Supplies: Clear Inkjet Printable Film with Adhesive Backing, Inkjet Printer, Software that allows you to specify the size of printed image (for example OpenOffice), Foil Magic Card, Acetone (aka Nail Polish Remover), Cotton Balls/Paper Towels, Newspaper/Packing Paper (or any surface cover that you don't mind getting ink on), Masking Tape/Painter's Tape (or any tape that will peel away from a magic card without tearing the magic card), Scissors.

Roll masking tape into 4 small cylinders with sticky side out. On the back of the foil magic card, tape the back corners to the newspaper using the masking tape cylinders. Wet cotton balls with acetone. Rub the front of the foil magic card using the acetone-wet cotton balls to remove ink from the front of the foil magic card towards the newspaper. Once all ink is removed, you should have a magic card with a blank foil front.

Download digital alter image. Open the digital alter image in your software. Resize image to approximately 63 mm x 88 mm (2.48 inches x 3.46 inches) while preserving aspect ratio. You can probably fit 4 images per page, so also try a few sizes bigger and smaller, in case your printer prints slightly smaller or bigger than you specified. Load clear inkjet printable film in inkjet printer. Print page of images. Let the page dry for at least 10 minutes.

Cut image stickers out using scissors. Peel adhesive backing from image sticker. Align corners of cut-out image sticker over the blank foil magic card, and lower the image sticker down very slowly. You only get 1 chance at adhering the image sticker to the blank foil magic card. Go very slowly. If you adhere it mis-aligned, it is nearly impossible to separate the sticker image from the magic card, you will probably permanently bend the magic card, and the adhesive will smudge and look like a blotch in the artwork.

Due to the thickness of the clear printable film, the printed card will not fit in an inner sleeve, and will sometimes not fit in a normal sleeve unless you cut the edges even more with scissors.

Don't know about piface, but here's what I do.

  1. Use acetone to remove the face from a foil. Amonkhet foils, for whatever reason, are really really easy to wipe off, so I recommend that.
  2. Print out your proxy on adhesive transparency paper. (I use this.)
  3. Stick the transparent printout to the blank foil.

Easy as pie. Costs less than a dollar per proxy, and they look excellent.

I've been using this stuff, but I highly suggest you avoid it unless you have an inkjet printer.

ah yea true about the colours, the posted ones a bad example but even on my sky striker token seems like the shine is still somewhat strong through a matte sleeve though the india ink is probably good and easy to do just for the bottom bar.

the paper I've been using is this .Someone here recommended it on another custom token post.

May i ask what you print your field centers on? I think it was was actually one of your posts that made me wonder how to get the colours/shine better lololol. Some of the field centers look very sharp and not too shiny like the super rare joey one.

Just thinking about how to do it myself. I understand my method is most likely not how this was done but I can see it working still..

  • Buy some of this stuff.
  • Check the size of the image you would like to print.
  • Buy some of these. in whatever size you'd like your image to be, maybe also grab an extra that is larger for a backplate.
  • Buy a set of these to use as a stand for the printed plates.
  • Grab something like this as a stand for the whole deal once done.
  • Open up Photoshop and follow this guide on how to separate the colour channels into their own images.
  • Print each channel to a separate piece of the Graphix film.
  • Cut out your printed image and apply each to their own acrylic square.
  • Take your larger square and drill two holes in it for the plate stands.
  • Take two of the standoffs and put them in backwards. (these are designed to have the long metal tube behind the display, however we want it on the front.
  • Remove two extra front covers (there are 20 standoffs and we only need 2) and then screw them onto the standoffs that we just put in backwards, essentially using the extra covers to dress up the front and cover the exposed bolt holes.
  • Place your colored plates on the backing like in the photo and rest it on the stand purchased earlier
  • In theory this should be complete now. I'm looking into buying the supplies and making one for a family member for christmas and if I do I'll post an update.
