If you only need it for the HDMI port (and don't really care about performance), get something like this. Or just get the cheapest one you can find with an HDMI port.

PS: You probably will need to uninstall the on board graphics driver after installing the new card.

I've got the NVidia gtx 210 in my build and it works fine. I do need to use the GraphicsEnabler=Yes flag to get graphics after boot, but other than that it works fine. They're available at about $20 used here http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Passive-Graphics-01G-P3-1313-KR/dp/B004KABG1I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457841359&sr=8-1&keywords=gtx+210

I've had good luck with a GeForce 210 and and the open-source nouveau drivers (running in Arch, YMMV). The 210 is recent enough to have good support from Nouveau, but low-end enough that the cards are ~$30 and draw so little power that they can be passively cooled.

something like this should work. Nvidia says it's max resolution is 2560x1600

thanks. any recommendations for a first time gpu? would something like this be good to learn on? https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Passive-Graphics-01G-P3-1313-KR/dp/B004KABG1I/ref=sr_1_7?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1497840386&sr=1-7&keywords=gpu

I know its only 1gb but right now i'm more interested in learning than truly turning a profit and i'm not exactly sure where to start.

> producers of low-end, non-gaming PCs, Ryzen may not prove so attractive as they will need to add bespoke graphics hardware to their builds

Are people still building desktops without GPUs? Even at my last job in a corporate office we had a dedicated GPUs. And for a media server wouldn't it be cheaper/easier to just by a raspberry pi (or old laptop if you're linux-adverse).

If your buying a $129 CPU (price of the cheapest AMD Ryzen) why wouldn't you at least buy a $30 GPU?

Well, back in 2010 you could play with a GPU but with a CPU ddr2 motehrboard 4gb ram. But now to play games like Phantom Forces or Basewars: The Land at 2012 you at least needed a Geforce 210, just 30 bucks. They aren't doing it wrong, they are updating the game. But I think that when Geforce 1000 series comeout the 700 series will drop in prices, right now the 740 2gb's at 80 bucks. Making upgrades easier.
