I used to do magic and I would not suggest it. It will be rough against the skin. Magicians rope is designed to be tugged and felt rough. It adds to the illusion.

My first rope (for shibari, Japanese rope bondage) was bought at an adult toy store. They have rope in many colors, and it will not slip or bind or chafe. And the ends are already taped off so no fraying. I actually still have that rope and my sub loves it. She refuses to let me get rid of it, since it was her first rope.

They run about 20-30 dollars for 20 ft I think.

Now thickness, you can really use any size rope you want. That being said, if you choose a smaller diameter rope remember to be extra careful around areas with veins and other blood vessels close to the surface. Thinner diameter ropes require more area to distribute the load across the skin. Bigger diameters obviously don't need that, but still should not be wrapped around the wrist once and forgotten. I prefer to always wrap the rope around the wrist a minimum of 2 times and then make a slip knot, even with 1" rope.

Always, ALWAYS have a pair of medical scissors either in your belt or less then arms length away.
