Go The Fuck to Sleep
Yeah, and then he picked up on prompts in their questions to expand his story, creating and fixing false memories, and the tale grew for 7 years before publication.
By the time it was published, the minnow was a whale.
Honestly, the book is like 2 pages of this kids story and the rest of the parents blabbing, many years after the supposed events. If this is the level of proof people are willing to accept for their beliefs, it's quite sickening.
Nobody in more reasonable countries cares, but in the US there's like 10 different versions in any bookstore I go to (for kids, conversation guide, etc). At least it has now dropped below "Go the Fuck to Sleep" on the Amazon top seller list, which was a much more credible and intellectually stimulating book by far.
I think he’s ready for this children’s bedtime classic:
Go the F**ck to Sleep

Personally, I vote for "Go the Fuck to Sleep" -- if you can, get the Audible version narrated by Samuel L. Jackson for her. I guarantee you she'll laugh. (Assuming she's okay with profanity.)
Even if you don't have kids, you've dealt with the kid who won't go to sleep...
Your username is so close, yet so far from the best "children's book" of all time.
Go the F**k to Sleep
Here is a reading by Levar Burton, aka the host of Reading Rainbow/Geordi La Forge from Star Trek: TNG.
I think that's already been done.
God damn it, woke baby, go the fuck to sleep.
Here.
That's for advanced readers. Try these:
Go the F**k to Sleep, The Pop-Up Book of Phobias, The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories, and my son's favorite Auschwitz: A History in Photographs
Sooooo it’s a little more a book for the parents. I wouldn’t read it to a toddler who could pick up on the language. But we still get a laugh when we read it to our 11 month old.
It’s called Go The Fuck To Sleep. And Samuel L Jackson reads the Audible for it. It’s so good!
Go The Fuck To Sleep
> Im looking more for decent evidence rather than anecdotal because placebo and other factors have so much to do with how much energy you have whhen you wake up, but good anecdotal evedince would be nice too.
I'm willing to bet that there have been no double-blind, peer reviewed studies on this.
But IMO, you also need to consider what your body is actually doing during sleep- healing, growing, regenerating, etc. Exactly how much whatever drug you're on impedes these processes would also need to be taken into account.
But really, like the book says, go the fuck to sleep.
> Does that make me a bad dad?
Nope, kids take time and energy, they want to be with you and around you. Enjoy that time, it is such a fleeting phase of their lives, and when it is gone, it is gone forever. Sometimes you don't want to be distracted, and it is OK to not be, other times you don't want to be distracted, and it is OK to be distracted and let them take you into their world for a while. Trust me, you will get the time to get to everything, it just may not happen as you thought or when you thought. But that is OK too. But remember, there has never been a parent on this planet that hasn't felt frustrated or at their limit, and it is OK for a parent to take a timeout too.
And if you want a little humor in your parenting https://www.amazon.com/Go-F-Sleep-Adam-Mansbach/dp/1617750255
Reminds me of this great book for parents: https://www.amazon.com/Go-F-Sleep-Adam-Mansbach/dp/1617750255/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525092251&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=fo+the+fuck+to+sleep
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Not entering, but I'd be a little disappointed if someone didn't have this on their wishlist... lookin' at you, Wamps.
If you want to do something other then the traditional formula, wipes and diapers route (although always helpful) you can try doing decor, or toys. As a young broke mom myself I think food, diapers, clothing alot of the somewhat fun things I can't afford to think about. You may also wish to include a book or two; I suggest this one it helped me through the first leg of parenthood.
P.S- You are a great sibling for doing this for your sister, I am sure she will appreciate it monsteriously!
Go the F**k to Sleep.
How about Go The Fuck To Sleep?
Although, I'm not sure why foul language would stop a book from being published.
Amazon sells Go the Fuck to Sleep by Adam Mansbach (note the back cover image: the fucks aren't censored).

Go the F**k to Sleep by Adam Mansbach
It's funny, this is much different from my own interpretation of the song, which is more along the lines of Major Tom has a mental breakdown when faced with the reality of the vastness of space.
And yeah, I think this is more along the lines of a "children's book" that is actually for adults. Cf., Go the Fuck to Sleep
Buy yourself a copy of this book! I own one! ;) http://www.amazon.com/Go-F-Sleep-Adam-Mansbach/dp/1617750255
Find me the most amazing bed. It should be comfy and awe-inspiring.
We have the Boots and Barkley version of this dog bed. My little dog sleeps on it, even though we got it for the big one (the little dog has her own, smaller dog bed that the big one now uses. The weirdos). I know it's the best bed in the world, because she used to wake us up early whining to go outside. Now, she lays in bed until I'm up and dressed, suppressing her outstanding need to urinate in favor of laying there.
Perfect bedtime snack. What is it?
I like muffins. This is my favorite kind. They are delicious and wonderful and make the world a delightful place :)
I love classic flannel pajama sets, particularly the ones with cute pictures. What’s the best one you can find?
Owls and polka dots make a sleepy Amber a happy Amber. Now, just to find some muffins....
You are never too old for a nightlight. Find a fun one.
Ooooh, nice! I see cool night lights in Target all the time and always want to get one (ok, all of them), but I never do because we don't really need one. But I checked amazon for the best nightlight in the entire world and I found this one. Because dinosaurs. Do I really need to explain further? :)
Nobody sleeps until the baby sleeps. Can you find an item that will help baby sleep?
Have you tried reading baby a book? This one is particularly effective, I think ;)
Every night I sleep with an animal plushie I bought as a souvenir at the San Diego Zoo. Can you link a plushie version of the same animal
I'm guessing giraffe. My entire basis is that I have a giraffe stuffed animal that I recently got from the NC Zoo. My logic may not be sound, I just love giraffes :)
She used to say she could taste sleep and that it was as delicious as a BLT on fresh French bread. Thanks for the contest! This was a ton of fun. Sorry for being a bit longwinded... :)
This
Go the fuck to sleep.
No, seriously, kid.
Alright challange accepted, I guess ill write a nice clean report on a childrens bedtime story
I usually give this:

I just ordered my SO this awesome shirt and onesie combo, an epic coloring book, something to help if he's feeling overwhelmed, a book for bedtime, and a shirt to help bring out his inner nerd as a late father's day/early baby day present~ get your hubby something fun that matches his personality, there's plenty of awesome things on amazon for dads-to-be for every kind of dad out there. You just have to look :3
Both my mother and I are big fans of the Kipling story 'The Cat who Walked by Himself' - she used to read it to me when I was a small child every night. I stitched this for her for her birthday one year, and she still keeps it on her desk.
Similarly, I bought my dad a copy of "Go the Fuck to Sleep" last year, which he proudly read out loud in front of my moderately religious extended family. It was charming and hilarious and a bit rude at the same time.
There's a small market for "parody" children's books, picture books that are really joke gift books for adults, like this one -- but really, kids are important, kids are the ones who enjoy these stories, and kids are a key audience for important mind-broadening messages that help start them on the journey to be critical thinkers. Even topics like death can be dealt with in some ways.
Imagine if one of your future stories were one that kids really liked, that was popular with kids -- that would be a huge benefit to selling a picture book, and also a way to spread a message to a broader audience than us adults on /r/atheism.
i wish i was very crafty ! I would love a blanket! and this is essential even if you don't have kids! LOL. who wouldn't want a book called go the fuck to sleep? :D
If you want to sleep well I suggest you read a book before bed.
What I recommend
By far the coolest thing on my WL I wouldn't expect a new one.
Thanks for the contest!
Oh man, he absolutely looks like a Rocko.
Or maybe a Ted?
good luck naming him though! Beautiful animal.
I would definitely read this to my dog, she's spoiled and needs to be tucked in for bed.
But this is just for me.
As a mom who was equally pragmatic about her pregnancy -- at the anatomy scan, I made halloween skeleton decoration jokes instead of being all excited about the tech finding my fetus's penis, she was very upset with me -- I would recommend Emily Oster's books. She and her husband are behavioral economists, and so their approach a lot of the fluffy "recommendations" and "averages" people tell soon-to-be and new parents was to look at studies to find whatever data they could to support it.
Here's her Amazon page, you'll want copies of both "Expecting better" -- her pregnancy book -- and "Cribsheet" -- her early parenting book. They've reassured both my husband and me about what's actually good precautions and what's just hysteria, and I've referenced Cribsheet at least twice more since actually giving birth. You can also back your wife's and your decisions up with real studies and data when people decide to offer advice you didn't ask for that runs counter to what you want to do.
I'd also recommend the parenting classes the hospital should offer new parents, for everything from how labor will go to new parent awareness. Some of it feels really dumb and sentimental, but some was good reminders and stuff I never thought about -- like how cleaner looks like juice to little kids. (Also, fetuses are swimming in their own pee in the womb.)
Finally, we were gifted an encyclopedia-esque book aimed for fathers at my baby shower. I'll look up the title at home -- my very reserved husband has enjoyed reading it for what's to come type stuff.
PS: You'll want a copy of this book for bedtime, especially when he's little, and Shel Silverstein poetry is much better than any children's book to read at nighttime when they're too little to pay attention to the pictures. All the docs want out of reading to your kids is just talking to them... all the time... so read something you like.
http://www.amazon.com/Go-F-Sleep-Adam-Mansbach/dp/1617750255 .
You'll need that.
newphew's first christmas, 10mos old. he obviously won't remember anything and had more fun in the big ass empty box i put on top of him than anything else. the best part for the adults was when he "opened" my gift which included Go The Fuck To Sleep... adults died laughing. We even pulled up the Sam L Jackson narration on youtube which was hilarious.
another example of it's "success" was the picture of me reading it to him got over 100 likes on FB. whoopie

Don't feel shocked but my kid loves the "Go the f_k to sleep book. Of course being 4 he cannot read it or comprehend the swears in it and I substitute appropriate words for the ones that are not suitable.
That being said, there is a kid friendly version of the book.
For those wondering we were given the book by a close friend of my wife when she found out my wife was pregnant. After however many books I have read to my kids, this is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I have yet to see.

Read him these two books, in this order.
Seriously though, there's already a number of really good suggestions here, and the top three comments pretty much cover the best approach in my opinion.
Additionally, In a few years, when he is ready, you might find it fun to teach him about Greek mythology, ancient Egyptian culture, Native American beliefs, etc. Ancient Egyptian civilization fascinated me as a kid and probably really helped open my eyes.
I am a bit of an insomniac. This book describes my week via amazon pretty well.

My serious response is:
If he is just laying there being quiet and not disturbing the other kids, then it's okay. I have two toddlers and sometimes they just rest and are quiet. Other times they fall asleep.
But I do feel your pain. That's why someone wrote this book.
Safe Baby Handling Tips and Go the Fuck to Sleep. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
In all seriousness though, Easy to Love by Becky Bailey is a transformative approach to parenting that I’m totally hooked on. Not everyone’s cuppa, as it falls firmly in the “positive parenting” category, but it works for some.
well, I'm in a somewhat similar situation. Except she's not pregnant. All I can say is this, as soon as you can.
I'm sorry, I feel your pain. Maybe this will help? :)
