If you're worried about scratches in bottles I figured you'd also be concerned about bottle necks, etc and have them around for cleaning because they don't require a lot of dexterity. I brew beer from time to time so I buy these cat toys (like these https://www.amazon.com/Cosmos-Assorted-Colors-Cleaners-Chenille/dp/B01EHO7P2K/) for about $1 per 10 off ebay or from a hobby store. They're good for cleaning because it's critical to keep all the tubes and pipes clean. I sterilize them and reuse them too.
I get that you don't like the metal straws but it's not clear to me why or maybe a better question is what is it you like about the plastic straws? Is it mostly that they are disposable?
