As others have mentioned, it’s not you, it’s the cooking of Indian food.
We flip houses so we are very proactive about Preventing Indian food smell from being absorbed in the house.
We have this issue too but have found the following things really help with preventing the smell from entering any bedroom:

  1. Make sure your bedroom and closet doors are closed when your mom is cooking.

  2. Buy a small room filter that you can keep in your room to help filter out the smell. The link below is one for $35 and it works really well. My son has allergies and it keeps his air filtered from pollen and dust.

  3. Politely ask your mom to make sure the exhaust is on when she cooks. This reason may be hard to explain without telling her that you are being made fun of because of the cooking smell sticking to your clothes. My husband and I also have a window exhaust we put up to make sure our house doesn’t absorb any smell. They can be found on amazon but are a bit pricier.

  4. Make sure and shower after the cooking is done.

  5. Keep an open box of baking soda (they are less then a dollar at any Walmart/ target) in your closet. It helps absorb smells that end up attaching to your clothes.

I am sorry you are going through this. I am also sorry for some of the negative comments on here- although most of them were helpful! I hope this helps.

I swear by UVC air purifiers like this one.

You can probably order online or find it in Akihabara or a similar place. It won't remove the mold but it will kill any that goes through the light and keep it from sending out millions of little mold spores. Since your place in Japan is probably tiny, one should do the trick.

Edit: Mold and any other kind of irritant can make your lungs worse, even if you don't have an allergic reaction.

There is a plug in air purifier for smaller to medium size rooms to start you off with something cheap. The filter is even to help rid cigarette smoke. Also, I understand that feeling. I dealt with that until I was able to move out. I'd also recommend politely asking them to not smoke in your room.

Febreze heavy duty plug ins are cheap and help with all types of odors, including smoke. The fabric spray can be spritzed on your clothes, definitely wash everything when you can. Also, does your dryer have a steam refresh option? If so, that would really help you before school. Takes a few minutes and gets rid of a lot of the smell.

I second keeping you door closed at all times and using a towel. You could also actually buy a protector for the bottom of your door to better prevent it getting in, these are also cheap on amazon. Keep your windows open as much as you can and open your closet door when you do.

I'm also putting another link for amazon for these charcoal eliminator bags. You can hang them in your closet or put them in your dresser. All of this will help a lot, but of course not fully rid of it. And if you're able to, don't wear your clothes around them while smoking. Change right before school. If they drive you, roll down the window or at least crack it. Hope this helps.

Edit - Don't over spray with cologne either. It can actually make the smell worse. Spritz 1-2 times on your neck depending on how strong the smell is. I'm a female and learned this the hard way with my perfume when in school.

I have 2 cats. I scoop their litter at least once per day and vacuum up any debris they track around. I also got a UV air purifier for their bathroom, which cuts down on the smell so much so that when I walk by the bathroom, the only time I can smell anything is if they've failed to completely cover their mess (without the purifier, I could smell every time they used their boxes). And after I replaced my carpets with hard flooring, cleaning up their hairballs/vomit is super easy (Nature's Miracle is my go-to).

Invest in a UV air purifier. I had a moldy bathroom and got sinusitis repeatedly last winter. This winter, pure health.

I still wake up with a congested nose though, which makes morning yoga impractical. Anyone have tips?
