http://www.amazon.com/Dynamic-Strength-Harry-Wong/dp/0865680132 - That guy says yes. Myself, I'm pretty weak and don't have much definition. When I do some of them, I feel muscle fatigue and have noticed a reduction in the old lady waving flab so I'd say yes. I know, not scientific but try this one: put both arms so you have them palm up, thumbs pressed against your hips. Then one arm at a time, push your arm straight up, palm facing forward. Bring the arm down in front of you like a swimming stroke, all the way down to your hips and return your hand to the starting pose. All while tensing every muscle involved, so do it slow and with a lot of effort behind it. That book said doing something like 12 of these a day as the advanced.
I'm skeptical but when you feel muscle fatigue from something as simple as that, it tells me it is working.
