That sounds horrible, and you should definitely see a doctor about the cramps/nausea as it could be something serious. I've had the same happen for 5-6 years or so. Advice for the meantime:

Nausea

  • Ginger everything. Ginger tea, Gin-Gins can be gotten from Amazon if you have access, and ginger beer (non-alcoholic) can be found on Amazon as well as in some grocery stores (I swear by Belfast, it's really strong) It's a bit of an acquired taste though. I've found that regular ginger ale isn't potent enough. Ginger has the same chemical component as the serotonin-inhibiting variety of anti-emetics.

  • If you do get to a doctor, ask them if they can give you Zofran/Ondansetron (generic), although if you're in the US they might put up a fight as some insurance companies don't cover it. It comes in two forms--dissolving tablets and regular ones. The regular generic tablets are a hell of a lot cheaper than name brand (~$30 USD per month, but don't quote me on that) or even just the dissolving ones. Supposedly the dissolvers kick in faster, but I've never noticed much of a difference.

    Cramps

  • Personally, I favor Pamprin over Midol as I can't take NSAIDS, but either should work. I'm just lucky enough that Pamprin works fine, but without it I'm generally writhing in pain for the first few days.

  • Heating pad

  • Magnesium is supposed to be helpful in alleviating period cramps, but the supplements I tried gave me horrible stomachaches. There are two kinds--magnesium citrate and magnesium malate (I think malate is the non-stomachache-inducing one, unfortunately it seems to be harder to find.)

    Diet

I see some people in the thread have mentioned anemia. I have it as well, so I'll throw in my tips in case you're in the same boat.

  • Red meat (protein/iron). Probably not best in the long run as I do tend to eat a lot of it while on my period, but keeps me from passing out.

  • Beans (protein). Also helps with not passing out.

  • Spinach and baked potatoes (iron). Same.

  • Walnuts (magnesium)

Hope this helps and I hope you're feeling better!

Certain games make me feel sick when I play them and give me the worst headaches. I chew on a couple Gin-Gins (these ones are the best) beforehand and that usually helps!
