To play the game, you would need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ or http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-12623RED-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYZ186/
These 2 would be the bare minimum for the game when it comes to the graphic processor (GTX 960m). They will as far as we know now, handle the game, but most likely at minimum settings.
A lot better would be something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233094R
But... laptops aren't so good for gaming, not even gaming laptops. Graphics cards produce a lot of heat and laptops don't cope too well with heat. For laptops graphic processors to work well in a laptop, the make them slower and less powerfull then a desktop one. This way the consumer less power and produce less heat. Laptops aren't build for gaming.
For less money you can buy a desktop, the handle heat well and don't need to take power consumation into consideration, since they don't have a battery. Something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227604 or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883102076 both will run circles around the laptop when it comes to gaming. They will run NMS very comfortably. You would of course still need a monitor.
Then there's the PS4.... for half the money, you can get a PS4. It has everything you need to run the game, no worries, no hassle. You don't need to worry about drivers, settings or if your laptop/pc will run the game. Whatever game is released for the PS4, always runs well on the PS4. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16868110152
.
I'm a pc gamer and pc gaming has a number of advantages over PS4 gaming, I've owned a PS4 as well as a gaming PC. Seriously, if all you care about is this game, then do yourself a huge favour and save yourself a lot of money and hassle and get the ps4.
i7559 with i5 - $780
i7559 with i7 - $829
I have the i5 version and love it. Added an m.2 ssd and an extra 8gb of ram and the thing flies.
Edit: I just noticed the i5 I linked has the 256gb ssd. The one I got came with a 1tb hybrid drive.
First link was the Microsoft signature edition. I believe it had a larger ssd, a uhd screen, and a grey/black matte finish. The fixed link is my actual laptop. Hybrid hdd with 8gb ssd, 1080p screen, and a black/red matte finish.
Edit: maybe this link will finally work
I5 variant:

I'd say sell the desktop for $750-800 and use the extra money for a nice laptop cooler 😉
Also if you're not deadset on that laptop I used the Dell Inspiron gaming laptop in college and it was fantastic for what I played (overwatch, dead by daylight, GTA, counterstrike, etc.) Here's the link if you're interested.

These two won't mesh well together-- I used to be heavily into laptops for gaming but finally caved and just built a tower. Gaming laptops are more expensive than their PC counterparts by a fair margin.
That being said, I did some research, and holy moly, there are some really nice budget gaming laptops out there now. Since you used a Razer Blade (~$2300) as your example of "out of your budget range", I'm going to assume sub-1000 is what you're shooting for.

I am incredibly impressed by the Dell Inspiron 7559, and I believe it's going to be the absolute best performance/price ratio you'll get under $1000. It's running the new Skylake i5 (I'm still running on the old Haswell series), a nVidia 960M (some excellent 60+ FPS benchmarks at medium settings on all recent games, some are even 60 FPS at high settings surprisingly), a 250GB SSD/1TB HDD split, 1080p IPS display. 8GB RAM is enough for gaming.
For that budget, I go for the Dell Inspiron i7559-12623RED easily.
Any of these 3. I'd probably go for #3
One
Two
Three
I would suggest this Dell Inspiron i7559 it comes with Intel Quad Core i5-6300HQ 2.3 GHz Processor, 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD Hybrid Drive Storage, 15.6 Inch FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) LED-lit Truelife Screen, Windows 10 Operating System.
The reason I am suggesting this over the thinkpad is because its specs is not future prof, specially the low storage SSD and the GPU
While im not sure if this would be available in the UK with same price, definitely consider this dell, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZ186/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_Kb4nxb0WCB4AW GTX960M is really the best (i think) you could get at that price point.
Strange, in one place on that page it says 4.5 hours but further down it says "With a 6-cell 74Whr battery, expect 10+ hours of battery life" (this is the information I was thinking about)
The [Dell Inspiron i7559-12623RED] (http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-12623RED-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYZ186/) is a similar laptop without conflicting battery information.
Here is what I've been using for a little over 2 years playing WoW and Overwatch alot not sure exactly what purpose you may be wanting it to serve, even has a m.2 slot for a ssd and can add extra ram plus there is even a newer version of it
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PYZ186/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For gaming? I wouldn't. Spend these $50 to get a better SSD- 1 or this - there have been some reports that buying directky from dell gives you the better display.. and you should get some reward points too. Remember to use the coupon
Anyway, the point is - not the I7 version
Hey sorry to bother you but your help would be highly appreciated.

Your views on this laptop? I guess I'll have to stretch my budget to $800
well i suggest the getting the Dell Inspiron i7559-12623RED 15.6 Inch FHD Laptop (6th Generation Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M or the Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK 15.6 Inch FHD Laptop (6th Generation Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M the reason is because the i7 would handle the gaming plus the programming perfectly
GTX 960M, i5, $800
R5 M335, i7, $650
Iris pro 580, i7, $690
thanks, this is much better.
I do have a question though, i found three laptops that look the same, besides the size of the hard drive and hdd memory vs. ssd. So what is the difference between the one you listed, and these two..

hopefully I'm not being dumb, but they are all the same price, and have the same graphics card, i'm genuinely confused.
There's a pretty big jump between last year's gaming laptops and this generation since GTX 10xx laptops are somewhat comparable to desktop performance whereas GTX 9xxm series and below didn't even come close.
This isn't to say that a 960m laptop is bad, it'll run most esport games decently well, but you probably won't be able to expect 1080p60fps on high settings with modern AAA games. With older laptops being blown out of the water by this year's lineup, I think you could expect to get older laptops for even cheaper than the ones you listed. At a glance, something like
https://www.amazon.ca/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-12623RED-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYZ186/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1480114158&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+960m+laptop
I've been using a GTX 760m laptop since 2013 and it actually got me through the first two years fairly well, but it fell short last year when I wanted to play newer titles.
Right now, a Dell Inspiron i7559 running Ubuntu (actually I dual boot with pre-installed Windows 10, but don't really use it for coding). I edit in Vim, and use workspaces in Ubuntu to switch between tasks. Multiple monitors would be nice at some point, but I tend to have to move around a lot at the moment.
The only problem with the Dell is that the wifi driver available for Linux kind of sucks, so I can't do high-bandwidth stuff like stream video unless I reboot into Windows, but that's usually not a problem. Other than that, I really like it.
Definitely buy refurbished if it's cheaper. It's basically the same as new. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZ186 and click offers used and new and then hit the onw that says refurbished
Dell Inspiron i7559-12623BLK 15.6 Inch FHD Laptop (6th Generation Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZ186/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_E9z5ybDHFHS5
This one is in USD, but I imagine you could fine one similarly priced in Europe.
I seems to be, I did a bit of looking and couldn't find anything better. But if it's not too much more money for you you might be better off buying this model of that laptop. It's exactly the same, but it has a 1 terabyte hard drive as well as the 256gb solid state drive. There's also this, which is cheaper, but doesn't have the SSD or the core i7. Same graphics card though.
To play Total War games you need a good video and a quad core CPU. There used to be the Dell 7559 on sale, but apart from that, there really isn't anything else.
For $795 this Dell Inspiron i7559-12623RED laptop far outperforms any laptop that has the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 or AMD Radeon HD 5770 graphics card. It has the gtx 960 graphics card which is much more powerful and newer. This CUK HP Pavilion 15 Gamer Gaming Laptop also the the GTX 960 graphics card and is much cheaper.
Last month I pulled the trigger on the i7559 that was an i5 w/ 1TB HDD + 8GB SSD and FHD. I love it. I originally looked at the 256GB SSD but thought that might be on the small side since the wife and I take a lot of pics.
But I noticed that Amazon is asking $889.99 now. They're high. I paid $729 at the time.
There was another similar laptop that was on my radar. I originally saw this Asus at $799, but the price rose and haven't seen it drop since.
Edit: Hmm.. something's different regarding that Asus. It might have been an i5 when i saw it at $799. I can't see why it would have been an i7 with the rest of those specs at $799. If it was, I was an idiot not to buy it immediatey.
on the budget, i can't find nothing
but a little higher, i would go with this dell:
https://www.amazon.ca/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-12623RED-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYZ186/ref=sr_1_73?ie=UTF8&qid=1466611905&sr=8-73&keywords=i5+nvidia+notebook
I would probably recommend getting something with a dedicated grahpics card for Solid Works and Matlab.
If weight isn't an issue, maybe look into the Dell Inspiron 7559 for $790. It's an excellent all-around laptop that will be extremely powerful for your tasks, with a skylake i7-6700HQ processor, 8gb of ram, 960M graphics card, and 1TB HDD (with 8GB SSD for cache). It also has a good build quality, full 1080p IPS display, backlit keyboard, and long battery life.
Sell your laptop (You should get at least 400 bucks for it).
And buy one of these two: Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK (Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX960M) .
Dell Inspiron i7559-12623RED (6th Generation Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD).
They both pack a decent processor and a 960m which is 40% faster than the gpu in the minimum announced spec, and best thing is they are under 800 so I suppose you can afford.
The difference between both models is storage, one packs a 256GB SSD the other a 1 TB HDD, so if you need lots of storage get the HDD one, else get the SSD one since it is faster.
