I'm going to be on the road for work starting next week and I had the exact same idea, I have a Node 202 build ready to go and I ordered a large duffel/backpack. You could definitely swing a smaller bag but I'll be carrying more than the tower in it.

There is a cutout behind the motherboard for the M.2 slot, I even have a heatsink on my SSD and it still fits. I bought the case without a PSU and got a Corsair SF450, not a fan of bronze rated power supplies and Johnnyguru highly recommends the SF450 and 650 (single rail and easily meet their rated wattage). Running a 65W Haswell i7 and an R9 Nano, no issues power wise and if I remember right the 1070 pulls similar or less wattage to the Nano.

Also if you're looking at coolers the Cryorig C7 is one of the best, and it's looking like the Thermalright AXP-100 Muscle is the highest performing air cooler that does fit depending on the board layout but you need to remove the dust filter above it or get a thinner fan (Scythe Kaze Jyu Slim 100mm). Personally I'd just get a Cryorig C7 and be happy with it, it's a great little cooler and should have no problem keeping temps under control with how efficient the latest gen is.

If you're looking for more ideas you can mount internal usb ports for controller and mouse dongles along with running wireless antennas inside too (3M double sided tape is mans greatest invention).

Just got an Eagle Creek duffel (60L) that I plan on using as an end-all-be-all for any length of travel or daypack. Folds up into a square, has backpack straps and a "No Matter What" warranty.
