I have this dual scale and it's fine.
At my partners I have a little cheap thing for the beans (*), and another crappy scale for the water. I don't need anything flashy for timing. If I want to get fancy I just run a stopwatch on the phone, normally I just look at the second hand on my watch. Close enough for jazz.
