I have this device, which has WiFi camera and can throw treats from the app:

I think you might be overthinking this.

You really don't want to desensitize the beep and I assume your dog goes through those doors normally and you don't want them to be scared of them.

I would suggest you get some chicken wire and tape it to the door temporarily. Your dog won't like scratching the chicken wire and hopefully will stop pretty quickly. You can then remove the chicken wire.

Another idea is getting something like this:

You can interact with your dog while you aren't at home and potentially reduce the anxiety.

Something like this will help. Video, speaker, and you can send out treats. Also detects when a dog is barking and alerts you.

There are these pet cameras they look like febreeze automatic time sprayers, set one up in every room of the house and you’ve got security on your phone to see what’s going on

Could be used for a disguise camera, maybe someone is coming down from the balcony and grabbing bits while nobody is there

I wouldn't judge someone in your shoe's. Saving a pet you love that is. We have Norwegian Elkhounds and love them to death. That said, my wife spoils them far more than I ever would. She bought a Furbo when it was still on Kickstarter for about half the price and has a subscription to Barkbox.

Me? I give them Milkbone treats and buy stuffed animals at flea markets or Goodwill for 50 cents each. But hey, it makes her happy and honestly, they're great dogs. Certainly don't have to worry about intruders.

Now if one of them came down with cancer? IDK. Depends on a number of factors. Like are they in pain, what's the likely outcome, etc.

I think THESE are the silliest things ever, but if you or your bro have the funds, I'd recommend getting one.

There used to be iPet Companion that allowed users to play with shelter kitties remotely, but their website/company seems to have died.
