So the box is light tight except for the red gel viewing window on top. The red gel on top works for indoor ambient lighting but in the field I have to cover it with the light proof shroud (which is just a layer of black duvetyne plus an outer layer of blackout curtain liner fabric) or else the daylight will fog the plate. But you only need safelight conditions for loading the sensitized plate into the holder and developing the plate. Flowing the plate with collodion and fixing can be done in normal light.
The box is only big enough for 5x7 and smaller. Here's a picture of the inside with my old 4x5 setup. It hasn't changed much except that I now use a better constructed 5x7 tank for both sizes.
For 8x10 I use a grow tent that I can clamp the shroud to. But I've only used it indoors so far. It's tight but works.
