Pretty much others have covered it, so I figured I'd recommend a protein powder. I really like Vega Sport Protein, 30g per scoop. Loads of other good stuff in there. I've only had the Vanilla and Berry flavors but they're both really good. I drink it right after working out, usually just blended with flax milk or soy milk that has low sugar, but I'm not trying to put on weight at the moment. People have different opinions on timing of macros but that's just when I prefer to drink it. Add peanut butter, oats, banana, berries, etc to bulk it up for weight gain.

I'd recommend googling Lex Fitness for advice, he's not vegan so some of his specific food advice won't apply but the broad concepts and science on how the body works still do. He also has great workout advice and tutorials. Work your way up, obviously, but he has an emphasis on form which is really important when you're starting out. I'd recommend watching videos from the past year or so first, the quality improved a lot compared to older videos and the info is more up to date.
Also, Lenny & Larry Cookies rock! Vegan, high protein. They always have discounts on their site too.
Get a food scale and use MyFitnessPal, helps a lot to know exactly what you're eating. I'll link to the one I use, I like it a lot. Hope this all helps!

The fact that you can't really choose your own groceries does present an extra challenge, but it's still totally possible for you to lose weight. Ultimately, weight loss comes down to maintaining a caloric deficit. I highly recommend trying MyFitnessPal to keep track of your calories. You put in your starting weight and your goal and tell it how quickly you want to lose the weight (e.g., a pound per week), and it tells you how many calories you can eat per day. Record every single thing you eat (or drink) - even if it's just a handful of crackers or something, because that stuff can add up to way more than you'd think.

Weight loss depends primarily on diet, but being more active can help too. Just make sure you don't overestimate how many calories you're burning through exercise. MapMyFitness is great for calculating calories burned through walking and running, and it syncs with MyFitnessPal.

I also highly recommend getting a food scale for measuring portions. I have this one. It's cheap and it works great. Measure everything - don't estimate. You'll probably find that a "serving" of a lot of the foods you eat is smaller than you thought.

As long as you consistently consume fewer calories than your body uses, you will lose weight. You may not see the difference on the scale immediately, but if you stick with it the weight will come off.

I have this one and love it, I had a slightly less expensive one I was using for a couple months but I like this one better since it also has mL and fl oz which my other one did not have
