This is not accurate. Zionism predates WWII, and the early Zionists who colonized Palestine actually resented the holocaust victims. This is pretty complex history, and you need to read up on it more.
This book talks about that particular aspect.
And they sure weren't "given it" They were offered a two state solution after WWII, but instead they attacked British soldiers and sent thousands of Palestinians into exile in Jordan as refugees.
Oh, and Israel started those wars, not the Arabs.
