Your paying too much for your 290. Amazon has the same card for ~$413 after shipping.

It is on amazon but no MIR.

You could get a R9 290 for a little more than that 280X. Here's one, for example: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HS84DFU/?tag=pcpapi-20

If not, there are cheaper versions of the R9 280X available for around $300. Good luck, OP.

u/parliament32 · 2 pointsr/BitMarket

I hope you're joking.

I can get those on Newegg for the exact same price.

I can get them on Amazon for slightly higher.

I can get them on eBay for even less.

Why would I pay you anything close to that amount, when they offer insurance, buyer protection, and they're reputable? While you're just some goon with a 2 sale history?

MSRP for those cards is $400. I can offer you $250. You can't honestly expect to get more than 75% back... "I didn't have a use for them anymore" is a loss.

Case: Rosewill, NZXT, and CoolerMaster are good places to start. Its mostly an aesthetic choice.

CPU: Intel i5 or i7. If you're budget is tight go i3.

GPU: This is the most important!! If your budget is tight I'd go with AMD R7 265X, R9 270, or Nvidia GTX 750 Ti. If not my pick would be the AMD R9 290 non-reference. It's cheaper than most yet is very powerful.

Motherboard- I use a Asrock Fatal1ty Killer. Most common brands are Asrock, MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte.

RAM- I use Kingston HyperX. Other good brands include Corsair, Crucial, G-Skill. Be sure to get 8GB or more RAM memory.

Power Supply Unit- The two highest reviewed brands are Seasonic and XFX (I use 1050watt XFX). Other good brands include Corsair, EVGA, CoolerMaster. You will want probably at least 700W PSU but I would recommend a !000W. It will give you headroom for any components you want to add.

Wifi- If you want/need this: TP-Link WDN-4800

SSD- This is for your operating system, doesn't help much with games. Samsung 840 Evo, Kingston HyperX, and AMD R7 (just released, only read reviews) are all good and affordable brands. You shouldn't need more than 120GB. If you have a M.2 socket on the Motherboard you choose, go with an M.2 SSD such as the Crucial M500, or if you can find it at an affordable price, the Samsung XP941.

HDD- Seagate Barracuda 3TB is a cheap, yet reliable choice.

Optical Drive- I've only used mine once, but you can find a DVD-RW on Amazon for like $12. (Internal not external)

Miscellaneous:

Keyboard: RAZR, Logitech are good brands

Mouse: too many to count, just browse "gaming mouse" on Amazon or Newegg.

Monitor: I prefer Asus. Go with an IPS monitor. They are gorgeous. !440p if you have the money, if not, 1080p.

Headphones- AudioTechnica or Sennheiser

non-reference are graphic cards with after-market coolers on them. I like XFX and Gigabyte.

I am looking at buying a R9 290 from a guy locally. He is willing to let it go for $300 CAD, is this a good deal?

I want it to hold me over until the new Vega cards come out.

This is the card:

Well now. That's a build. Does the software you use benefit at all from Nvidia's CUDA cores vs. AMD stream processors? Otherwise, I'd go for an r9 280X for a healthy performance boost. Maybe even an r9 290 at that price point.

Edit: cheapest r9 290 I found was $360

u/EliteShadowMan · 1 pointr/nvidia

Hey, all. I recently decided it's time to get a minor upgrade for a GPU and decided to go with my first Nvidia card and got the MSI Geforce 1060 6GB which will be coming in the mail tomorrow.

Currently have this as my GPU

The R9 290 that I have used to be quiet back when I originally got it late 2014, and it gradually just got louder and more annoying to try and play any sort of game. I found a lot of games still getting the GPU fans super loud (CS:GO, LoL, Grim Dawn) even though they aren't THAT demanding of games.

I guess I sort of rambled on and was wondering if I should actually be expecting a huge difference in performance and how loud the 1060 gets as compared to the R9 290 that I had? Thanks.

Honestly, I'm kind of put off from Gigabyte as a manufacture for GPU's after my first and only experience with building a computer and getting a GPU that was that bad. I hope MSI delivers a fast and quiet card for me, as I've heard nothing but good things from other people.

Thanks, I took the RAM note into my changes and will use what Josh suggested above. About the 290 though, I went with the XFX Black DD as I hear it is fairly quiet. Newegg offers the same one for slightly more (I know there are more stores than Newegg, but just for comparison). The cheaper option on Amazon is the Gigabyte Windforce, but the difference is about 50 dollars and I read good things about the XFX.

EDIT: Amazon has the Sapphire Tri-X for slightly more still.

This is just my thinking, and I could be wrong, but aren't mini-itx boards more expensive for the same feature-set as its equivalent micro-atx board? If you were to get a micro-atc board, you could consider SLI or Crossfire down the line as well if that is something you're interested in. Also, unless you are doing some video editing, or workstation stuff, and i7 is unneccessary. You can spend the $100 difference between the i7 and an i5 on the GPU. Everything else looks good to me. One m,ore thing, though. Is the green thing an Nvidia preference? If it isn't, something like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125505&cm_re=R9_290-_-14-125-505-_-Product) will be right in your price range after swapping to an i5. The r9 290 is a beast. It's without a doubt the best price/performance card in the high end market. At 1080p it performs similarly to a GTX 780 (typically $500), and at higher resolutions than that, it typically outperforms it and comes really close to a 780ti (typically no less than $600).

On sale right now

These amazon warehouse deals are pretty reliable, and I do believe they carry the same sort of return policy as normal amazon
