Most of my development team uses the above split keyboard all at different angles and heights.

Hey there, my 2 cents. A lot of this is from a corporate environment that stresses not getting injuries from over-computing.

Biggest thing for me is changing positions. Static posture causes a lot of problems. That means taking breaks - getting up from your computer and moving around. It's kind of easy to do in Starcraft because you have well-defined "break" periods; that is, the time in-between games.

One idea is to have your computer setup in a way that you can stand and use it. For some people this may seem crazy but sit/stand desks are not new. Standing up "decompresses" your body and shifts your weight to (leg/foot) muscles that are generally not doing anything when you are sitting down.

Regarding hand/wrist issues - [joystick/vertical mice](http://www.amazon.com/s/url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=vertical mouse) keep your hand in a more natural position than regular mice. You can try this out by just letting your hands drop to your sides. Your palms naturally face your sides. A regular mouse forces you to twist your wrist inwards, rather unnaturally. Holding your wrist in this position for long periods without changing them can cause problems.

There are even keyboards that split up to left your hands type closer to a natural position.

Similar to /u/donut - I need ergonomics. I'm used to a Goldtouch tent-style folding keyboard. The key response is unfortunately mushy and slows me down a little, but the adjustable angle is an absolute lifesaver for people with various wrist, forearm and elbow problems.

Nirvana would be a keyboard in this style but with mechanical switches, possibly MX blues. I'd happily pay a premium for such a beast, as I type all day at work.

Yes I am aware it doesn't exist. But maybe if enough folks like me get heard, someone in the keyboard biz will start to realize there's a market.

It probably will. However, I don't recommend thumb trackballs. Too much repetition on a single digit, especially if you have smaller hands.

Regarding wrist pain: hold out your hand as if giving someone a handshake. Now untwist it so that you are putting the least pressure on your wrist as possible. Your palm isn't directly facing down as it does using a generic flat and symmetrical mouse. This angle is the neutral and least harmful angle of your wrist while using a computer.

Try a mouse with some angle on it (a vertical mouse is the extreme attempt at a solution at this), or a finger trackball mounted at an angle to match your wrist.

Likewise, a keyboard that is not flat and does not scrunch your wrists in or out while typing is also very important to reduce wrist strain.
