Last night there was a pogo meet up in my city. Lures and poke stops everywhere. Since I am battery God I shared my extra 50,000 mah with who ever needed a charge. I felt like a hero.

So my total mAh is 62,400, giving me about 30 charges from 0. If you ask for a recommendation I will tell you go with EC. It's been nothing but perfect to me, has 3 ports and a flashlight.

The powerbank I've had since last year is 22,400mAh and costs $35. It's amazingly useful when travelling. Never have to worry about having to conserving power on my phone and can play games and watch videos to my heart's content.

Buy a couple 22k mah external batteries from Amazon 30$ each. Two of these fully charged will charge an iPhone from 0-100% about 16-18 times, at least. They take alllll night to recharge but last multiple days and charge a phone very fast. I'd say get all of the updates you can (OS & apps) and turn off any notifications. It was really annoying having message notifications popping up while using the headset. If you want to get serious about it, you might want to pick up some accessories. This is what my kit consists of right now:

   In addition to the headset & phone, it was about $150 to get all of the accessories I wanted. Pricey, but cheaper than an Xbox or Playstation at least! Plus all of the stuff is multi-functional...like I can use the Bluetooth transmitter for listening to audio wirelessly, or the gamepad also doubles as a clip to turn your phone into kind of a Gameboy for non-VR games, which is cool (also works with iOS & Windows, apparently). The Gear VR doesn't have pass-through for charging or headphones (edit: scratch that, consumer version has (1) a charging port on the bottom, (2) a volume rocker on the side, and (3) can just keep the front cover off & plug headphones directly into the phone), which is why I got the battery & some extra cables, plus the Bluetooth module. At home I use my earbuds for audio, but on-the-go I use headphones because I show the Gear VR off a lot & don't want people's earwax on my buds.
   
   Also be prepared to pay for some apps; unfortunately the games are not as cheap as most other mobile games. Like, Adventure Time is five dollars - and it's awesome - but it's only two levels. So you're definitely at the "early adopter" stage of VR where there's not a ton of stuff available and it's all relatively expensive (I've payed less for some Steam games that have lasted many more hours than some of the stuff I've paid $10 or $15 for on the Oculus app store). I've spent at least fifty bucks already between apps, games, and movies, and not all of them have been worth it, so read up on the reviews & watch some Youtube before you part with your money because not everything is worth the asking price.

Not a lot of cheap options at 20,000mAh. It doesn't help most of RAVPower's models are currently out of stock.

USB-A power banks at that capacity don't run much cheaper. I've reviewed the EC Technology 22400, which costs $33. See my review here. Solid USB-A power bank, doesn't do anything fancy. If you don't have a USB-C to USB-A cable you'll need to buy one.

I just got this one specifically for the game. I had been thinking about getting something before but PoGo sealed the deal. This pack is large, but it fits perfectly into my pocket where my phone would be if I wasn't playing. It probably has 4-5 full phone charges, I have yet to get the pack lower then 50%. You'll probably be tired way before the pack runs out.

This pack lasts days for me! I'm not sure how much down time you'll have between your 16+ hour days in order to charge the pack back up (If I recall, it recommends 14 hours~ for a full charge), but for a regular 3DS' 1500 mAh battery, this pack would be equivalent to almost 15 full charges...

At about 60 bucks, its a steal. Only weighs about 2 pounds, is a little bigger than a standard TV remote, and it's a whopping 22400mAh. To put in perspective, a full iPhone battery is about 1900mAh. We had a group of 5 last year, and all topped up our phones batteries each day, charged our GoPros and digital cameras, one iPad, and portable speakers starting from Thursday, and still had about 10-15% juice left by Sunday.

Flagpoles like this one are also great for beautifying your spot and making it easy to find. This is the one I bought 2 years ago, and it's held up, but I didn't extend it fully last year due to high winds. It's not too expensive, so it could be worth your while.

In fact, here's my recommendation that will avoid screwing up your RPi.

First, use an RPi A+. It's got the smallest form factor, one of the cheapest, and easiest to swap parts out without buying extra dongles.

Use this Fadecandy board. It does require LIGHT soldering.

These LEDs are nice if the lights are separate entities and they need to be in unique places. They are VERY bright and in my house, they're actually painful to look at when they're at full brightness. This string is a string of 50, but you can cut them to only be the number of LEDs that you require. If you only need 10 LEDs, then fine! Cut the first 10 away and use them. At full brightness, expect the full string to use 3A of power. 10 LEDs would draw about 600 mA at full brightness.

These LEDs are nice if your use requires them to all be thin and in-line with each other.

Buy these and your job will be MUCH easier connecting power to everything. You can then split a 5v power source (with enough amperage) to both units and you no longer have to worry about trying to draw too much from the Pi's USB.

A battery backup like this provides 22,400 mAh, so the Pi running PEGGED OUT, will draw about 240 mA and last about 93 hours, optimally. You won't actually get that. I'd assume 75 hours.

But then you've got to worry about the LED draw. The entire battery allows 2.4 Amps of power in total, so you're restricted to about 2.1 Amps after the Pi gets its cut. This means approximately 35 LEDs at the most.

Under full load, that battery pack will last, optimally, approximately 9 hours, 20 minutes.

You won't get optimal power draw because SOME is always lost during transfer as heat or whatever else. I would assume, on a bad day, about 5-6 hours because LEDs typically are not full bright white most of the time and the RPi won't be pegged the entire time.

Combine that with the USB battery that can be swapped out if you want to, you can have battery as long as you want.

22,400 mAh portable charger for $32. This is by far the one to get in my opinion. Has enough for like 5-7 full phone charges.

This solar panel might be overkill, but first hand experience says it works wonderfully. I'd much rather have more solar power than necessary to accommodate cloudy days.

You may also want to consider a spare power bank as well. Something like this battery when paired with that panel above, you should never run out of juice for you phone, and tablet if you have one.

You might also consider a 12v charging dongle that you can tap into the main battery on the bike. Would be considerably cheaper and logistically easier to charge on the bike while riding.

Well, to get the typical response out of the way, "Put your damn phone away and enjoy what's around you!"

As a more useful answer, both of those options are pretty damn expensive for very little usefulness. Their main use is as a battery with USB outputs, that happens to recharge (very slowly) via solar. Because they're both batteries, you need to know their capacities, which are 2300mAh and 2200mAh respectively. That's about the same size as a typical cell phone battery nowadays, so you can likely expect to fully charge only one completely dead phone per "full charge" off the solar battery. Each of these devices will likely take a full day (or even two!) to recharge, so I wouldn't expect to be able to charge everybody's phone in camp everyday.

For less than $35, you could just get a USB battery that holds 10x the amount of charge as your solar options and you can charge it via a generator (find friends and leave it there?) in a few hours.

Granted, if you don't want to go that route and really need solar, I'd recommend getting a "full sized" kit from a reputable brand. I personally love Renogy products, as they're made in the US and are typically very competitive on pricing. Something like this kit would get you 7 times the amount of solar power than your REI one and you can connect it directly to your car battery. From there, you can just use the USB port on the charge controller or run a cheap $15 inverter in your cigarette lighter port (or from the battery itself) and you've got yourself an easy way to charge your devices as well as the ability to build onto your existing setup in the future (just add more panels!). Definitely some good points, I had no idea a battery management system was so expensive. I had also considered using multiple cell phone style power banks that output 5V and simply wiringing a few (maybe 4) of them in series to avoid using a step up/down converter. Get yourself an off-brand (cheap) high-capacity external charger. This one usually lasts me through 3-day festivals, no problem.

This one was recommended by someone on this sub who was very proud of their mobile power and carried around 50,000mAh.

I bought it (this one alone holds 22,400mAh) and it's worked flawlessly for me. I've let other people charge from my spare slots and still haven't run out of juice before getting tired and going home. Just make sure you've got a belt or draw string on your pants.

Get a battery pack and a USB charging cable instead. No bulk to your console, no worries about unregulated third party hardware replacements or warranties, compatible with circle pad or other handles and cases, you can get ridiculous things like my 22,000mah battery (12.5x the capacity of an XL, 17x standard 3DS, but the nature of charging means you'll only effectively utilize 75% or so of the raw capacity) for $50, and it works for anything else that charges over USB.

Pros: lasts an obscene amount of time and has a flashlight.

Cons: pretty big, has some weight to it. Not something you want to carry in your pocket, but excellent for traveling. There are much smaller batteries out there too.

I like it enough that after my first one got stolen I bought it again. Unfortunately it doesn't have fast charging, but it has 3 outputs and massive capacity.

So, normally I would totally recommend an Anker brand. I have a lot of their products, but with regard to this specific battery pack, I've had issues.

In the past when I owned this model, it does not correctly adjust the draw it will put on a USB port, and will try to draw more than 2.1 AMPs on a port that isn't capable of more than that. I know this because I had both a personal and work macbook, and on both machines it will always cause the port to go into failsafe mode -- where it shuts down to prevent damage from something pulling way too many amps.

I also had an Anker charger, which I still use, which would go into failsafe mode itself when the battery was charing on it.

As a last resort, I even had Anker refund me and I bought a second battery pack on Amazon, thinking I got a lemon -- same exact result across both MacBooks and the Anker charger. So just be careful with these batteries, as you may run into problems.

I bought this about 2 years ago ($32 for 22400mAh), it works great for charging my phone, iPad, and 3DS on the go. It's a bit hefty in weight but it was really worth it for my trip to California when I was constantly out and about. It has the iPad port for 2.4A but I assume the Switch will draw less than that from the actual port since it uses USB-C.

Haven't had any issues with it.

If you are on a tight budget getting a Yi or Yi 4k is not a bad decision at all.

Most people simply replace/overlay the original audio with music later.

If you though want to do a Vlog-style travel video a X3000 will not only give you better audio but also a high quality and stabilized video.

One advantage, which bith the Yi-cameras don't have is, that the Sony is splashproof and dustproof, which means you can use it without the case during rain/ at the beach without the risk of damaging your camera and still get good audio. With the Yi you nearly always have to use the case when you are outdoor, so it would render the already bad audio useless anyways.

It looks like the Olympus TG-4 battery is only 1350mAh and it can be recharged via USB (directly in the camera).

Keep in mind that you're sacrificing portability, but if you're sporting a Camelbak then it won't really matter. Plus, if you're camping then it's also handy for those with you over the weekend that may need it. I personally have this external, but the one I link caught my eye on a deal site and thought I would share.

Not exactly relevant to your travel specifically but I highly recommend an external battery when traveling internationally. This battery will charge a cell phone 10-12 times. These kinds of batteries have really been a life saver.

Edit: Use the middle port. They are rated at 1amp, 2amp, and 2.4 amp. The tablet is rated at 2.1amp max!

10,000 mAh is a pretty good capacity. It's hard to actually find a battery with a 100,000 mAh capacity, and those that you can find are huge. This is one of the smallest true 20,000 mAh batteries on amazon and it's six inches long.

I bought mine (RavPower) on a thanksgiving deal. I couldn't find the sameone anymore for that price in Amazon. But here is one in that price range. Have not heard the brand before but reviews are good.

While I didn't buy any of these particularly for the Switch, would I be good to go with any of these? What can I expect from them? To slowly charge to the point where it just prolongs the switch's battery from 3 hours to say, 4, or 5? To quickly charge while playing? Thanks

I bought this one couple months back...it was on sale for $19.99.

It doesn't charge fast compared to using the Note 5s AC adapter....but that's a ton of juice for that price. Multiple posts and a built in flash light and it looks clean compared to others. Size is much larger than most but you said someone else will be charging with you so....

I like mine..think you'll be happy with it too...especially if you can get it for $20.
