Here’s the laptop I own It does great for older games and games that don’t demand a lot from a decent graphics card. I got it for Christmas last year for college, CK2, Skyrim and M&B. I thought it could at least run Bannerlord on very low at 30 fps; I get 30fps if I stand still and look at the sky... Otherwise it’s around 10-15 and with heavy drops.

Hi,

In your price range, I would also have to agree with going Ryzen. It would be the best option for a better balance between processing power and GPU power. The device I found within your budget is the Dell Inspiron 15 5575, which is decent for the price but definitely has some flaws. But, it will be able to get the tasks you've listed done. It can do some light gaming since it has a better GPU than the integrated Intel graphics. It does feature a backlit keyboard.

The bigger issue with this laptop is the display: kind of poor, only TN, but not uncommon in this range. Also, the battery life won't be great since the Ryzen chips use more power than the low-power Intel chips.

You might want to mention your actual budget and also what your PC specs, detail and resolution the game runs at: a big drop in either might disappoint!

WoWs is very undemanding at low detail and resolution, and as others have said will run well on any modern integrated graphics, but to run it at med/high details at 1080p would need a little more.

A desktop with a R2200/2400G (which have Vega 8/11 graphics) would run it well, and also do a reasonable job on many (but not the most demanding) modern games. There will be plenty of 5 year old mid-range gaming systems on ebay, if that is an option, that would run it well.

A R2500U laptop is a decent option e.g.
This $475 laptop which will run more than just WoWs, although it does only have a spinning HD, not a SSD - which is not ideal these days. HP and Lenovo have similar offerings also with varied options. Avoid cheaper laptops with Vega 3 graphics imho.

It sounds like she wants a Ryzen Mobile system, even though they have some driver issues on Windows, they shouldn't matter much in her use-case and I can recommend the Lenovo IdeaPad 330 or Dell Inspiron 15. If the budget allows it, take a look at the Acer Swift 3 series that has the best implementation of the Ryzen 5 2500U.

Budget: < $499

Country: USA

Screen size: ---

Screen resolution: ---

Touch screen: ---

Weight: ---

Main purpose of laptop: Office Work & Streaming

If you will be gaming, what are the most demanding games you will play and at what settings? ---

Is battery life an issue? The more the better. 3hrs would be nice. But flexible

Other notes: Laptop for Dad and Mom. Both are pretty tech savvy. But they are also old.

Mom has higher needs since she tutors kids long distance and requires multiple tabs and multiple live online programs running while streaming video chat with students.

Dad performs typical office work.

Was interested in this laptop when it was $400. Missed the sale by seconds. Hoping to find something similar.

Well, if you can just increase your budget to $510 you can purchase the following 15.6" ASUS VivoBook F510UA which has a quad core i5-8250u CPU with an IPS matte finish (not glossy) 1080p screen and weighs in at 3.7lbs. $510 is the normal price so no need to rush out to buy the laptop. This is the least expensive laptop with the quad core i5-8250u that I know of for now. I have not seen a Black Friday sale on an inexpensive i5-8250u laptop yet.

If you prefer a laptop that is more capable of playing "low end games", then consider the following Dell Inspiron 5575 with the Ryzen 5 2500u APU with the Radeon Vega 8 integrated GPU. The Vega 8 is about 2x more powerful than the Intel UHD 620 in the i5-8250u; it is roughly similar to an nVidia 930m... but only if there are two sticks of RAM installed which allow the RAM to operate at full speed (Dual Channel). The difference compared to running with one stick of RAM (Single Channel) could be 10% to 20% depending on the specific game. Integrated graphics relies on system RAM speed so you get better performance when RAM runs at full speed.

There is no information stating if the laptop has 2 sticks of 4GB RAM or a single stick of 8GB RAM installed. So to get the full potential of the Vega 8 you may need to spend money to buy 4GB / 8GB DDR4 2400 RAM, but even with 1 RAM stick it will still be faster than the Intel UHD 620. The Ryzen 5 2500u CPU processing performance is less than the i5-8250u, but if you want to play games, then you definitely want more powerful integrated graphics. The laptop is a bit heavier at 4.8lbs.

Budget: 400-450 USD

Country: Paraguay, shopping from american amazon

Screen size: doesn't really matters but a 15 inche screen would be great

Screen resolution: 1080p

Touch screen: Not required but is nice to have

Weight: the weight is not relevant, what does matter is the shipping wheight

I'll be using the laptop for light gaming, homework (OpenOffice mostly), and maybe a little of 3D desing with Fusion 360. I think that Ryzen 5 2500U with 8gb of RAM would be ideal. This laptop is a strong candidate, but I wanted to know if there is a better deal on amazon

To calcule shipping I use this website (in spanish), which will calculate the shipping to my cuntry + taxes
