I have both a PC and a PS4. Facts are facts like /u/Hello_Hurricane pointed out. The truth is that PC's have more graphics potential and the consoles are not nearly up to what a high end PC rig can handle. While the increase in performance is not always linear or can be cost prohibitive to some, it doesn't mean they don't exist just because you say so.
I've wrangled up some sources to educate you as you seem ignorant on the subject.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask or contribute to the dialogue beyond circlejerking your position on the internet.

PS4 Breakdown, it's a modified HD 7870 in there

PC GPU Hierarchy Chart

Link to Amazon Page for HD 7870, 8th tier of hierarchy

Link to Amazon Page for the GTX 1080, Top tier of hierarchy

EDIT: I didn't even talk about the min system requirements for NMS, I can't believe it! The minimum GPU recommended is a GTX 480 which is one tier below the consoles coming in at 9th tier of gpu available on the market. Consoles barely meet the minimum system requirements for this game.

I included this one even though it's not EVGA or Asus because it's new and very competitively priced when taking into account the recent rise in GPU prices. IMO taking a few hours to paint over the yellow plastic to save $100-200 is a worthy investment. Hope this helps

I am confused by your comment. The 1080 does support Direct X 12, No?

I'm extending them, one on 1440p, other on 1080. I just tried messing with the resolution and scaling of each monitor individually, the scaling didnt change anything, but adjusting the resolution of the problem monitor caused it to refresh and the line went away, even after going back to my normal resolution. I'm just not sure how to make that fix permanent. So to clarify, the issue happens when extending the monitors. I just toggle between mirror and extend as one method to get it working again.

My display settings revert back to extended when I restart, and graphics card is a 1080 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GAI64GO/)

and I'll go double check on my drivers. thank you for your input!

All of the mid-range cards are way overpriced right now so if price isn't an issue you may have to go high-end. The 1070 is about the same price for the 1080 so just go for the 1080 if you can.

u/pcnoob2002 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

If you are looking at that 980ti for 670 USD, you would get more performance for cheaper with this 1080.

Link

u/thegreatsquirreldini · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

It means you'll spend more money in the long run, but if you're planning on doing a full new system build in the near-ish future anyway, and if you can get a pair of them for $600, I'd say go for it. Honestly SLI 980Ti's aren't exactly weak either. They'll be about the same performance as a single 1080 so long as the game supports SLI.

Hold on I'm pretty sure 1080s are down to about $600 for an overclocked version. If they're the same price I would DEFINITELY go for a single 1080.

I would also recommend the EVGA card, they're known for having excellent customer service, including a 90 day trade-up policy which I suspect you will want to take advantage of if the rumors of upcoming the 1080Ti are true. However, rather than the founder's edition that you have linked to, this one is a more powerful, more recent version card which is cheaper because the founder's edition was priced 100$ higher simply due to limited initial quantities available.

Ultimately, picking a graphics card is about researching the specs they offer, looking at benchmarks to compare them, and looking into the company's reputations.

u/HentaiGodGG · 2 pointsr/buildapc

In terms of brands EVGA, ASUS and MSI are the ones I'd recommend.

u/x_Sligh_x · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Any reason you're choosing old tech? The 4xxx series chips and LGA1150 sockets are old, and no longer used. Why not just opt for a i7 6700k and a z170 board, they're practically the same price. RAM needs to be DDR4, and will be a bit pricier, but you can save $70 by choosing the EVGA 1080, and pay $609. Otherwise it looks fine.

Edit: Here is the card I have and would get. Cheaper, too.

Just bought a 4K TV, GTX 970 can't handle all games in 4K. Decided to return it for refund (is the deal still on the table?) and upgrade to a GTX 1080.

Anyway, when is the perfect time to return so that I can have money by Cyber Monday or Black Friday? Also, do I have to adjust my PC to a certain setting to use the integrated Intel graphic card?

Also, what is the difference between the gajillion types of GTX 1080s? eg this¹, this², and this³.

Finally, is Zotac good? Or is it better to spend a bit more for the more popular brands? Good?. What about this?

  1. When's the best time to return so that I'd have the money by Cyber Monday?
  2. How can I switch to Intel graphics so that I can use the PC without any graphic card?
  3. What's the difference between the aforementioned types of GPUs?
  4. Can you recommend Zotac?

Edit: Here's my build. Is there any particular GPU you can recommend based on it? Any notes on the upgrade?

Which SLI bridge should I get for the X99A SLI Plus? If possible I'd like to maximize the space between the cards, but I don't know how to determine the possible spacing configurations.

EDIT: I'd like to put two of these in, but these sizes don't really appear to match up to the three horizontal spaces along the bottom of the motherboard, if that's supposed to be where you put the cards in.

EDIT2: Actually, it looks like it comes with a "sli cable" judging by the manual.

>EVGA 1080s are still hotter and now louder than every other competing brand

That's quite the opposite of what I've been reading. Reviews everywhere are praising it into heaven. Youtubers, Newegg, Amazon... But I have to admit I have not opened my box yet, so I cannot yet give judgement on that myself. What kind of temperatures are you getting on your 1080 SC? Do you have any of the fixes applied?

The way I see it, EVGA just dropped the ball on their VRM cooling. They do not make contact with any heat dissipating surfaces AT ALL. In such a circumstance, it's normal for them to heat up immensely. VRM's always have a tendency to get hot. If i'm not mistaken they're often rated to work indefinitely at up to 125°c(!), though that definitely varies between different sorts. Everyone is panicking and losing their head. But if the cooling pads disperse the heat through the larger surface areas of the cooling pad itself and the huge metal backplate, then what's there to worry about? None of the fixed cards have shown any issues so far (please, do correct me if I'm wrong).

u/Seaverett · 1 pointr/RandomActsOfGaming

Holy balls, this giveaway is amazing. Congrats on the profit, OP! I'll probably have to upgrade my 1080p monitor to preferably 1440p one if I win but that's for later and chances are slim. Getting ahead of myself already lol. Ah well, if anything, I'm entering for the thrill of it! Thanks OP!

A new GTX 1070 runs for $435 on Amazon. That in mind, if my card is valued ~$200 used, I think it'd be reasonable to say a GTX 1070 is worth (just based off the sales I've seen ~$350-$370 here on this subreddit) my GTX 1060 + $150 (~$350 value).

As for the GTX 1080, I did a little more digging and found they run a bit steeper used. I see it here on Amazon for $580, and I didn't look hard but didn't see /r/hardwareswap sales with prices sold still listed. I'm guessing ~$450-570 is probably what they went for (don't know)? So, if that were the case then a GTX 1080 would be worth my GTX 1060 + $250 (~$450 value).

Does any of that seem incorrect + the prices I edited? Let me know! Thanks.

EDIT: EVGA 1080 link was what I was going for. Wrong manufacturer.

u/Seppic · 1 pointr/buildapc

How in the world do you all pick a graphics card? I'm going to be purchasing a 1080 I decided, so that part is out of the way. But there are so many different versions from so many vendors. I think I'm pretty set on this one. I've had success with EVGA in the past. There is a similar ASUS STRIX one out there that is also getting good reviews.

So what ultimately leads to your decision making? Is it brand loyalty and some other small features you prefer?

u/needreccomendations · 1 pointr/buildapc

Is this a good 1080? Good meaning price, no major defects, good customer service from manufacturer if something goes wrong etc

Pros:

  1. Cooler GPU for overclocking, which equates to more headroom for overclocking.
  2. Lower noise emissons.
  3. The ability to redirect heat away from the inside of the case, preventing GPU/CPU heat contamination between the two, so it could potentially lower CPU temps.

    Cons:
  4. More expansive in terms of price to next GPU up. Eg. Aircooled GTX 1070 = $460
    Liquid cooled GTX 1070 = $580
    Aircooled GTX 1080 = $600
So in short, you would want an AIO card, the amount you would spend on a AIO 1070, you're better off getting a 1080.
  5. Possibility of a leak.
  6. Pump noise can be obnxious to certain people.
u/Icemasta · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Price has dropped since release, GTX 1080 8GB 1733mhz clock founder's edition766$. GTX 1080 8GB 1860mhz clock 760$. Base version blower GTX 1080 8GB 1733mhz clock 660$.

No idea why the higher clock speed is cheaper, might be because the first one is a Founders.

Anyways, price was just inflated in Canada due to demand, it has since gone back to regular prices across the board.

Forgot to add price: $662.99

Just for reference link to amazon one here: https://www.amazon.ca/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-08G-P4-6286-KR/dp/B01GAI64GO

Sure am, can I ask about something, is it worth buying the card you chose or should i maybe save a few euro if I went with this?

u/Alpha188 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I am pretty sure any european Amazon shop ships everywhere in the EU for free. This is a pretty high end 1080 model and is just 50€ more than the 1070 you chose. Or this 1070 is 60€ less, but it's not available right now.

Is $100 price increase something I can find? what about this EVGA GTA 1080? is it a direct replacement for the one I mentioned above? I don't mind spending a little extra. It's been my dream for a long time to build a PC and now is when I have the opportunity to do it.

If you intend on gaming in 4K in the near future, don't get a temporary card. Just go for a card that can do the 4K and it will get you your 1080p60. I would suggest something similar to this, or if you want you could go for a GTX 1080 Ti. Both of them should do fine for 1080p60 at max settings (or close to it) and they will work for 4K.

It isn't worth it to throw your money away at a temporary card, just buy something that will meet your end goal to begin with. You should look into the performance of different cards at the settings you want in the games you intend on playing.

Looks like Amazon raised the price of the FTW to $699.99, just a heads up (currently unable to purchase at that price however as it is out of stock).

Ah thanks for that link, I've wishlisted it for future use. If you don't mind me asking, I thought that aftermarket versions generally had better cooling solutions than the FE? Why not just go with those?

P.S. Do you happen to know what the differences between the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB FTW DT GAMING ACX 3.0 and the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB FTW GAMING ACX 3.0 are?
Both can be found https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Adjustable-Graphics-08G-P4-6286-KR/dp/B01GAI64GO/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1469881675&sr=1-1&keywords=EVGA+GTX+1080 , but only the DT version ships to where I am. Thanks.

I'd go with EVGA. There's nothing inherently wrong with the Strix cards (they're one of the best), but I don't see much of a reason to pay $40 more for the OC version to get the same clock speeds.

u/cryogenicravioli · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

No. Checked their website and there isn't an option to purchase. On Amazon they are something like $850+ all the way into the $1200s at some points.

Edit: I swear to god EVGA just made them available for purchase within the last 48 hours to make me look like an idiot.

Edit 2: Here are the insane prices from amazon.

Edit 3: Apparently you can purchase the FTW and Classified whenever, but SC seems to be out of stock. Wonderful.

Value honestly is really important. It is not about what you can afford but how you spend your money. I can buy dozens of 1080s anytime I want but I don't really like NVDA over pricing stuff. Liek wut is this ???https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-GAMING-Graphics-08G-P4-6286-KR/dp/B01GAI64GO/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1466521022&sr=1-5&keywords=gtx+1080
Just getting what I need right now at a good price point is the important thing.

u/Silent_NSA_Recorder · 1 pointr/xboxone

Yup. It was this item.

But as someone above said, they've shut it down because of the exploits.
