They pretend to have developed custom hardware/software but actually their hardware is based on a standard chinese travel router and their firmware is based on this:

https://github.com/grugq/portal

You can get a similar device for about 20 bucks in the form of a gl.inet router with their free tor firmware (also based on PORTAL firmware):

Yes I have a gl.inet and yes it is pretty nifty :)

Any device connected to it has all traffic routed through tor whether it likes it or not. You can have a DNM only device which has never connected to the internet without tor and doesn't know it's own location. Very difficult to de-anon.

Only issue is the firmware is based on open source projects but is not in itself open source. You're putting your faith in the developers to not be doing any fucked up spying shit secretly.

You might be better off using a portable openwrt router like this. It'll end up being smaller than the pi, wifi is built in, and you won't have to buy an SD card.

edit: This was for building camera systems, not the display. Re-read your post, and it looks like the camera's are already there.

According to the LibreCMC page on the ThinkPenguin router ($39.99) it just looks like a re-branded Gl/iNET 6416A router ($24.00). I did see some complaints on Amazon about the Gl/iNET one shipping with less flash than advertised. Unless I'm missing something, it seems like you should be able to flash it with LibreCMC and achieve the same thing.
