I got this to max mine out. It was recommended by others, and is working great. I'm running the modified firmware, but updating to coreboot when my soic clip arrives.

I upgraded mine with this from Amazon: Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2)... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JCRZ6XS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

And noticed immediately that the system ran smoother than before. Plex Media Server runs with no buffering, media syncing is ridiculously fast, and all around solid build.

16gb of ram should run you about $100 US, 256gb SSD should be another ~$120

As for the RAM not making a difference, that's somewhat hard to quantify, I sometimes find myself with several dozen chrome/firefox tabs open, and I'm using 5-6gb of RAM. My T530 came with 8gb when I got it off of ebay and, after upgrading the wifi card, switching to 16gb of RAM + SSD was the next thing I did.

Crucial is good stuff. I thought the Late 2015 iMac was using PC3-14900 RAM though. Be sure to check.

Woah I'm running exactly the same ram also working non-stop with no problems, Here's an Amazon link where I got mine from: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JCRZ6XS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_hQm4DfHcUvJil

This is the RAM I am using, one of the best for the X220.

In case the link doesn't work this is the model number:

I am not entirely sure if you can still download this BIOS version from Lenovo. If you can't find it then you'll need to use the custom BIOS from McDonnel.

Thanks for this. This is the 16GB kit I’m looking at ordering. Hopefully it will be compatible.

I used this in my DS718+. If the specs are the same, it should work. Mind your max limit though. Even though my NAS reports 16GB, the stated max for the processor is 6GB. No problems yet, YMMV.

I'm pretty sure this is the laptop RAM. do you think this would work in the video card mentioned?
