I don't know if you are looking for home use or a gift or what, or even in German or English.
A friend gave me http://www.amazon.com/Alles-Soljanka-oder-ultimative-DDR-Kochbuch/dp/3897980223/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1413571233&sr=8-6&keywords=ddr+kochbuch as a gift, and the recipes are pretty much the same. The actual book has lots of photos and historical tidbits.

In terms of really old-school German cooking, with lots of lard and instructions on butchering pigs and stuff like that, a friend gave me a well-loved copy of Maria Jecker and Hildegard Margis's Das deutsche Kochbuch, printed in 1933. There are used copies floating around the internet and the recipes I've cooked from it have been amazing, but are not for those looking to cut down on calories and fat.
