I don't know how tight your budget might be, but adding $80 more you can get this which has a much better graphics card, in fact the laptop I linked has a GTX 1050 which pulls double the frames than the one you linked. If you got another 80$ I'd go with the one I linked, It's on sale now hence the lower price.

u/s3ph · 4 pointsr/laptops

What made you pick those two units? The first one is using a 6th generation processor.

What do you think of something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-Gaming-i5577-7359BLK-PUS-Chassis/dp/B06XFGDD8P

It has better specs than the ones you've linked for a good price.

u/audigex · 4 pointsr/CitiesSkylines

This, but minus 1TB of storage and prioritize the SSD.

SSDs are the single best upgrade for loading times (which in CS can get quite long with lots of mods and assets), and general "snappiness" of the machine.

1TB is over-kill for most, and if you run low on storage for photos etc you can easily buy an external HDD or NAS for not very much money at all.

A 256GB SSD will do the job just fine for Cities Skylines, a couple of other games, and some documents, but 500GB is more comfortable if you want to install other large games. More than that is un-necessary unless you want to store a large number of videos too.

Something like this would be ideal for $900.

Or this for a little less money for $800. It will perform a little worse for CS (slightly worse CPU), a little better in most other games (better graphics card), and has less storage, but is cheaper.

And at $700, this is the cheapest I'd probably bother with, as you start to lose a little too much performance when you drop significantly below this level.

If the above is too expensive, though, dropping the SSD can get you this which is a bit of a compromise but should still run CS well enough and is hard to argue with at $525

Edit: Although I'll add that I'm not American and just grabbed these for example purposes: you may be able to find better deals for comparable specifications.

u/zebrastripe665 · 3 pointsr/gaming

You may already know this, but if you don't need a laptop then buying a gaming desktop will be a way better deal. Building it yourself will be the best deal. It's a little intimidating, until you realize there are a ton of YouTube guides and a subreddits dedicated to helping people put together a having desktop. Otherwise, Reddit can point you to some good prebuilt systems.

For a laptop recommendation, try to find this one with the 1050 ti graphics card. The 1050 ti is noticeably better than the 1050:

You aren't going to be able to run things on Ultra 60fps with a laptop less than $700. Maybe you could if you get a used laptop, but nothing new. The best I can find is this dell (which is about $150 over budget) and even then you will be getting like 40fps average on ultra, mayyyyybe 50-60 on high.

EDIT: this dell will have less performance, (1050 vs. ti) but is cheaper

u/Jebobek · 3 pointsr/laptops

If you're going to go beyond League/Dota and pull off something like Overwatch I'd suggest a budget gaming laptop: Dell Inspiron 15.6" Gaming Laptop (7th Gen Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 1050) (i5577-5335BLK-PUS)

Edit: If you want to push your budget go for the Lenovo Legion Y520 with the GTX 1050ti

u/CombatBotanist · 3 pointsr/computers

I would recommend this Dell laptop ($750 on amazon right now). It is a newer version of the laptop that I have and it is great for just about everything you would want to do on a laptop. Mine runs all the newest games on medium @ 60 FPS and has more than enough horsepower for whatever software I need. One thing though, I would recommend getting the one with the SSD as the 5400 RPM HDDs that you find in laptops are to slow to run Windows 10 well. It has an empty 2.5 inch hard drive bay if you need to add more storage later and the process is incredibly simple.

u/DustyTurboTurtle · 2 pointsr/OverwatchUniversity

Sorry I just noticed that the Dell you linked actually has a pretty bad harddrive, is recommend this one instead, but it's a few bucks extra https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XFGDD8P/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1520295735&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=dell+gaming+laptops&dpPl=1&dpID=41zfabBnrLL&ref=plSrch

Also if you really wanna stay on the cheap side, this is the best I could find in just a few minutes of searching, but this laptop had 1 tiny fan vs the 2 giant fans in the Dell (And more cooling/fans = better performance) https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075FLBJV7/ref=psdcmw_13896615011_t1_B01K1IO3QW?th=1&psc=1

I highly recommend the Dell though as it has all better parts + wayyy better cooling so it's miles better for only $150 extra

u/ahrhamza · 2 pointsr/battlefield_one

How much is your budget? If you could spend maybe till $850, check out the Dell Inspiron 15 or the Acer VX 15. Both have decent specs and you can run Battlefield at high settings with around 50ish fps.

Acer VX 15

Dell inspiron 15

Both have options you can choose depending on what you want and how much you're looking to spend.

u/laptopquesting · 2 pointsr/laptops

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XFGDD8P/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile?th=1&psc=1

Maybe that one, I'd recommend at least a 1050 for your needs although a 1050 ti would be better. Most of the ones you listed won't be able to handle your games.

u/ikhezu · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

If you want something for gaming, check this dell out. It is bit chunky and not that light but it is manageable. Will run games well enough though.

This is lighter and has better battery life. But it is almost 2 years old. MAYBE it can run overwatch on low, but I'm not sure. the microsoft surface pro book

This is the best I can do considering your price point and specifications. I hope that helps!

u/starchaserro · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Hi,

Based on your requirements I have made this noteb search

You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button in the upper-left part of the search results page. You can also click on the laptops for more information.

An option for you is this one: Dell Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming - Intel i5-7300HQ, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, 8GB DDR4, 1000GB SSHD - you can add a SSD for speed later - it's about 850 CAD at canadacomputers

And I found it with a SSD here: amazon.ca for 1040 CAD.

u/MrsCastillo12 · 2 pointsr/CitiesSkylines

I bought this one..

[Dell inspiron 5577] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFGDD8P/ref=twister_B06XYM29GY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

I came with one 8gb RAM stick, so I plan on buying another, as it can support up to 32gb.

I'm also going to replace the screen as the screen on this one is not that great.
I plan to replace it with this one

I mainly bought it because I currently have a MBP, but I wanted something I could upgrade and add to, as I can't do that with my MBP. I'm pretty happy with it. I was playing last night on high settings with some basic mods and a few assets (TM:PE, Move It and RICO, for now) there wasn't any lagging or problems and the laptop barely warmed up, which I was surprised about. I don't plan on using it for much else though, I have a few other games I want to add, but since my other laptop still works, I plan on using that one for my work/docs/pics and stuff like that so this one wont get bogged down.

You can pick up a wireless keyboard and mouse combo at Walmart probably for like 15$

Amazon says the GPU is out of stock... no surprise there. I don't think its the price you should be worried about (they are really stupidly overpriced right now nonetheless) its the quantity of graphics cards on the market right now. Most large PC stores will probably have maybe 10 GPUs in stock if they're lucky, most likely less. Sign up to the email reminder for the card, and try to look in local stores for a graphics card that supports 4K.

These are the Nvidia GPUs that support 4K
List

Consider getting a laptop for you uses, especially if its not gaming you seek. They tend to be cheaper for whats inside them currently.

You're at uni and the battery life is fucking sick (obviously you plug it in to play but for actual lap top stuff it's got a ridiculous BL)

u/nikidash · 2 pointsr/flightsim

If you can stretch to 900 dollars i'd jump straight to this (i really really suggest it) but if it is a hard limit this this should work well too.

u/Johnnyallstar · 2 pointsr/gaming

Unless you need real CPU horsepower for video/3d rendering, you can get by with an i5. If your major needs the aforementioned, you might want to bump up to an i7.

As for a gpu, I think a GTX 940 is the absolute bottom, while a 1050 or 1050ti is the real target, because they are very good for the price point. Make sure you have at least 8 GB of RAM. 4 isn't enough for modern gaming.

Also, most gaming laptops at this price point will be 15.6". If you want a 17.1" you will probably have to pony up a bit more, though you lose some portability. Up to you.

Also, some gaming rigs at that price point need to have an additional storage hard drive bought, else you'll be gimped to only 256GB of space. I'll give you a few examples of decent laptops, and note if it needs anything. You should look around, though. Examine options.

ASUS FX502VM Is a good laptop at the price point. Has a GREAT gpu for gaming, but no SSD, so it might boot up a few seconds slower than one with an SSD. It's big brother costs $100 more, has an SSD, and an i7 if you really want irresponsible power. Probably gets pretty hot under gaming load.

MSI GP62MVR248 Probably this price for clearing out, but has an i7, GTX 1060, and plenty of horsepower for anything you need.

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 A good option at a lower price point than the previous two I mentioned.

Lenovo y40-80 A little cheaper, and uses a radeon gpu instead of nvidia, but still a good gpu. I'm not the biggest radeon guy, but it's not bad.

u/largepanda · 2 pointsr/linux_gaming

This Dell Inspiron would be a decent choice. i5-6300HQ, 960M, 8GB RAM, and 256GB SSD for $750. Or the current gen equivalent for $50 more.

Dell has a pretty good Linux support track record, and some of their laptops (but not this one) officially support Linux.

u/thegenregeek · 2 pointsr/VideoEditing

Question: What are the specs/model of your current PC? How old is it?

Your laptop crashing could simply be a software issue. If you are running the default Windows installation a complete reinstall might be a good option. If your PC has Windows 10 (and was upgraded from Win 7/8/8.1) then you can use the Media Creation Tool to get Windows reinstall media... without any bloatware.

---

This PC should work (the specs here are exactly what you want), but I personally do not recommend HP. The few HP notebooks I've used have been of poor design. The biggest problem with them is usually badly designed cooling and layout. This is a problem as video editing can heat up the machine, quite easily.

I personally recommend Asus and Dell machine. As my experience with them has been solid from a hardware perspective (in fact I'm typing this on an Asus N550JK from 2014). In the $800 range though it's a little problematic, unless you find some good deals. (You might want to look at the Inspiron 15 Dell is selling right now).

u/DjangoBaggins · 2 pointsr/gaming

Yes, ideally you want a desktop. I however was in your boat about a year and a half ago when I purchased this bad boy. I got the 1TB hard drive with a smaller SSD. There is a slot for an extra stick of RAM, super easy to install, and same if you want to get one without the SSD so you can put an even bigger one in there after purchase. I only needed the RAM when I started playing PUBG. This computer is great, plays Overwatch and DOOM on ultra. I have yet to have trouble playing a game, even Witcher 3 on ultra runs smooth. This is a great little laptop. It does need to stay plugged in though.

with that budget you really dont have alot of great options however this Dell Inspiron seems like a good option but its a little outside your budget and it also has a low quality screen. but it does bring good power for gaming and it will be good for school as well.

u/netniuQ08 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I think I can go as high as $800, as long as I have the comfort of mind that itll last long enough for it to be worth that. I.e. 4 years (that's a reasonable amount, right?) without it being baked enough, or simply pathetic enough that it's now too slow, outdated, underpowered, or damaged for daily use.
Priorities for specs would probably go:
Processor>RAM>SSD>Battery>resolution>Cooling>graphics>weight>size>noise(casual)>noise(intensive)

Priorities for use would go:
Web surfing/researching>schoolwork/writing>watching>using random apps>retro emulation>pc gaming

I don't know what kind of tasks I'll need to do in the future, but right now I'm in simple classes, and my major is biology, not code, art&design, or engineering. I would also focus on Skyrim, indies, and emulation (nes-wii u), more than playing rise of the tomb raider on med/high.
These are some I've been looking at:

u/tipadisdick · 1 pointr/OverwatchUniversity

there are laptops around 500 which could run overwatch better than what you have now. something like this would probably run overwatch at at least 30 fps around medium/low settings and something like this would probably be closer to 60 on medium/lower settings even though it is a bit pricier.

u/DarkeKnight · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Hey, this is getting kinda silly but I need your opinion again.

So my budget is now a solid 800$. I was looking at the Acer Aspire VX 15 that you linked earlier. At the time it was 799$. Now it seems to have jumped to 899$, so it's kinda out of the question.

So what do I go for now?

At 799$ and with similar specs, I found:

Dell Inspiron 5577

and

Lenovo Legion Y520

Which do I go for? Or are there any better laptops than these?

I'll 100% be buying the laptop by the end of the week.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Well I'm alright adding an HDD but it changes the budget on the laptop. I'll see if I can afford it.

But still, I don't see how this one isn't too far off from the mark.

I could get it with 1 TB HDD, no SSD
Or I could get it with no HDD, 256 GB SSD for cheaper than the acer and upgrading would put me very close to the budget line.

EDIT: removed affiliate links

u/tramik · 1 pointr/buildapc

I disagree with the $800 price tag. There's no way I'd pay that.

This laptop is new at $800 and out performs yours in every way that matters - CPU/GPU/SSD. The screen is a bit smaller but that doesn't yield the cost.

Given that it has less performance and is used, I wouldn't pay more than $400.

CPU comparison. GPU comparison.

If you can find a sucker for $800, great.

Any good notebook/laptop for normal use? i needgonna use it in my college, i'll use it for coding and stuff, maybe some light gaming.

I was thinking on one with at least 8gb ram, and an SSD 120gb or 250gb-ish, i prefer an i5, and for the GPU i don't care, it can be a 9xx series or with a 1030 (if it's better than the 9xx series) ir with a 1050.

I was thinking on getting the MSI GL62M 7RD-1407 or the Dell Inspiron but i don't know if there are some other alternatives.

Would you consider the newer version of that Dell is worth a wait and additional $80? essentially the 960m vs. the 1050m?

u/TacticalBastard · 1 pointr/laptops

I would go for this newer model. If you feel like you need the 16GB you can upgrade it yourself.

The 1050 is much stronger than the 960M and the i5-7300HQ is about 6% faster than the i7-6700HQ, the only thing it trails in is multi core processes, which you won't really need to worry about.

My Dell Inspiron 1525 (Core Duo t7500) is not gonna cut it...

I'd be running solid edge, matlab and doing basic programming (python and C++) on it, and a few games for the off chance I am traveling.

Battery life is said to be around 4-5 hours on photoshop/word etc. It has a gtx 1050 which should last you the 4 years gaming (although not on max settings.) 8gb of ram which should be plenty however you can upgrade later on. It only has 256gb of ssd space however you can always add another ssd or hdd later on. 7th gen Core i5 which will be enough for your purposes and enough to last 4+ years. Hope this helps. Just so you know, basically no laptop on the market will get a 20 hour battery. Especially if you're looking for something to play games and run engineering software, you'll be lucky to find something that will last 6 or 7 hours of light use.

If you want to budget, maybe look into the Acer Aspire 15 for $580. It has an advertised battery life of 12 hours (because it's specs aren't as good). It would still work fine for your use, but may be on its last leg after 4 years. It comes with a kaby lake i5 processor, 8gb of ram, 256gb SSD and a GTX 940MX dGPU. It has a 1080p display, and an okay build quality. It can run light and medium games pretty well but will struggle with some more graphic intensive gaming.

Otherwise, maybe look into the Dell Inspiron 7567 for around $800. It meets your needs a bit more with better specs while still maintaining an okay battery. It has a quad core kaby lake processor, 8gb of ram, 256gb SSD and a GTX 1050 dGPU. The 1050 dGPU will work fine for pretty much all games on the market but incredibly graphic intense ones will have to have their settings turned down quite a bit. It has a 10 hour advertised battery life from Dell, a 1080p display, and a pretty good battery life. It weighs in at 5.8 lbs though.

u/Dev-SX · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

You can get something better in this price range With More powerful specs thou. Something with an 6700hq and a 960m Seems right about in the 750-800 range. Plus dont forget that the Ram is soldered on the Mi and you get 8 gigs. Plus The only other option to upgrade memory is through an M.2 slot (no Cheap and high quantity hard drives which seems like the way to go to keep your tracks on)
Something like this is even better (since the 1050 is great for gaming)

> You're looking at $1,000 USD at minimum for a "gaming" laptop of any type of quality.

What's wrong with this one for $800, for example?

used to go for $600 but the sale ended. better off getting it on Amazon as it's $694 free shipping and no taxes. Grand total for Costco would be around $770.
