Just like others have said strap them in the canoe though my group goes a step farther and we use a plastic tube to help protect them. You can get the stupid expensive rod holders or just go to Michaels or any craft store and get a large telescoping tube art protector as far as the reels just pack those in the pack in a plastic Tupperware container in your pack... as far as rods go I know Eagle claw makes a cheap rod that breaks down in 4 parts it suites my dad well for some fishing. It's not bad but I do like my pflueger carbon fiber rod similar to this my understanding is that the rod I use is an older model they don't make any more (I'll check my model number later)
