://www.amazon.com/noctua-Premium-Cooler_Retail-Cooling-NH-C14S

It would also be helpful to know your motherboard model to check the compatibility list. But I'm fairly certain these coolers should fit regardless.

They include decent thermal paste, but the FX8350 is one of the hotter chips and it might be worthwhile to squeeze a few extra degrees out with this paste: https://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Grizzly-Kryonaut-Grease-Paste/dp/B011F7W3LU

The be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 is currently the king of CPU air coolers. If that's out of your price range, nothing beats the price/performance ratio of the Hyper 212 EVO.

u/77xak · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You might need to update the LAN driver on you're motherboard. AMD's stock coolers are usually pretty loud. Some PSU fans are also very loud. You will need to buy an aftermarket cooler before overclocking such as this one.

u/TheDoubleYGamer · 2 pointsr/techsupport
u/Wulfay · 2 pointsr/Folding

Stock intel cooler is NOTORIOUSLY awful. I mean, it's laughed it for how bad it is. Honestly, you would be best off just buying a Hyper 212 Evo. It is THE value budget cooler, and it performs great. You have a 4690k, so it's unlocked for overclocking... why not get a cooler that can allow it to do that competently?

The cooler will allow it to stay at the overclock when folding, and have pretty decent temps to boot. Additionally, you may eliminate some throttling in gaming that you may never know you had.

Regardless of any of this, CPUs generally like to be kept at the lowest temp possible, and if you are planning on helping the Folding@Home cause (which you should!), you are gonna want a beefier cooler to prevent any possible lifespan shortening, no matter how rare that may be with modern CPUs today. It will be quieter too, which I always find is a major plus.

Good luck!

u/pecopls · 2 pointsr/bapccanada

You could, but your bottleneck is without a doubt your CPU. Fortunately, you can upgrade to another LGA 775 compatible chip for a modest cost. Here is a modified QX9650, which seems like a great upgrade over what you've got. Or you can pick up a Q6600 for a slightly lower cost. Actually, I think the Core 2 Extreme processors may not be compatible with your motherboard, I'll leave that in there until I know otherwise (Core 2 Quad Q6600 would definitely work). It should work, the ASUS P5QL manual states that it does (page 28).

I would highly recommend the QX9650 over the Q6600 at that price (far better performance, don't even consider the Q6600 if you can get the QX9650).

You'll probably also want either a new cooler, or at the very least new thermal paste for your upgraded LGA 775 processor (the old stuff on it will be rock hard and unusable). For example, the CM Hyper 212 EVO ($38 Amazon, also available w/ $10 Mail-in rebate on Newegg but +$6 shipping) is compatible with the LGA 775 chipset, but will also be compatible with all modern motherboards (LGA2011 & AM4 with an extra bracket) for when you do your full upgrade in the future. Or if you think you might get a CPU with a fan already included (such as the non-k variant Intel processors, or the non-x AMD AM4 Ryzen processors), you can simply buy new thermal paste and re-apply it when you install your upgraded LGA 775 processor.

If you want more RAM, you'll have to find out if you're currently using DDR2 or DDR3 RAM, documentation on P43 boards is really weak I'm having a tough time figuring out what your board supports (conflicting information all over the place). Then you can add more. Your board supports up to 1066MHz DDR2.

Also, while you're finding out whether you have ddr2 or 3 try and find out which dual core CPU you have, and your current graphics card. Thanks.

tl;dr: Buy a refurbished/pre-owned QX9650, get new thermal paste or a new cpu fan, find out what the speed and timings are of your current ram and then try and match that when you add more (or just buy a new/pre-owned set of 2x4gb DDR2 1066MHz ram).

u/leperaffinity56 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Do yourself a favor. It's 30 bucks and drastically decreases idle and load temps, regardless of oc. It's a little unwieldy to install, but holy Krishna is it worth it.

u/DZCreeper · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Absolutely. The performance gain on the R9 290 can be quite impressive once you overclock it. The reference cooler is loud and not efficient, barely enough for the card to run at stock speed. I know that people are running 290's above the best 390's available.

The aftermarket water cooling mod lets the water cooling handle the GPU core while the stock fan takes care of the power delivery.

It is the cooler that goes over your cpu, the stock will work fine if you're just gaming but i'd really recommend getting an aftermarket cooler such as a Hyper 212 Evo or a CRYORIG M9i. They're relatively easy to put on and are much, much quieter than the stock cooler and allow to overclock and not worry about your cpu temps

This is the one I got. Good price and works extremely well.

u/wallyTHEgecko · 2 pointsr/buildapc

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is basically the standard for air cooling, and cost $30. It'd be perfect for running at stock clock speeds and it should offer enough headroom for very mild overclocks.

The Cryorig H7 is extremely similar. I think I remember seeing a review that mentioned a better fin pattern or something like that so it's supposed to be marginally better than the 212. And the white fan looks pretty cool. I know that this one may or may not require an AM4 adapter kit depending whether or not it comes with the revised backplate. But you can just request that from Cryorig and they'll send on to you.

u/senorroboto · 2 pointsr/buildapc

No problem. Also since you're getting an overclocking CPU, I forgot to recommend you an aftermarket CPU cooler.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo ($491): http://www.amazon.com.mx/Cooler-Master-Hyper-Ventilador-para/dp/B005O65JXI/

u/nerdthatlift · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Definitely, I agree with his suggestion. You can look up low profile air cooler. I don't know if Hyper 212 Evo would fit, but that cooler is really good and it's fairly cheap.

You can also look into Silenx or Noctura NH-L12

u/ManSkirtDude101 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

At that price range you can get a pretty good CPU cooler(comes with thermal paste as well, if you didn't know that btw). Even if you don't have any plan on overclocking you can still get it just for less fan noise. If you don't care about either stock fan should be fine as long as you buy some new thermal paste.

u/j-mt · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Here it is with a Thermalright Truespirit 120, which is about 10mm smaller than a 212+. The Hyper T4 is probably a better option.

You have a 4690k which is an awsome CPU, but you don't have a cpu cooler(well you have the bundled stock cooler, but it's shit) instead i recommend Cooler master I've linked below(This will let you OC your CPU in the future since you have the "k" edition). You will also want to buy thermal paste for it(don't skimp out on this it's a cheap way to drop your temps). Finally, Windows 8.1 has better performance than w7(faster booting, and even a few frames higher in some games), and you can set it to boot into desktop mode so you don't have to look at metro UI. Also Microsoft is dropping mainstream support for w7 sometime in 2015 meaning you wont receive anymore updates, just a few essential security patches.

Probably. Overclocking with a stock heatsink is a nono. Get this one for only $34.

u/Ugotowned441 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You should definitely look into getting a heatsink/fan for the CPU. I recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Great CFM with little noise and fair price.

u/GooberDanger · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Read my post and what I say about Aio coolers. Typically I wouldn't recommend building a custom loop if you're new to pc's. Even aio coolers aren't needed for the average gamer. This is one of the most commonly used aftermarket air coolers, with almost 8k amazon reviews, you know there's something right about it. Something like this would be ideal for a new pc builder.

u/WeedNine · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

People complain about costs but I went to electronics recycler in town and took heatsinks from some old computers, with the pump, clear vinyl tubing, and a peice of ABS plastic to mount it all on total cost was $28 CAD for the parts I am using now.

I bought this [kit] (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01M66ZSXT/ref=cfb_at_prodpg) but the heatsink/fan was not big enough to actually cool the TEC. so I used a bigger one, a CoolerMasterHyper 212 that was free via salvage. I used this pump and here is my heat exchanger that sits in the nutrient solution and simply run salt water through it because the coolant will freeze near the cooling pad it you use regular tapwater. Goes to about -5 C.

u/Crimtide · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Just buy a cheap Hyper 212 EVO or something similar, if it can fit in your case.

u/MrForeverloud · 2 pointsr/Warframe

Ok, so I hadn't really planned on making this a long response, but here we are with a nice little wall.

TL;DR at the bottom if you don't care about the smaller details.

Turbo is a processor-based function. I used to have a non-K processor and that still turbos. The K model processors also have turbo stats. Overclocking refers to pushing the processor's base speed(in your example: 3.2Ghz) past the manufacturer recommended specs. After overclocking, you can still acheive higher speeds with the Turbo functionality, but it doesn't tend to kick in as often since you already have it overclocked.

K processors have unlocked multipliers which makes overclocking much easier. However, you can still overclock a non-K processor, it is just more difficult, usually less stable, and takes a good bit more technical knowledge since it requires manually adjusting voltages and other settings from the advanced menu on your motherboard(if applicable). With K processors, many newer motherboards(especially higher end ones, gaming ones, etc.) have either a hardware or software(within the BIOS) button/switch which will attempt to automatically calculate a safe and stable operating clock speed above the manufacturer recommended spec.

Depending on your processor and how "well" it overclocks, you may see a large boost in performance. For example, a common budget overclocking CPU(Intel-based) is the Pentium G3258 Anniversary edition. In most cases, you will see a pretty substantial boost to your clock speed(each board and CPU combo will work slightly differently due to each manufacturer's programming). I used to use the above mentioned Pentium CPU until I was able to save up for an i5. IIRC, it's base clock is also 3.2GHz, and with an aftermarket cooler I was able to overclock it to 4.0/4.1GHz using my motherboard's auto-overclock function. With manual tuning, I was able to jump it up to 4.3 and still have it be stable. I now use an i5 4690(non-K) and a water cooler. I have not yet overclocked my i5 since I've had great performance out of it and haven't seen the need to apply any tweaks.

TL;DR, You're kinda right in that Turbo increases clock speed(this is a processor function), but overclocking is actually a separate function related to your motherboard and its power settings.

u/divijkm · 2 pointsr/IndianGaming

A good cooler for this would be Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for 3000. So, the cost goes to around 23000. This is a 100% premium over the r5.1600 for sure, but you get a 15% increase in performance and 2 cores and 4 threads.

I personally wont go for it, but there are people who want a high end CPU and this is the one to get.

It is the best affordable workstation cpu in the market. Another good option is https://mdcomputers.in/amd-octa-core-ryzen-7-1800x.html @ 23000/-

u/scswift · 2 pointsr/oculus

Your upgrade looks like it will be way cheaper than mine was.

I got the Rift on sale for $350, but my PC was like 10 years old with only a new SSD in it.

Ended up getting an i5-9600K + MSI Z390 Gaming Edge for $470, 16 GB of RAM, Cooler Master 212 EVO which turned out to be huge and a huge pain in the ass to install (I recommend watching the video on that page that I didn't notice until after I installed the thing with only it's Ikea-like instructions.), but that big fan means it's far quieter than the tiny stock fans processors usually come with. The i5-9600K does not come with a fan either, so I had no choice and this was the most popular one on NewEgg.

Also got myself an MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 used on Ebay for $270. And because it only has one HDMI port, I decided to use that for the RIFT because it was less risky, and got a Displayport to HDMI cable which supports audio for my monitor which has the speakers built in and does not have a Displayport connector. Only afterward while taking my PC apart however did I realize I had the HMDI cable plugged into my old card with a DVI adapter, and the Gaming X has a DVI port as well, so I could have saved the money on the cable. :(

Also at the last minute I had to run out and grab a Corsair 750W power supply because my perfectly good Coolermaster 750W power supply did not have an 8 pin connector for my CPU. Of course, when I got it home it did not have the 4 pin connector and the motherboard has both a 4 pin and 8 pin and I assumed both would be needed, but I gave it a shot and just having the 8 pin was fine. But now I wonder if just having the 4 pin would also have been fine. The damn manual doesn't have a thing to say about it being okay to just use one of them, but being an electrical engineer I have to assume they're both tied to the same rail on the board, so I'm just gaining a bit more copper to lower the voltage drop if I were to connect a 4 pin as well, and the system seems perfectly stable, so perhaps they included the second connector to help with overclocking. I dunno.

Anyway, final tally including the Rift without a third sensor was $1,339.

And if you're wondering why I didn't go with AMD, well, I could have but when I priced it out, I wasn't actually going to save that much. And the Intel seemed like it would perform better with both games and applications and would just be less likely to have any issues like the Vive and its wireless solution do with AMD processors.

Part of the reason the AMD was not much cheaper is the same MSI motherboard would have been more expensive as an AMD variant and while the AMD included a cooler, the Cooler Master one was only $30 and had a bigger fan which meant it would likely be quieter. Though the AMD does run at a lower wattage, so it could be a toss up. All I know is my old PC sounded like a jet engine when I started doing any heavy lifting with 3D graphics, and it was still kinda noisy otherwise, but now its super quiet and even when running 3D apps that MSI card which I specifically chose because it's one of the quietest, was indeed really quiet.

Speaking of the 1070, my god that is a monster of a card! I barely fit it in my case. And my case is a full size tower. But it has extra 3.5" bays down the bottom where I have my hard drives installed and I had to move them down some more to get it to fit and it only barely slid in behind the metal frame of the drive bay.

Only other thing to mention is while I had no problem fitting my two ram sticks on the motherboard, that Cooler Master cooler's fan would probably collide with one of the ram sticks if I were to install four in there. I think the fan can slide up and down on the cooler though, so perhaps as long as you have low profile ram, you could slide it up a smidge or two to make it fit. Something to consider if you think you may eventually want 32 or 64GB of ram.

u/JoseChovi · 2 pointsr/buildapc

My plan is gaming and programe in Java, Python ... But i cant waste more than 300€ in a CPU right now.

Windows 8, $90.26
Corsair 430W, $40 ($20 MIR)
Corsair 200r, $50 ($10 MIR)
CM Hyper 212 Evo, $35.96

Rest should go into speakers mouse keyboard.
if you need a monitor that's gonna be like an extra 120
If you could however chauk up a little bit more money I would go for a bigger PSU
The current one is fine, but its safer to go overkill on PSU than it is to hover somewhat above.

u/Austyx · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'd like the opinion of my peers here:

I'm upgrading the CPU cooler from the stock cooler so I can take advantage of my i5-7500K (I can't find the K anywhere, but I'm 99% sure it is) and actually overclock the thing so I can actually get 60fps on Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I only get about 45-60fps in that game. I've never overclocked before, so that will be a journey in it of itself.

It's between the Hyper 212 Evo and the be quiet! Dark Rock 4. I have them both up in tabs and am trying to decide. I imagine they run comparably, but the Dark Rock 4 matches my mostly black with some white build better. The Dark Rock 4 is also the recommended cooler by Tom's Hardware, which I like to use as a resource.

I also looked at the Cooler Master MasterAir MA410M but that might be too much RGB for me. Only RGB thing in my build is on my motherboard and it's just like a pulsating red light.

A true first world problem deciding if an all-black cooler is worth an extra $50. But what do you think?

Also, here's the build otherwise:

https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-RR-212E-20PK-R2-Direct-Contact/dp/B005O65JXI something like that on a budget. Noctua's are good for more $.

XFR and PBO are ryzen 2 features that auto-overclock your cpu based on thermal sensors.

From posts here, dialing in manual overclocks and voltages will rarely offer much higher performance than turning those on with a good cooler.

Well im not that expert but the case you selected i think it comes with a frontal intake fan and another fan as exhaust on the back, which is the same as my Corsair Carbide 300R series, and trust me with only 2 fans with the case you will have a decent airflow, considering the videocard has its own and also CPU which it really depends on what you want, but take a look at this one for your CPU (if you dont want liquid cooling), COOLER MASTER EVO HYPER 212!

But for the PSU i bought a Corsair 800gs one and let me tell you its reliable, take a look at this one Corsair CXM 750W! , if anything else i can help with let me know.

UPDATE: The version on the pcpartpicker was SEMI MODULAR not non modular (which comes with all cables attached to it), CX 750W CORSAIR NON MODULAR!

u/bfp1104 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Well, A GPU would be a good investment, but I don't think you'll need that considering what you said was just programming and stuff. If you got into the realm of more intense stuff, like video editing or 3D CAD, then A GPU would be needed. I would recommend a CPU cooler (are those temps in Celsius for Fahrenheit?). You don't really need the liquid cooler (It's more money for more cooling, primarily for high-intensity gaming). the Cooler Master 212 EVO will get you by, along with some Arctic Silver 5. But.......Your darn case. This one should fit though

u/wax2142 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

From the same place you buy your computer hardware of course. Anyways, you'll want a cooler that supports LGA 1151, which most do these days anyways.

Then you get to decide it you want an air cooler or a radiator cooler. here are a few for you to look at for reference:

Looks good to me, only thing missing is an SSD, they can be had dirt cheap now and shouldn't be overlooked even in a budget build. Here is a great option with free shipping, another larger option with free shipping.

The 7700K and Kaby Lake friends should be released around the end of this year, you may find yourself having to upgrade sooner than later before the 6700K goes out of stock. I would reconsider putting the money for the 6500 towards the 6700K now unless the budget is super tight, in which case I would go i3 6100 since you are planning on upgrading anyway. 6700K cheapest with free shipping I could find. I believe you also get another $5 off when signing up a new account. Keep in mind the 6700K doesn't come with a cooler, so a 212 EVO would be a solid option.

You could save some money on the case as well, here are some sale options. Make sure what you get is full atx compatible.

u/brodiegeek · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Hey OP! To answer your question, that will be one hell of a PC. I have a question though, are you using a stock cooler on your i5-4690? I honestly wouldn't recommend it. If you're going air cooling, go with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. If you are going with liquid cooling, I would go with the Kraken X31.

u/jjrmm7 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

It does not hurt to have one. Extends harware life span and if you ever consider pushing extra FPS by overclocking, you'll have it already:

This is the best budget cooler but it is too tall for many older cases. Something like this will do the job and the price is right.

u/MiamiFFA · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I would recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. This is a very good cpu cooler and is reasonably quiet. https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI

Edit: What is your current cpu cooler?

u/cleesus · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Let me first say im not an expert in Air coolers for cpus, I have always used All in one(AIO) water coolers. AIO are definitely more expensive, but easier to install, have better cooling ability, but can be louder than Air coolers.

Air coolers tend to have better price/performance and are cheaper but tend to be harder to install.

These two below are two of the most popular due to price/performance so they are worth looking at on the AUS side of things to.

https://www.amazon.com/CRYORIG-Tower-Cooler-Intel-CPUs/dp/B00S7YA5FQ
https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI

This article also has some good info on both types and good suggestions at different price points
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-cpu-coolers,4181.html

The only other thing would be to try and get a EVGA G series psu or a Seasonic G series(What i have, caught it on sale tho). If you cant find one of them Corsair makes some cool ones too. You want to get a Bronze 80 rated PSU at the very least. They are one of the most important parts of the pc and one going bad can cause damage or a lot of instability once your gpu/cpu starts kicking in.

Im not familar with the cases you choose but its important to look at the manufacturers website of the case to see how much clearance each case provides for air coolers since they can be big as hell.

That all being said I think the UMART build is the best out of the three with the PC CASE GEAR coming in second.

The UMART is only $100 AUS more than the others according to the image but with that build you get better performance with the ability to overclock later down the line if you need more power eventually.
Plus you get slightly faster ram so overall it looks better.

Remember that you can upgrade to a better case, GPU or cpu fan etc down the line if you outgrow your current selection but the CPU/PSU, and Motherboard will be fine for a lot of years so its worth spending a little more on them now.

Also sheesh man those AUS prices are no joke, that 470 would only be around $160-180 in the states

u/Kurosaku · 2 pointsr/techsupport

Do you have stock cooler/radiator? is so I would look into upgrading. This one is good one Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for budget and best on market right now. As for thermal paster Here is a pretty good one ARCTIC MX-4 Thermal Compound Paste

The thermal paste goes on top of your CPU when you fix your radiator/cooler, here is a good video on how, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2MEAnZ3swQ

u/WorstDariusEUW · 1 pointr/buildapc

The CPU should be fine, as seen on this video: http://youtu.be/vMqaQESngh0
..the cpu can run some intensive games. Allthough if you do want a serius upgrade, I can recomend the I5-3770K, for 335$, this cpu will max out anything you throw at it, not only that, but the K on it means it is unlocked, so you can overclock it to higher speeds.

I5-3770K on Amazon: http://amzn.com/B007SZ0EOW

Also what I forgot in the build, was a cooler for the CPU, the most efficent cpu out there is very cheap and cools extremely well, it's called Hyper 212 EVO and is only 35$. This cooler will be very usefull when you get into overclocking, because it will keep it at around 70 degrees even when you have it turned up high.

Hyper 212 EVO on Amazon: http://amzn.com/B005O65JXI

Also, I forgot to mention, the GPU I wrote is really really strong and can max out anything at 1080p, except maybe ridiculous games like Crysis 3.

u/Filthschwein · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

No problem. If you upgrade to a 1050 or 1060, you’ll probably be good for about 2 more years.

If you didn’t buy a fan, then yes, you have the stock fan. You could spend $30 ($20 after $10 rebate) on a Cooler Master like this from Amazon. Or (and I highly recommend) an AIO (All In One) cooler along the lines of NZXT’s Kraken. They’re cheaper ones out there. But, be wary of what you buy. What I do know for fact is NZXT stands by their product and if their product fails to keep your cpu cool, they will replace your cpu. A friend of mine works at Micro Center and he’s told me about some of his customers having good customer service with NZXT. Corsair is another good company for AIO’s.

Also, the fan and/or the AIO will be usable on your next pc. You just might need to buy a $5 bracket.

Imo, don’t worry about the CPU. It’s still a good cpu. Invest in a proper fan.. save the money for now and get the cooler master and a 1060. You’ll be able to recycle that fan (or AIO if you go that route) into your next build.

Edit: only get the AIO if you plan on trying to get the max over clock you can and still plan on building a new pc in a couple years. Otherwise, it would be a waste.

I was curious though if you had the time to verify a few things for me. I couldn't find a few of the things you had suggested so I checked on some other things... • I need an s/pdif optical for my speakers. Should I get a pcie card or external usb?

  • How will I know if the video card hangs over the spare pcie slot?

  • WiFi - USB vs Pcie?

If you're definitely looking for an upgrade, check out the FX-9590 which is the top end AMD processor currently, which fits your motherboard socket. It's 200 bucks, plus if it gets hot with your current CPU cooler, you can throw in a cheap 212 Evo. Your bottleneck right now is your CPU and upgrading it will solve your fps drop problems not just in Fallout 4 but in all games.

If I were you, I'd probably save a bit more money and build a new system minus the graphics card (I'd reuse the 1060), with the new AMD Ryzen CPUs which are about the same price but much more better than the FX-series CPUs. PM me if you have any question about PC building and cheers.

If the case says 12.6 then it should be fine, sometimes you can remove drive bays from the front to make extra room. Last time I purchased my 3770k, I called best buy, got them to price match microcenter, and ship it to me, so I'm going to see if I can do the same thing again, and have them price match amazon's price on the mobo as well so I can just get it all sent at once.

All that aside, what CPU cooler are you looking at, given that the 9700k doesn't come with one? I've always had them come with the CPU so never had to shop for them before...

Edit: Also looks like I'll have to upgrade my RAM as DDR3 isn't compatible. When it comes to RAM I've always just gone with corsair, but does brand really matter? Or is RAM just RAM?

You should check the prices at launch though, some of the better coolers are quite inexpensive.

I don't OC, but my wife's FX 6300 would overheat playing some games (stock settings), so I bought a new cooler for ~$35 that significantly cut core temps and also had a quieter fan (much larger than stock) and moved so much air I actually took another fan out of the case.

If the spread between OEM and retail versions of the same chip is fairly close to a quality aftermarket cooler, I recommend getting the aftermarket cooler even if you're not planning to OC. My computer is still on a stock cooler (Phenom II x4) and it's fairly loud, but I haven't had a crash so I haven't bothered upgrading. I'll likely buy the OEM chip with a better aftermarket cooler OOTB this time around though.

u/Pro511 · 1 pointr/buildapc

As for what you need, well the Mobo is ok, nothing wrong with it, just check to make sure the bios is ready for 2400g (ask the seller), or you will have to wait to get a boot CPU from AMD and that takes time or money.

Otherwise check out the MX500 SSDs or it will run very slow (if you get a HDD that is).

Get a dual channel kit 2x4GB ram at least 2666MHz example:

https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Signature-2666MHz-PC4-21300-Heatshield/dp/B07BRYVFKL/ref=sr_1_20?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1525747871&sr=1-20&keywords=Ddr4+8GB+kit&refinements=p_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A677427011

The cooler that comes with the 2400G is ok if you do not do heavy OC. If you do, then get something like a Cooler Master 212 or Cryorig H7 (tho I suggest to check if there are any out the box compatible coolers, since a lot need to order the mounts for AM4).

Compatible example:

https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-RR-212E-20PK-R2-Direct-Contact/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1525748103&sr=1-3&keywords=AM4+cooler

While I would personally not pick that PSU (the Evga and bequiet are better), it will do the job.

u/howthisdicktaste · 1 pointr/buildapc

I have no clue what to look for in a good cooler (ie how I would know if it will be better than the one the cpu came with). I assume I look at the RPM of the fan and the decibel levels?

I may need to know what case you have or your budget for me to recommend because of the dimension, but in general you may pick one from Noctua or Be Quiet if you want quiet cooler.
Or best choice for budget cooling Hyper 212 EVO. Not the quietest but you can add additional fan to reduce the noise and it comes with additional clips.

If I am overclocking an i5 4690k on an asrock killer board should I get a cm hyper 212 evo or a cm seidon? Would air or water be better here? I am not so worried about price but rather a good aftermarket cooler. I am not willing to pay more than $50 for cooling. My case would be able to fit the 212. Also, if I put in high profile RAM in the slots furthest away from the cpu, the outermost set, would I be able to fit the 212 or would i need to get low profile RAM?

u/Dart06 · 1 pointr/buildapc

OP hinted he wants to game on a 144hz monitor so more CPU grunt will be really beneficial in a lot of games. I think his CPU (that's in that linked build) will bottleneck on a good number of games at 144hz, especially newer games with more/better AI. Of course it also really depends on the games OP wants to play.

I have a 780ti for my 120hz monitors and would easily be bottlenecked by my 2500k in a lot of instances if I didn't overclock it. I wouldn't recommend a processor that's bought now for a similar purpose to be weaker than what I have at the moment (which is actually almost 4 years old now, how time flies).

OP for the most part people in this sub will give you ideas on what you should and shouldn't include for a lot of reasons. Your current build is fine I would just change your motherboard (unless you are fine with micro ATX in a mid tower case), CPU and potentially your power supply. Everything else is pretty much good to go.

At a minimum I would (if I were you) bump up to this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KPRWB9G/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1425332349&sr=8-2&keywords=4670k&dpPl=1&dpID=51SuhUev8DL&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SY200_QL40

http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI

Sure it'll increase your cost by a little but you would be grateful for it in the long run.

I have a stock cooler on my AMD 8350 and I want to replace the cooler/fan/whatever might be on top of the CPU.

What's the difference between this and this? Which one should I get? help pls

u/RojoNinja · 1 pointr/techsupport

Yikes, that's pretty high, I'd definitely try replacing the cooler and use some good thermal paste. I recommend http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ and http://www.amazon.com/Arctic-Silver-Thermal-Compound-Grams/dp/B000OGX5AM/

u/Spoonula · 1 pointr/TriCitiesWA

It's this heatsink. For my particular motherboard, I have to lift the motherboard to install the mounting bracket.

I agree, it should be something that's fairly easy and routine, and definitely shouldn't cost several hundred dollars to do. I'll give the place on Clearwater a call here in a bit, thank you so much for the suggestion!

u/Hanjohnbono · 1 pointr/buildapc

I recommend switching your HDD to this Hardrive. A lot cheaper for the same amount of memory and rpm. Also if you are going to buy another GeForce GPU in the near future, then I recommend you buy a motherboard than can support SLI and hold multiple GPUs. Then for operating system, go with Windows 8, because of the bootup times and if you ever get an SSD, Windows 8 is faster with SSDs. Power Supply is fine, you can go with a 600W, but 650W is enough for your build. Also you really don't need a CPU Cooler because you can't overclock the i5-3350P (From what I read you cannot) but you can use the normal turbo boost from intel, but a CPU Cooler is not needed because the stock fan can handle it. If you are getting a CPU Cooler then get this one

u/XXLpeanuts · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Fair enough I waited the longest possible time before finally deciding it was nessessary too. Here though you may get it cheaper elsewhere:

Water cooling isn't that easy to install and costs more, i suggest you an air cooler for 30$ like Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005O65JXI

It will keep that CPU bellow 60°C during gaming even in summer.

u/RoadRunnr697 · 1 pointr/techsupport

My best recommendation is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, according to the manufacturer of your case and the manufacturer of the cooler it will fit just fine inside your case.
It has better cooling capabilities than the Noctua and it's also cheaper. Hope this helps you out and good luck!

Everything seems good unless you're OCing. In that case you might want to opt in for a fan such as the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for just over 30$. It is by far the bets cooler for the money and is pretty quiet but effective.

u/GODZiGGA · 1 pointr/buildapc

You are buying an AMD mobo with an Intel processor which won't work. You need something like this which comes with 4 GB of RAM right now which means you only need to purchase another 4 GB to get your 8.

You might want to look into an after market cooler like this, but you could probably do without.

u/SirBananas · 1 pointr/buildapc

The best cooler for performance/price right now is a CM Evo 212 and it's only $30 USD more.

u/mcatrage · 1 pointr/buildapc

Do you have any need for a full size case? if you do not plan on going SLI you really don't. Plus that case is expensive. Spend ~$90 for a mid-size. Say the NZXT Phantom 410, Corsair 300r, 400r, 500r, or Fractal R4.

For the amount you are spending on the air cooler you should get what is considered the best air cooler. LINK Note it is huge.

Do you plan on going for a incredibly high overclock? Money might be better spent getting the CM EVO and saving yourself $50. LINK

I think ill wait until I get my heatsink before I start overclocking --
What temp ranges are ok? Does uping or lowering voltage contribute to increase/decrease in temp?
When I oc, can I just leave it overclocked or do I have to turn it on and off. I assume it depends on how much your temps fluctuate over a period of time. Any way to monitor this?

Is the goal of of successful OCing to have the highest GHz with the lowest voltage? Is 1.325 considered high or low (what are the general ranges)

Sorry for the oral diareha, im just super curious.
Thanks for the help =D

4 year old CPU fan won't start. It would kind of budge and I could give it a shove to get it going, but now it sits still for a few minutes before slightly wiggling and I can't manually start it any more. Smart Fan is disabled, I don't have any other fan headers to test it out on. I checked if anything was blocking the fan, but I could easily rotate it without hitting anything. Cleaned with air just in case.

What's my next step? I'm not sure if the motherboard or the fan is at fault, but would this be a time to order a new fan?

u/kaikid · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yeah. Maybe I'm not understanding the difference between the two, but it looks like this is the same cpu cooler for much cheaper.

EDIT: Even if it is different, it'll still get the job done and be much quieter than stock. It looks like it is smaller, I think.

u/Minzoik · 1 pointr/buildapc

Well, you didn't give us a price. And I don't know..that MSI or the ASUS Z170 are pretty nicely priced. Like I said with the MSI Gaming series motherboards, you just press the OC genie and it'll do everything for you. An aftermarket shouldn't cost you more than 20-30 dollars.

Depending on what you do, you could even just opt for a i5 versus the i7 and that should shave about $100 off the CPU price.

My first thoughts are:

  • Did you make sure to clean off the CPU well with a high % isopropyl alcohol and what did you use to wipe off the old paste? Usually Microfiber towels, toilet paper or q-tips work well enough.
  • What method did you use to apply the paste? The "pea-method", the spread method, or an X?
  • Did you make sure the cooler was fastened down tight enough?

If you have done these things, either way, I'd recommend trying to reapply the paste and make sure you are using the right amount. If you get the same results again, then I'd recommend getting an aftermarket cooler. There is a very good chance that the cooler is the problem. Many people use the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO because of the awesome price/performance you can get with it. This would be the best next step to solving your issues. Just make sure your case has enough room for it first.

Most AIO are going to be fine and last awhile.

Though this (Hyper 212 Evo):

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B005O65JXI/?tag=pcp0f-20

Is the most popular and well-loved cooling option of all time, and probably gives you the most bang for your buck. You'll always be able to squeeze out more cooling with liquid, though, just based on its heat capacity.

I'm sort of surprised that the AIOs don't seem to be any cheaper than when I picked mine up ~3 years ago.

u/Koils_ · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Depends. From what I can see here I'd say that a Hyper 212 Evo would be much better than the stock, although it doesn't necessarily look the prettiest. From what I know about the Fractal R4 you could also put in a Corsair H100i V2 for only about $110 more than stock.

u/Benny0 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I overclock my CPU a small, small amount, and am looking into buying a cooler perhaps if I buy a bigger case, just because I do enjoy overclocking a lot, and I have quite a bit of fun benchmarking my pc.

As for storage, I'm running a 300 GB and 700 GB HD, the 300 with a windows install on it, and the 700 with a 300GB partition for storage and a 400GB partition for linux. Buying a SSD is one of the thigns on my list, but boot times aren't a huge deal to me, so it's not the most urgent thing ever.

I suppose, in the end, I'm also looking into recommendations for coolers, then. I'm definitely not going to bother with liquid cooling; that's a waste of time for somebody like me. I was looking into http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1344290827&sr=1-1&keywords=cooler+master+212+EVO, I had seen reviews claiming 20 degree temperature drops, which seems insane to me, but I mean, getting a $30 cooler really couldn't hurt.

The 212 evo has enough room and you can put a second fan on it so you have the front fan pulling fresh air from your front intake fans and the second fan set up to pull hot air away from the cooler and towards your rear exhaust fan.

u/pcathey · 1 pointr/pcgaming

It would, the socket type you've got for the motherboard and CPU is called "lga1151" so you're looking for one that fits that socket type. However I couldn't speak to that specific one. I would definitely suggest going with a reputable CPU cooler since that's basically the brain of the whole operation. The cooler it is the better everything works.

I haven't owned one, but the cooler master hyper 212 Evo is respectable from everything I've read and has a good price point.

It should be able to cool about the same or more than the stock cooler, but the main reason of noise is because the fan is so small so you won't see much of an improvement with that one.

u/srsynapse · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

My i5-2500K has a Hyper 212 EVO on it inside of a HAF X case with a few extra aftermarket fans throughout. My Radeon HD 7970 is the dual dissipation edition with better thermal paste applied.

The Sandy Bridge series is well known for being fantastic for overclocking which is why people were getting them even with the newer chips out. You can just keep pushing them, even on air.

u/x86-JD · 1 pointr/techsupport

The maximum TDP of the Cooler Master 212 is 180W. That means it can only effectively cool a processor of up-to 180W. The FX-9590 is a 220W processor; your heatsink simply can't keep up with it. I would suggest something like the Corsair H100i.

Both CPUs have the same TDP, I would expect the same temp from both. I have the 7700k, and am using the Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212, it stays well within optimal operating range. It's also cheaper than the one you picked out.

u/fallingemprire · 1 pointr/buildapc

A Hyper 212 Evo should do the trick.

u/Flagauster · 1 pointr/buildapc

Personally, I wouldn't recommend a water cooler unless you really need it. If you aren't doing serious overclocking, an air cooler will work just find, with a lot less hassle and troubleshooting. Just a lot easier with an air cooler, imo, so don't get water cooling unless you need it. The Hyper 212 is a great cooler that i recommend.

u/GUI_VB_IP_Tracker · 1 pointr/dragonage

Yep, video card is the priority for upgrade. Your CPU is a relatively modern quad-core CPU running at least 3 GHz and you have plenty of RAM, so both should be fine.

Even if it wasn't, a modern replacement requires a new motherboard and new RAM, so it'll get expensive real quick. Instead, I would instead look into a better air-cooler or water cooler and overclock it.

Again, the video card is the priority.

u/randomstudman · 1 pointr/buildapc

unless you plan on adding another 8GB later I would get an 8GB ram kit rather than just a single chip you get about a 5-12% gain in performance

I would reccomend scrapping the 60 dollar air cooler and getting this
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Series-Edition-Liquid-CW-9060010-WW/dp/B009VV56TY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1419100398&sr=8-7&keywords=cooler+master+TX3

now as for video cards SLI is way over hyped there are many games that wont use it trust me I tired an SLI setup its not that great so if your paying that much for a video card get a GeForce GTX 980

Edit: excuse me I ment GeForce GTX 970 not 980

u/Sajen006 · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you have got the extra money to spend, get the i5, since many games, today at least, doesn't use more than 4 cores, rarely even more than 2 cores. Thus, they benefit from fewer, stronger cores, which is what the i5 offers. However, if you are on a bit of a budget, you could go for the FX-6300. The FX is still a good processor, but in some games, it may bottleneck you quite a bit.
If I may add another option, you could get an Intel Pentium G3258 with a Z97 board. If you overclock the Pentium, it matches even a i7-4790K in games, and that's for a fraction of the price!

Intel Core i7 4790K & Pentium G3258 "Anniversary …: http://youtu.be/evXpqpNhu_Y

This setup also allows you to upgrade to an i5-4XXX or even an i7-4XXX in the future, if your performance starts to fall off.
For this I would recommend an aftermarket cooler, to get the most out of your overclock. If aesthetics doesn't matter much or if you like the look of a big heatsink on your CPU, I would say go for the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, which is on sale on Amazon right now for $32.99 http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI

I thought I explained that in the album. If I wasn't clear enough I'll just say it here.

Yeah 70's is in the high range but I'm skeptical it'd cause a hard reboot. Its hard to go wrong with a 212 EVO for your cooling needs if your concerned about its temps, only 35$.

I think your issue is probably gpu/psu related. see if your gpu temps spike high enough to cause issues. Or if you really want to put your teeth to the grindstone get a kill a watt meter and see what your psu is pulling. Hope you are able to resolve your issues!

u/CasualPancake · 1 pointr/buildapc

Definitely go aftermarket on the CPU cooler. Most stock CPU coolers perform poorly and are generally pretty loud. Highly recommend the Hyper 212 Evo (https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-RR-212E-20PK-R2-120mm/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493347861&sr=8-1&keywords=hyper+212+evo) Only $25 on amazon and it works great for the price. Only downside is that installation is a bit tricky, and the manual included is no help. Just watch a Youtube tutorial or two and you'll be fine.

.
I also found this Be Quiet Cooler on newegg.

And the Hyper 212 Evo as another cheap options.
https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-RR-212E-20PK-R2-120mm/dp/B005O65JXI

Right now my i7-4790k hovers at 32c (sometimes jumping to 37c) at idle and up to 81c during gaming. I'm not sure if I should throw down the extra $25 for the 190w, go toward the between for the 180w, or go cheap on the $25 Evo. From what store do you intend to buy? Be 'careful' with Cooler Master Hyper 212 because the most version in Europe are EU version that have a weaker fan. The model similar from US is RR-212E-20PK-R2 you can find it on amazon.co.uk but the most EU version are RR-212E-16PK-R1 which have a lower rpm (1800rpm max) and the airflow around 20CFM lower. I am also making a build for myself and I think I will get the EU version because I don't have the other option.

Also 16GB of RAM will suffice, you don't need 32GB.

u/Mario_119 · 1 pointr/cemu

I've compiled all the parts I recommend in a PCPartPicker list below for your convenience. Now, allow me to go into a bit more detail. I didn't include a cooler because the Ryzen 5 2600 comes with a rather good cooler in the box for stock operation and modest overclocking. If you want something with a bit more power, you can't go wrong with the [Hyper 212 EVO](Cooler Master Hyper RR-212E-20PK-R2 LED CPU Cooler with PWM Fan, Four Direct Contact Heat Pipes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.8VKBb7PKEQBB). You mentioned you were planning on purchasing a GTX 1070 as well, so I included that in the list as well.

As for Ryzen and emulation, Intel does tend to be slightly better with emulation due to having faster single thread performance, but the advantage is slim. Emulators are beginning to to take advantage of more threads as of late, and that's where Ryzen excels. Take CEMU and RPCS3 as examples. While Intel is a bit faster in Cemu, Ryzen actually outperforms their chips in RPCS3. With every said, Ryzen is just fine for emulation. Price/performance wise, AMD reigns surpeme.

Looks good! You don't have a CPU cooler in there though. With this build I highly suggest an aftermarket cooler like this. By the way.. that ram BETTER be blue :) gotta matchy matchy. Happy shopping!

u/fishymamba · 1 pointr/buildapc

Same as the other, but double the capacity. IMO you will definitely want to get the 2TB. As a professional, I am guessing you go through a large amount of files and a 1TB might not be enough in the long run. Might as well spend $17 more and get a drive with double the capacity.

With this setup, you will have no redundancy. If your hard drive fails, you will probably lose all data on it. I recommend you get 2 hard drives and run them in RAID 1(Quick explanation of RAID 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE7Bfw9lFfs&feature=youtu.be&t=57s)

Another way is to backup all your important data using a cloud service. This might get expensive depending on the service.

Everything else looks great on the build. The CPU cooler is OK, I prefer installing standard heatsinks in PCs with users who have limited knowledge, but the H100 will be fine. If you want to save money money, a $35 Hyper 212 will do just fine for your application: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417043389&sr=8-1&keywords=hyper+212

This is the Evo 212 btw:

https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-RR-212E-20PK-R2-120mm/dp/B005O65JXI

It's a fairly affordable cooler, it's air cooled, so no liquid, and it's quite popular for being efficient and affordable.

u/benbrockn · 1 pointr/buildapc

EDITED:

Save $110 by getting a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo instead of the Liquid Cooler. I saw a few youtube benchmarks (comparing the 212 Evo to the h100i) that the 212 Evo only lags behind the liquid cooler by 1*C. If you don't want to use the stock CM fan on the 212 Evo, just buy one Corsair SP120 for $13 on Amazon, and you'll still save $97. Liquid cooling is great until it leaks all over your $3000 setup Google-> h100i leaks (and other models).

....
You also wouldn't need the Thermal Compound if you buy the 212 Evo siince Cooler Master ships you some (Saves $6)

....
Also save $420 and get the EVGA GTX 1080 Ti instead of the Titan Xp. EVGA is the best brand for NVidia cards.

....
You would save a total of ~$536 and have extremely similar performance (basically unnoticeable).

The Noctua NH-D15 is also a very good choice.

Here is a spreadsheet

u/ectopilot · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I use a few of these Noctua fans, super quiet and great airflow. Not purple or black though.

For my CPU, I've had this Cooler Master for a long time. Affordable, quiet, and works great.

u/Heavyrage1 · 1 pointr/buildapc

nope, as long as you have decent airflow in your case you'll be good to moderately oc your stuff. your gpu shoud have no problems. cpu on the other hand if you have a stock cooler may need a cooler upgrade to do well but those can be got cheap. https://www.amazon.ca/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI

Just use HWMonitor (dl and install it) to monitor your temps and you'll be fine. For cpu overclocking if you aren't comfortable using the bios you can download intel XTU and do it from inside windows.

If you want to get the max oc on your cpu you might want some kind of cooler like the H100i but that's not necessary.

u/techietalkonline1 · 1 pointr/techsupport

Probably your CPU. Have you considered replacing the cooler? The CPU cooler for the AMD FX series CPUs is not very good. It generates a lot of noise and doesn't cool the CPU very well. I suggest something like the this:https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486646840&sr=8-1&keywords=cooler+master+212+evo

Also make sure you have proper airflow through your case. You said you have one fan, but you may want to put a few more in. Make sure the case is pulling air in through the front and pushing it out the top and back.

u/whatdidshedo · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

212 EVO is actuially more than enough for most builds and is 30 bucks or less and great performance to price ratio, Noctua you want is little better but not twice the price for 10 celsius cooler

Ok, if the 2600X will easily outperform the 2600 at stock settings, but the 2600 keeps up when OC'd, can you use the stock CPU fan that comes with the 2600 to OC? I've heard it's a bit underpowered for that.

Totally worth the money, it is a little bit older of hardware, but with a more modern graphics card you could play all modern games at high settings at 1080P. I'd buy it, take the whole thing apart, blow out any dust, clean it up, apply more thermal paste on the CPU and put on a new CPU cooler. AMD is known for heat issues so I'd probably get a better aftermarket cooler, the coolermaster hyper 212 is one of the highest rated ones and it's only $30 https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-RR-212E-20PK-R2-Direct-Contact/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_22_sspa?keywords=cpu+cooler&qid=1550607885&s=gateway&sr=8-22-spons&psc=1.

Please reply directly to my comment in the future so I'll get a notification.

You might have just messed up the thermal paste application, as the fans you currently have should be doing a much better job than they are. Stock coolers are never great, and I'm a big fan of the 212 evo which gets me to 4 GHz (up from 3.4 GHz) on stock voltages and 52C on load (AMD 965).

This is not being caused by any other component, it is just bad cooling.

I recommend AS5 for your thermal paste, as you probably don't have any on hand with the stock sink. You can just use isopropyl alcohol to remove the old paste.

u/skftw · 1 pointr/htpc

This is my go to for a full size chassis: https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-RR-212E-20PK-R2-120mm/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1494563000&sr=1-1&keywords=coolermaster+212

It's one of the cheaper large coolers you can find, but its very quiet. Even with the fan at only a few hundred RPM the CPU stays nice and cool. It's noisier than some when the fan really spools up but that doesn't happen often. Really only if I'm encoding video or some other particularly strenuous task.

yup, looks like a hyper 212 evo

source: been using this beast of a cooler since '11. dirt cheap, fits most boards, comes with a backplate. the only downside is that its fan isnt very durable. mine failed after just 4 years. i do live in a very dusty area with large seasonal variations. my cooler has quite a bit of rust/corrosion on it. i used to clean it out atleast once a year but gave up a couple of years back.

Following the "modesty is best policy" principles I would recommend a few things here:

  • Go with the really good main monitor, looks like you got the 27 inch 1440p 144hz Acer. (This is freesync btw. I recommend the Dell S2716DGR for the G-Sync - AMD vs Nvidia) and pick up a 1080p side monitor.

  • Ditch the liquid cooling. It's an unnecessary hassle for anyone other than PC enthusiasts in the OC communities. A Cooler Master or the Noctua (if you have enough room in your case.) Both will provide ample cooling and your CPU will last just as long as with a liquid cooling kit.

  • In combo with the above, my favorite case so far (after 4 PC builds for myself and family) is the Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube. Lots of room for cables in the back and gives your components a nice display with LOTS of airflow.

  • I would, however, recommend going to an M.2 SSD, which is significantly faster than a standard SSD. Not much of a price jump there.

I see others have spoken about overclocking your CPU and such already. My opinion is to skip overclocking. For the standard gamer wanting a quality experience that is getting a top of the line CPU, there's zero need to OC. I went with the i7-7700 non 'k' version and have been plenty happy. It saved some money too.

Keep in mind your peripherals. Usually those are overlooked when upgrading your PC, but maybe it's time for a new mouse/keyboard, new controller, headphones, etc.

Also if you're dad is giving you a budget, is he giving you the money to spend, or buying the stuff for you? If you don't get the remaining money from $3k, maybe you should include those things now instead of later.
u/snuggy4life · 1 pointr/PcBuild

You might just try the built in cooler and only upgrade if it’s throttling/causing you performance issues.

Depending on where you are, I suggest scoping out a cheap used 1080P 22in+ monitor on Craigslist or your equivalent, maybe even a refurb for 90 max. (I recently picked up a 24in 1080p TN panel Dell monitor for 40$, so it's possible.)

Here is the CM Hyper Evo 212 for $24.99 after rebate.
If not then you can get it on amazon for $29.99

I would pickup a 180GB+ SSD for an on sale price when it comes up. (Can't get lucky like me, getting a 120GB for $40 during a pricing mistake months ago).

u/davidfg4 · 1 pointr/buildapc
u/zeldoot · 1 pointr/buildapc

honestly, I'm assuming your CPU is an i7-9xx, which can still hold their own to this day. If you're feeling budget conscience, you can take off the current heat sink (it looks like the stock fan from intel), use 100% acetone + coffee filters to softly rub off the old thermal paste. then you can buy a new heatsink for for $30 http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406572991&sr=8-1&keywords=hyper+212+evo

this one's solid, and is compatible with your processor's LGA 1366 socket (NOTE PLEASE VERIFY THIS WITH YOUR CPU'S SOCKET as i'm not 100% sure what CPU you have)

I believe the cooler comes with its own thermal paste. Just put a pea size drop on the cpu before putting on the heatsink. let us know if you have any additional questions!

u/KoSoVaR · 1 pointr/buildapc

Ok - no problem. This is what I recommend you do. Buy this thing - it comes with some thermal paste. If it doesn't solve your problems, use the amazing Amazon 30 day money back guarentee (with labels provided from them) to return it.

There's plenty of guides on how to install these things, but they're pretty painless unless you have to use a back plate, which I'm not sure of off the top of my head.

Or - instead of buying a new heatsink, you can buy some thermal paste and just remove your existing and repaste it.

Options here that you need to try before dishing out money.

Or, if you really.. just want to upgrade and spend some money, we can all drool a little bit and help you pick some parts.

u/dman77777 · 1 pointr/buildapc

First things first: a liquid cooler will in no way reduce the heat in your room. the heat is coming from the CPU and the GPU for the most part. the cooler is just drawing that heat out of the CPU/ GPU, and getting it out of your case. The type of cooler you have is not going to affect the amount of heat generated and expelled into your room. ( A more efficient CPU/ GPU will reduce overall heat production.... think RX480 / gtx1070..these will reduce heat in your room vs the older GPUs)
By "air cooler" I just mean a CPU cooler that is not liquid cooled.
Good non-liquid CPU coolers are very efficient, will be MORE than capable of keeping you CPU cool, and generally make less noise than a liquid cooler. Liquid coolers are very niche, and are really only needed if you are overclocking to the MAX and creating a hell of a lot of extra heat in your CPU. For the most part people choose liquid coolers because they look cool.... or sometimes because they plan on stressing their system to the max.

The go-to cooler for most people is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. This guy just works, and you wont need anything more expensive: 4.5 stars with 5500 reviews on Amazon:

My CPU hit 85-90C while running ARK prior. Now runs between 30-35C. An obvious, but important note, make sure all your fans are pushing air the same direction.

Edit: Pretty inexpensive upgrade ($30). Cooler Master. Large unit, almost did not fit in my case. Not a difficult installation either, I just watched a couple YouTube videos.

Alright to get that much mineral oil your going to need to go to a vets office. It turns out that mineral oil doubles as horse laxative. It will cost about $20 per gallon. As for a mother board you will be forced to use a micro-ATX board as ATX boards are exactly 12 in on the longest side. As for storage you will have to use an ssd if inside the oil however for a hard drive you can have a SATA pass through seen here you also may need a separate power supply for the fans on the radiators that would have its own fan controller. As for a mouse and keyboard wireless is the easiest answer. vertical CPU coolers are also recommended but not required. here. As for other parts their are no more requirements other than the fact that you can't have a gpu longer than 300mm

I think you're being scammed. That's just a stock cooler that usually comes free with non-K Intel CPUs. You won't be able to overclock with it. Buy a third party cpu cooler like this one.

About the other components:

Wayona: this is the first time I hear about this brand so I can't comment.

GTX 960: for a better gaming experience, it's better if you downgrade your motherboard and cpu and use the money to buy a better GPU like an RX 480, R9 390, or GTX 970.

PSU: that depends on your budget. Amazon.in sells good PSUs.

Excellent question.

There is a stock heat sync that comes with the CPU (it's why the container is so big while the CPU is small), and I assume it works just fine, but I personally upgraded to a Cooler Master. Just keep in mind the physical size of the heat sync is rather large (it actually covers up a RAM slot on my motherboard) but you will never run into a cooling issue as long as there is proper air flow through your case.

E: If you choose to use that cpu, make sure you install the proper holding unit for it FIRST as it requires you to screw it on from behind the motherboard (mine does anyways) so you may end up needing to pull everything out after installing it to get it on.

u/escape_your_destiny · 1 pointr/computers

Some coolers can get quite large, make sure you have enough space in your case. Some of them also require access to the backside of the motherboard to install.

I recently did a build for my friend, using [this cooler](http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Contact-Heatpipes-RR-T4-18PK-R1/dp/B00BSKY1M4). It was for the 1150 socket, but should be similar to the AM3. The Hyper 212 EVO is an even more popular choice (performance vs money), but my friends case wouldn't fit that cooler, so I chose the T4 instead.

Some coolers orient more on cooling, and are a bit louder, while some are near silent but don't cool as good. It all depends what you want.

u/iambroshi · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

GTA V seems to have a well known problem with FRD even on the lowest settings on a high end pc. HOWEVER, since your CPU is maxing out, I would make sure to change the stock cooler. The one I have linked is the most popular heatsink out there as far as air cooling goes.

After checking tom's hardware PSU tier list, I did a search for something available in China for around the same price. I found the Season G-650, tier 2 on the above list, for only about 15$ dollars more.

I also upgraded to the 6600k

I also do have a version of windows 8 on my old comp but its water damaged and won't start. I might still have the box back in the states, but I'm not certain on that.

He's putting the heatsink on wrong somehow if he's broken 3 retention brackets with the stock heatsink, I guarantee it. The stocker isn't heavy enough to break the retention frame with weight alone.

It's time to move to something like a Hyper 212 EVO which has a different, metal retention mechanism that bolts through the motherboard. Note: Must remove motherboard to install this cooler.

Edit: Info you didn't supply, but that is necessary: This is starting to seem like a prebuilt and not a homebuilt system:

> Retention Bracket - Plastic, but screws in. Plastic lips keep snapping off.

Stock AMD heatsinks clip to the retention frame, they do not screw onto it. You sure you're using a stock retention mechanism? I'm not so sure...

Looks solid to me, not familiar with Solid Works though so I can't comment on that. You probably won't see more than a few dollars savings dropping to a lower wattage PSU and the 750w does give you the option of adding a second card for SLI in the future without having to upgrade it as well. Well worth the extra $5-10 in my opinion.

For keyboards, I have a
Microsoft Sidewinder X4 and for me at $40 with free shipping it would be tough to beat. It's not mechanical, but mine has lasted 3 years and still works beautifully (and I'm not that much of a fan of mech keyboards)

Mouse, I have a Roccat Kone that I love and at $40 is a decent price as well. Especially for the features that you get.

Why not? It's the K-series chip which means it's unlocked for overclocking.

If it's because of thermal issues, then the a new cooler like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo ($30 on Amazon) would be sufficient for some overclocking.

If it's because of the motherboard not supporting it, then I'm sorry for you for buying (or otherwise acquiring) the k-series chip (which is usually a not-insignificant amount more than the locked chip) and a motherboard that doesn't support overclocking.

However, a motherboard upgrade is not too expensive, you can get a LGA1150 (the number of pins in the socket for your processor) Z97 chipset (the type of model of motherboard that allows overclocking) for between $30 and $50 on ebay.

These older Haswell (i3/i5/i7 4XXX) processors hold up pretty well today, and overclocking them shows a decent gain in performance.

u/notaneggspert · 1 pointr/buildapc

Basically the only difference between the 1700 and the 1700x is that the 1700x is guaranteed to clock to 3.4 GHz and Turbo to 3.8 GHz on certain cores. There should be additional overclocking headroom on top of that but it's never guaranteed. Not all 1700x's can overclock to the same frequency this is the "silicon lottery".

The 1700 is clocked at 3.0 GHz (3.7 GHz Turbo) most of the time it's overclockable to the same if not better performance than the stock 1700x but this isn't guaranteed and you'll probably need a better than stock cooler to get it there. This is partially why the 1700x doesn't ship with a cooler. It needs a beefier cooler like the Cryorig H7 which is an excellent budget option, you just might need a free AM4 bracket since they're still not shipping with one. The Cooler Master 212 is the same story, the H5 is shipping with the bracket included.

You don't need a water cooler, they are generally lower profile so if you have a small case you might need one but often the stock fans aren't much quieter than the fan on the CPU coolers I linked. In brief periods of thermal testing they outperform air coolers but for long gaming sessions the difference in CPU thermals is minimal especially given the increased cost. They do look dope though.

1600 vs 1600x

1450 vs 1600 vs 1700

u/goodpricefriedrice · 1 pointr/buildapc

I wouldn't change the CPU, its possibly fine. CPUs can handle a fair bit of abuse. And trying to buy another 4790k is imho a waste of money.

What I would do is run some sort of stress test (AIDA64 or OCCT are my preferences) and check the CPU temps while it runs. First you need to confirm that the cpu is the problem. It does sound like maybe your cpu fan is defective.

So after testing youll possibly see your cpu temps getting super hot (90+ degrees C). I'd buy a quality cooler like this: https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-RR-212E-20PK-R2-120mm/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1511671384&sr=8-2&keywords=cooler+master+hyper+x

Now best case scenario your temps drop a tonne and your cpu runs perfectly.

Worst case scenario your cpu is still running hot because its been permanently damaged. But at least the cpu fan is still usable in your next build. So no $ wasted.

u/bennynjetts · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hi guys, I'm looking to upgrade my stock CPU cooler to an aftermarket air cooler and wanted some advice on which ones I should consider. It's on a 1155 socket, cooling a 3570k i5 (it's an older cpu). I helped a buddy build a pc and he grabbed a coolermaster evo 212, I didn't like the design of the mount when we put it on and wanted something a bit more sturdy.

TL:DR what's a good aftermarket air cooler?

Edit 1: after looking it up my buddy had a Gammaxx 400 (which doesn't use a backplate to mount). The Evo 212 looks WAY better than my initial thoughts were towards it.

u/BlueNinjaTiger · 1 pointr/computers

LinusTechTips did a video on positive vs negative air pressure and found the difference in temperature settings was negligible at most. Positive air flow, however, should reduce the dust that enters your pc, assuming you have dust filters over your intakes.

Liquid cooling should not be remotely necessary. Yes, it will improve performance over air cooling, but for most users air cooling is plenty good. /u/smgswattted, are you using the stock cooler? if so, get an inexpensive aftermarket (hyper 212 evo probably still best value) instead. Make sure you also have at least one case fan.
As far as airflow, this video shows that the key factor is having an adequately sized heat sink.
Personally, I'd wager your problem stems from bad/old thermal compound (and possibly using a stock heat sink). [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2p6Hk4IfqI} video explains what thermal compound is, and this video talks about how to apply it most effectively.
That said, /u/desuemery's list is very comprehensive/covers all the bases, but personally I'd suggest just getting that hyper 212 cooler and some new paste before getting liquid cooling or anything fancy unless you just want to be cool. That and get dust filters.

u/Cryst · 1 pointr/Vive

This is what i used, but you should google your specific CPU: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/265056-29-2600k-2500k-overclocking-guide
Programs I used were CPUID CPU-Z, Real temp and Prime95. You should defintely get a new CPU fan. I purchased this: https://www.amazon.ca/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469384246&sr=8-1&keywords=cool+master+hyper+212
I have a 2600k, i got it from 3.4 to 4.5. I could push it to 4.7 but the temps were going to high 70's, and i prefered low 70's. Mid 70's should be ok, but you are stressing the CPU the higher you go.

u/HysteriaVG · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm not sure that heatsink will support LGA 2011, and I also don't know much about that particular one. I know one you can never go wrong with is the 212 Evo which is both inexpensive and a great performer. Also supports like every socket available.

Edit: Also would be happy to look over the components when youre ready

u/PsychoTea · 1 pointr/hackintosh

Got any ideas for budget? Also, what software will you be using and what bitrate, resolution and general quality settings are you planning on encoding at? Is it also a necessity for 32GB of RAM? You would probably be able to save a good chunk of money to put towards other parts if you went with 16 or perhaps 24.

---

I'm not sure on the display outputs of the GTX 480, however running 3 monitors off of that and one off your onboard graphics chip you should be good to go (aslong as the connections aren't VGA, as corpnewt mentioned; it's quite hit-and-miss). For onboard graphics I'd recommend a motherboard with a HD530 chip, they're pretty well supported and off the top of my head require 2 bootflags to get working.

---

In terms of motherboards it's not particularly my forte, so I may be wrong on some of these things. I think it's generally accepted that Gigabyte motherboards are the best for hackintoshing and are all round great boards, so I'd definitely recommend one. As I said you'd probably want a board with a HD530 chip, or another chip with similar support. Assuming you want 32 gig of RAM you're gonna need support for that, and if you go for 16 for now you still might want to go for a board that supports 32 incase you decide to upgrade in the future or if 16 is not enough. I'd also recommend the 115x chipset as imo is going to give you the most choices on CPU with the best compatibility. After some talks with /u/CorpNewt he suggested this Gigabyte board. It's got enough PCI-E slots, supported onboard graphics (HD530), support for 64gb of RAM, ThunderBolt and good hackintosh support which should check all the boxes.

---

CPU? 6700k; 4 cores, 8 threads, 4.0Ghz clock speed, it's overclockability gives you some headroom if you ever need a bump in performance, the most powerful CPU you can get on Skylake currently (yes the enthusiast CPU's are round the corner but they are silly money and this should be plenty of power), great longevity, and most of all have good OSX support.

---

The CPU can be found here. You're gonna want a cooler such as a Hyper 212 Evo or a Corsair H55 AIO (I can vouch for this cooler, have one myself and it's great). If you plan on overclocking or want to just in case, you should probably look at something a bit beefier like a Corsair H100i AIO.

The mobo can be found here.

I would say its depending in the ambiental temps. Here we are at 38°C and my idle CPU is ranging from 35 to 45°C, and I find it pretty normal. But I find yours to be just fine. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.

The Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo seems pretty good at that price range.

u/Frigidfalcon · 1 pointr/buildapc

I would recommend this air cooler its cheaper on amazon by like 3 bucks

u/rangerxxll · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm thinking of this MB https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Skylake-B150-Motherboard-PC/dp/B014YN64A8 along with this cpu fan: https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI

Also, how much efficient is ddr4 ram compared to ddr3?

u/thedumbprogrammer · 1 pointr/techsupport

Things can't go wrong since your CPU is unlocked. But you need an aftermarket cooler first. This would fit your CPU just fine, https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI

Also, I think the heatsink that came with your processor should be fine, but i'd personally go for an aftermarket to OC.

u/discoparty · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thanks man! For CPU cooling I have this heatsink added: https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=bdl_pop_ttl_B005O65JXI

Would this work?

u/maldoraf7 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

No, you need a heatsink. The only time I've seen CPUs without cooling is on small ARM chips or computers such as the Rasp Pi. You need thermal paste, a heatsink, and a fan. You can actually use a fanless heatsink for less intensive operations on chips like Pentiums or i3's, but I'm guessing you will be gaming so you need to buy a heatsink with a fan, such as this one. But if you're going for Intel, then you'll get a stock heatsink in the box for free, which I wouldn't recommend using if you're going to be gaming.

u/Autonomoose · 1 pointr/buildapc

$29.99 on Amazon right now. I just replaced my stock fan on the 8320 with it. 12-15C cooler and quiet... Get it.

u/LastnameWurst · 1 pointr/pcmods

I suggest upgrading your CPU cooler to something possibly like the Cooler Master Hyper Evo, use some ArctiClean to clean up the CPU before the install after you remove the old cooler. I suggest using coffee filters to clean it up because they are lint free and work very well. You can find tutorials online on how to install a new cooler if you have any issues with it. You can either use the thermal paste the cooler comes with or get some Arctic Silver 5, I think Radioshack repackages it and sells it.

I also suggest setting it up so the fan is pushing air through the cooler towards the back of the case and if you can afford it, get a second fan for the other side and do a push/pull config and that will help temps a lot.

Or if you have enough room and want a good solution to lower CPU temps I suggest getting something like the Cooler Master Seidon 120XL. I have one in my build and helps the CPU temps since my case is so small

Also get some cable ties, that shit is a mess

CPU - Intel i5 8600k $239.

CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO $30.

Motherboard - MSI Z370-A PRO $100.

RAM - Patriot Viper Elite Series 8GB DDR4 2400MHz $81.

SSD - PNY CS1311 240GB $70.

I concur with other, a beefier cpu would be great, and it doesn't really have to be the latest series.

Or something even less.. just as a backup.. Not sure what CPU you have.. But I see them from as low as $12
Your not going to be doing any overclocking on that but it is just to keep you up till you get the Warranty replacement IF that is what they say you need to do.

Do not Get a Cheap Air Cooler until you run through support with Corsair and they tell you to send in for RMA>
Then Order something to get you by..

u/Travistyse · 0 pointsr/buildapc

Ah, right I didn't mention it; https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005O65JXI/?tag=pcpapi-20

And I agree - my current A8-5600K went from 3400 to 4300 which turned it from useless to passable. I doubt the difference here will be anywhere near that caliber. I don't overclock for the sake of it - wasting time and electricity + heat for 1fps or 15 seconds off of a render isn't worth it to me.

Having 2 cores meant that I had to gut Windows - often causing bugs I had to fix in the process - and prevented me from running some programs (or required extensive gutting) due to the CPU usage. I'm hoping that going from what seems to be 2 cores to 6 cores with 12 threads and better per core performance will make my every day experiences better in addition to cutting time off of renders and bakes.

And juuuuust maybe I can use the viewport settings that give me a better preview of what's going to be in the final build without turning the area into a furnace while those glorious 15 frames per second are churned out.

NVidia is my go to for this simply because CUDA cores are required for a lot of things + Vega isn't exactly killing it :/

My R9 270 is decent and I'd go to a 1060 if not for the 4K TV, the obvious factor that I'll use / need the extra horse power and VRAM, and my desire to check out VR.. which feels like a societal pressure to have a baby but instead coming from within - I know it's not ready yet and I'll just be disappointed but I'm also kinda tired of waiting, anxious to have experienced it, and could die at any minute because I'm a bike rider xD

u/RedSky1895 · 0 pointsr/hoggit

If you can save up for it, I'd do so for the sake of future proofing - you might want higher resolution someday as 1080p is getting old now. If you're sure you have no intention of going above 2550x1600, you can get away with the 1060, save money, and still be prepared enough for the future. Still just get the 6600K, though, if your purpose is gaming. Hyperthreading doesn't get you much for that usage.

On overclocking: No, it's not at all difficult with unlocked chips. Get a half-decent cooler (the 212 evo will do just fine) instead of the stock one, and you should be good to go. You can find plenty of guides online for how to do it, and as long as you don't do anything blatantly stupid you literally cannot break anything.

Some suggestions if you are willing to spend a little more:

  • If you buy a 1-2TB WD Blue (or something similar but WDs are the industry standard) you can boot the system off the SSD (so it will be fast) but then have a large amount of storage for your games/large files
  • A 3rd-party CPU cooler (for example the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo) can reduce CPU temperatures by like 20°C, in turn boosting CPU performance substantially.

The 9900k is at least 10% better in 99% of games , and u can get a decent air cooler for $30-$40 (like the Hyper 212) not to mention it will be better than AMD’s Wraith cooler. This makes them basically the same price. And depending where you buy it from, the 9900k + cooler is actually cheaper than the 3900x.

The 3900x is the better choice for people who do any type of content creation, multitasking, multiple monitors, etc... but if you’re purely gaming (like me and the majority of gamers) than the 9900k is clearly the better option.

It’s the low/mid range builds that AMD is dominating. The 3600 is incredible for the price. However intel is still king of the high end builds.
