I use one of these...

It lets to turn things on or off in 30 minute intervals. It makes a bit of a clicking noise when when the power turns on. So far it seems to have helped prevent battery bloat in any of my phones.

Bit late to the party, but it can also help if you put their light on a timer (like a cheap plug-in one) so it always comes on and goes off at the same time. Makes it easier for your fish to learn to anticipate when it'll be bright or dark - after awhile on a constant schedule they don't act so startled when the lights change.

I just bought a 10 port usb and a timer that's seems to be the most recommended.

.

this kind of information of watts and volts just goes over my head.
I also plan on buying another surge protector.
