Well, for some positively bizarre reason, prisons are not very willing to share their blueprints and details about their security measures. Oddly, most searches for prison design are waylaid by references to Prison Architect. I have not had much luck in looking up the blueprints of modern prisons, but have had luck finding prisons that have closed since ~ the 1970s. The thing about prisons: they differ depending on where you are, and local attitudes. Some Scandanavian prisons could almost be mistaken for cramped hotel rooms, some old prisons in Britain retain their brutalist designs.

Most of my inspiration is taken from an author named Norman Johnston, most specifically Forms of Constraint: A History of Prison Architecture, which sells in most places for ~$25 USD. This page has a handful of pictures of prison designs in the book.

The U.S department of Justice has also released a PDF titled Jail Design Guide, A Resource for Small and Medium-Sized Jails. Although it includes multi-floor jails, it is salient to Prison Architect. The National Institute of Corrections has also issued the Jail Design Review Handbook, which covers many of the same bases as the previous document, but also includes information on day-to-day activities.

I'll check out some resources at the library tomorrw, but before I go, here are the cell block blueprints for Alcatraz. Hope this helped!
