Sure! I'll do the best I can...
First I made a pattern of a the Portal Gun. I have a program called MacStitch(kind of like a pixel program) that helps you create your own cross stitch patterns.
Then I bought my materials. You need a hoop, aida cloth , a needle , and colored floss
I placed the cloth into the hoop and then stitched the portal gun by following the pattern I made. /r/crossstitch has a good cross stitch tutorial in the FAQ section. Hope this helps!

I like embroidery needles for handsewing, the eyes are large and the tips are sharp. Go with the biggest needle. Regular all-purpose sewing thread is fine, like Coats & Clark. Choose a color that matches the hat. Both of these items are available at WalMart, fabric stores, etc and will be useful for sewing on buttons and small repairs later. You will also need a pair of shart scissors to cut the thread.

To attach patches, I use what this video calls a blind applique stitch. You might also want to look up a video on how to hand sew for the knots and how to start and end. If the patch has a plastic backing, try to go through the threads around the edge rather than through the plastic.

Good luck!
