Setup was a bit difficult. Purely because I have the 2015 rMBP 13", which is notorious for boot issues with eGPU's. Check this page which has compatibility reports on all Thunderbolt Macs: https://support.bizon-tech.com/hc/en-us/articles/210709789-Mac-compatibility-list
For other Macs it is as easy as downloading drivers and restarting (Windows). And for the Mac setup (if you want it) its as easy as installing eGPU script on the Mac side and rebooting (after you disable SIP). The 1070 won't fit unless you buy a PCIe raiser cable, and an external PSU. However the 1060 will fit if you get the single fan version. My rig is currently what is in my flair (i5-3470, 750Ti, 8GB), my MoBo is an Intel DB75EN, PSU is 600W.

Will that 1060 work? Is there anything I should be aware of, something I should get or upgrade first before purchasing a new GPU? I'm only interested in 1080p gaming, no VR and no 4k.

I've been holding out for a good deal on an RX 480 8 GB or GTX 1060 6GB, is this or this the lowest or close to the lowest I will be able to find either of them? I'm considering holding out until Friday for a better deal then jumping on one of these if one doesn't come up.

Personally, I have had some problems with temperatures. I just posted a question about it here, so I don't know anything yet. I'm getting around 85 degrees under load, with the fan at 100%, but even then, the noise levels haven't bothered me all that much.

I guess so? Honestly, when I got it, I was paying more attention to the fan and cooling than the RAM speed.

Just finished assembling my first build with the help of a friend and my MB is giving me some beep codes that don't seem to correspond to any that are listed on the website (for some reason, the manual doesn't have them listed).

Whenever I turn the computer on, it will proceed to emitt 5 LONG beeps then shut off and boot up again just to beep 5 more times. I am 99% sure it is long beeps because they last just over a second or so each. There is just no way those are short beeps. I have already tried booting without ram and with only 1 of the 2 sticks of ram each. I made sure they were seated properly also. I am just completely out of ideas and the internet seems to have no help.

I can’t speak for any other place that you’re finding cheaper cards. But if you can get a brand new 3gb for $180 then I would do that. Especially if you intend to upgrade gpu within the next couple years.

Also, if the 3GB/6GB price gap is small FOR SURE go for the 6GB. $10-$30 price difference, go 6GB. I only went 3GB because at the time I needed a small card and couldn't source a 6GB variant for anything less than $50 more than the 3GB that I found and I only game at 1080p, probably won't step into 1440 for awhile, 4K either.

Only new card available in that price range in GTX 1060 3G or 6G. I would get some better priced listing like this and try get them to price match. Since you are buying multiple items they may be more willing to price match.

Hi HellaPizza. I'm not a buildsmith, and you should wait for one of them to come around and take a look. Just some food for thought for now:

Since you'll be streaming and currently have a processor of only modest performance, our gains in the streaming department will be limited. Based on your budget, we're looking at a tradeoff between upgrading your processor and your GPU, or just upgrading your GPU. Your experience while playing and not streaming will improve significantly more if you upgrade the GPU alone. Depending on your streaming audience, you may be able to work around the CPU demands of streaming by doing something like using the QuickSync encoder of the iGPU to handle encoding to stream, but this is lower quality than CPU encoding. YMMV.

The best possible card within your budget is a GTX 1070. However, that's not necessary for you gaming at 1080p/60Hz. If a monitor upgrade is in your future, consider going for a 1070. You're generally looking at a 30-40% increase in FPS moving up to a 1070 from a 1060. See a comparison here. I can't find any good benchmarks for PUBG, but, if you trust this guy, this video indicates you'll be satisfied with a 1060 and performance is roughly as-expected. From my browsing, it doesn't look inordinately CPU heavy, so despite our weaker CPU performance we can probably skate by (we're not doing better within your budget, so it's a moot point).

If you want to get a few years out of it, well, no one can tell the future but maybe go for that 1070 so you can stagger your next upgrade (you're getting a new CPU, MOBO, and RAM next, ~$400-~500, a couple years down the line).

I don't recommend getting an ITX sized card or a blower-style card unless you absolutely have to for design reasons. They tend to be loud and hot. I don't believe saving a bit and saddling yourself with a hairdryer represents a good value but it's my job to present you with the best reasonable options. Maybe you don't care and you'd rather save $15.

If we wanted to upgrade your CPU as well, we'd put a 4790k in your current board to improve streaming performance, you'd have $60 left, and we'd be up the creek without a paddle. So, no-go there.

Description of Problem: I cannot turn on Instant Replay/record/broadcast using GeForce Experience. Everything seems like I should be able to, but when I click "Turn On", nothing happens. Literally. The box with the options Turn On and Customize goes away and the screen doesn't change. There's no error message or anything of the sort. No response from the system. The same thing occurs with the other three Share features.

Troubleshooting: I've ensured that I am using Windows Aero, have performed clean installs of BOTH NVidia drivers and GeForce Experience multiple times, have used DDU to clean the system of all NVidia registries and still nothing helped.
It should be noted that I have had this issue for awhile now, and have upgraded my GPU (used to be a 760), motherboard, and CPU cooler since first encountering it.

I specifically bought this new GPU so I could use the Share features because I thought my old GPU might've been faulty, and my CPU isn't strong enough to stream using OBS at a high enough fps for me to be comfortable with. Anyone have other suggestions for me to try?

Is this ok to do as it would cost less? Would this still provide good performance and a big upgrade on the current rig? Or would you recommend just upgrading fully?

NEVER, and I mean NEVER, get a refrence card, Nvidia or Amd. Refrence cards have the shittiest coolers on the planet and will make your card thermal throttle if you don't keep the fan speed at 100% under load. If you can afford it, the evga 1060 is a great, compact card with good temps. The 1060 performs better than the rx 480 and if your gonna be gaming at 1080 and (most likely) not modding stuff like skyrim, 6gb of vram is all you need.

Probably the GPU. I don't play on pc so I don't know how much the CPU bottlenecks but it'd be a safe bet to go with a GPU. Unfortunately, $250 isn't all that much to get a GPU, but for $260, you can get a single fan EVGA 1060 6GB.

Seriously though, upgrade your CPU when you get a chance. You're seven generations behind.

This is my current build
I’m looking to upgrade and my first thought is looking at the graphics card or the processor since I primarily use it for gaming and photo editing. My budget is $250-300 and looking on my own I was thinking about the GTX 1060 or the Intel i7 7700k but I wanted to get some input before making any purchases.
