These particular hair ties work so much better than others. Almost never have to retie my hair during class like everyone else does.
Also, I highly recommend these grippy hair ties for athletes! They totally do stay put all day/activity.
I have long hari that is fine, but I have a TON of it. I swear by a high pony with these - awesome grippy hairties Normal hair ties just slide out of my hair. Buns give me a headache, and braids turn into a whip.

Long + thick hair here. I put my hair up in a pony with these hair ties. I have bangs and a lot of wispy flyaways as well so I use clips and a bit of hairspray to hold them in place. Finally I put on a dad hat and go about my day!
