Dell Ultrasharp U2415. You aren't going to find anything better in that price range, believe me. I got two of them a few months ago and my eyes are totally spoiled now.

I've sworn by Dell UltraSharps for a bit over a decade now. You can get a fantastic U2415 on Amazon for $210. Unlike the typical 1080p monitors, this one is 1980x1200. The extra pixels on the vertical side is very useful for editing.

Bad news for you here my friend, all your external monitors for your setup are on the list of monitors that aren't supported/compatible. I've been fighting this same issue for over a month now using Samsung monitors that weren't on either the supported or unsupported list and finally decided to go out on a limb and buy two Dell U2415 monitors and to my surprise, it resolved my issue.

Sorry you're dealing with this. I feel your pain. Best solution is to sell your "old" monitors and buy new ones. :-(

I would recommend either the Dell Ultrasharp U2415 or the Asus PA248Q. They are both decent monitors suited for working with photos/graphics because they are both equipped with IPS panels, matte coating and high sRGB coverage.

The Asus monitor goes a bit over your budget, but it also offers a full 100% sRGB coverage as opposed to the Dell's 99%. It's up to you to decide whether that's worth the higher price, since the two monitors are very similar otherwise.

It's a bit laggy sometimes, so I'm considering an eGPU for running all three screens so I can have all in full res and no latency issues.

More important than resolution is good color accuracy. This one is a pretty good deal and well-reviewed.

Dell ultrasharps are very good. HP elitedisplays are also good. A high quality monitor that is 24" should only cost around 150-250 USD.


Something to consider is the stand, and the amount of movement you want - cheaper monitors are not as adjustable as higher end monitors.

24" 16:10 1920x1200 Dell U2415. It does not have DVI. It has HDMI and Display Port only. Reviewed well on TFTcentral. Pretty much your best option if you want 1920x1200.

No problem! I'd rather leave people with information instead of vague statements that leave them knowing what to do, but not WHY to do it haha. What's your budget for a monitor looking like? Because you can get a budget-minded 1080p screen like this that has amazing rgb color space accuracy/range at 99%. OR you can spend extra for the 4k and get something like this beast. Each one is great for design in their own rights but, of course, they're on different ends of the spectrum price-wise. It's all up to you, and your wallet! Honestly, if I were gaming on this rig, I'd probably get the budget monitor and put in a couple hundred for a decent gaming monitor as well! The 4k display is amazing if you're doing design, but the 6ms response time is less-than-optimal for competitive gaming. But if you aren't playing pvp-oriented games, you'd be absolutely fine!

Fractal design is well known for their compact and quiet designs, but if you just need something quiet with good airflow, and you've got the budget, I'd recommend getting something like the Be Quiet! Silent Base 800. BQ is one of the leading makers when it comes to insulated cases with amazing airflow and cooling capabilities. Only downside is, usually their cases aren't light at all haha. But as long as you aren't relying TOO much on mobility, they're a great pick!

I got the OLED from amazons description. I originally did not put it in my post but edited (which I should of listed) it when I saw amazons comparison chart. It is the successor to the u2412m though. But yeah it uses the same technology as the 16:9 u2414h. Thank you for the correction, I will updated my post.

You most likely won't find a monitor for photos much lower priced than that. To get a monitor with really good color you'll need to spend even more.

If you had $500 to spend on a two monitor setup, what monitor would you get? I've been looking at the Dell U2415 as I appreciate a good stand, thin bezel, and 16:10 resolution for productivity, but was wondering if anyone had a different suggestion.

[Edit] Also, unrelated, but what would you do with an Phenom II x4 965? I just recently upgraded from that to an i7-4790k, but I hate to see it go to waste. The thing has done some good work in the past 5-6 years I've had it. Ideally I'd like to build some sort of ITX system with it, but unfortunately ITX boards were after its time it seems.

The Dell U2415, though "only" 60Hz/5ms GTG, is fucking awesome and quite cheap too at $239. It has practically invisible bezels, and I much prefer the clean, minimal design to Acer/ASUS's spaceship looking bullshit

It's also 1920x1200, and if you only run 1 screen you'll appreciate the extra vertical space compared to 1080p.

Also consider its big brother the U2515H @1440p/25" ~$330-350. My 1070 drives that at 60fps/ultra pretty consistently

what's low budget? The Dell U2415 is highly recommended for accurate colors.

I have a Dell U2415 1200p monitor and I love it. The extra vertical pixels are great for productivity and the aspect ratio has given me zero problems with most games. The monitor is great too...very vibrant, good color accuracy and easy on the eyes.

I know a lot of comments suggest a 1080p monitor, but while this is great for consumers and watching HD videos and maybe games, as a software developer you're going to want more vertical pixels I really recommend you go for a WUXGA (1920x1200) or QHD/WQHD which is basically 1440p. You'll also definitely want an IPS panel.

IMO this monitor is the best value on the market today.

You're going to have a hard time finding a good selection. The 1920x1200 resolution is becoming increasingly rare.

That said, I have two Dell U2412M's I bought 2-3 years ago. I love them! They check every box in your requirements... but the problem is that newer versions of the monitor (Manufactured after like mid-2013) have a pretty strong yellow tinge to them. I wouldn't get a new one anymore.

You could try this year's model- it's more expensive and I can't vouch for it personally, but it seems to fit the bill.

I have no use for 4K, but I just bought these https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00NZTKOQI/ref=pe_3034960_236394800_TE_dp_1 with a thunderbolt 3.0 to displayport adapter. They're actually nicer than I expected, super thin bezel. Always been happy with Dell monitors.

I have a pair of Dell U2415 monitors side by side and they are fantastic. The aspect ratio is 16:10 instead of the usual 16:9 so its just a bit taller and I think that makes all the difference. It's 1920x1200, so 1080p content still plays at full HD, but having a set of plans up or two docs side by side is more comfortable.

Having two monitors gives me the flexibility to turn one or both into portrait every now and then if I'm working with a tall document. I prefer these two over 1 4k display.

While I'm at it, I'll say I'm a huge fan of the Logitech MX Master mouse. I would recommend a docking station too. It saves time and wear and tear on your ports.

But your best bet would be to just go to a store that has a lot of monitors and check them out in person.

It’s a great monitor, but do you REALLY need 4K? Think this through because you are using just a CPU and no GPU so if you want to utilize and have more performance from the CPU when rendering, I would recommend a 25-27 inch 1440p, just as good but easier on the cpu so you have more to work with, even though the CPU does support 4K. Secondly you have PLENTY of room in that case, I don’t know what you’re talking about, especially the fact that it will not have a GPU. The case also supports up to one 2.5 storage mount.

Tip: Also if you did have Windows 7 or 8 in the past, that same serial key will work to activate Windows 10.

Check out this article for more info on the monitor. If you wind up not being crazy about it, it's also a pretty decent roundup of the 24" monitor scene right now regardless and could serve as a good starting point for the perfect fit.

If she wants image quality for her monitor than she should get an IPS by Dell, like the UP2516D. It's got an IPS panel, 2560x1440 at 25 inches and fantastic color calibration. Artists and those who want great color calibration love it. Movies and shows will look great on it too.

Yes, it's $500 but unless you're willing to drop down to $260 for the U2415 (which is what I have btw) which is 24.1 inches and 1920x1200, you're going to get an inferior display with $300 at 2560x1440. Most likely a TN panel.

Decent 2560x1440 IPS display still arn't cheap. Maybe in a couple more years.

So put aside $500 just for the monitor and you're still left with $900 for the PC, which is easily doable.

The i3 is a little beast (I have it and I use it for gaming!) and she doesn't need 16GB of memory or a m.2 SSD either.

But that monitor will last her years. It's beautiful and 2560x1440. =)

I have two Dell U2415 that are pretty amazing. Way cooler than my previous U2408s or an Asus IPS I had. Super thin bezel too so side by side is almost like a single monitor. $250 or so each. Don't use AMD so not sure about freesync.
