If you come in through Sault Ste Marie and Wisconsin, get over to South Dakota, the West starts in western SD, the Badlands,the Missile Silos, the Black Hills, Mt Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Monument, Deadwood, Devil's Tower, from there down to Colorado and Rocky Mt. N.P. Definitely get the NP Pass and this out of print book Crossing America. It is old but many of the big sites don't change, a NP isn't moving.
