You might want to consider an electric mower. With a small yard, even a corded mower is pretty easy to use. This is what I use on my lawn and it does fine. Make sure you get a decent extension cord. I measured my lawn out and I can do it all with a 100' extension cord. I have about 2000sqft of lawn.

Based on the pictures it looks like your grass is really tall so you may have to go easy, do like half cuts the first run at the HIGHEST cut setting. Cut it high all summer. We are just about out of our high growth season so it'll slow down soon.

If you hate the mower, you can unload it on craigslist for $100 or just upgrade to a gas mower later. For my needs this has been fine.

I have this model, and it works well for my ~600sqft of lawn. It's relatively quiet, about as loud as a vacuum cleaner, and is easy to push. Wrangling the cord is really the only downside, but I just go back and forth across the lawn, moving away from the outlet.

I've tried using a reel mower on my yard, and, as others have said, you have to do it very frequently to keep the grass short enough to cut effectively.

This. I have the corded Greenworks 20" mower and it's incredible. Don't skimp on the electric cord. I ordered a huge electric cable to power all my outdoor stuff (I dislike the crappy battery ecosystem).

I've got a corded electric GreenWorks 16" mower and I love this thing. Press a button and it's immediately on with a quietish hum.

Was looking at the cordless and they had a number of models, but dealing with the cord isn't too big a deal for me, but it powers through just about everything I throw at it. It's nice and light as well.

I'm in a similar situation, though my yard is larger, probably about 5000 sq ft. But it's pretty flat and there is no spot more than about 60 feet from the house.

Like you I didn't want to spend $500+ on a mower. I have not had good luck with cheap ($150-180) gas mowers, they don't last, I got 2 and they both died in 2-3 years. I tried an Earthwise battery powered mower but the batteries began to fail after only a year, and replacing the batteries is expensive ($100-150).

I ended up with this. The mower is pretty light weight. The cord is somewhat of a hassle, you need a 12 amp extension cord which at 50-100 feet is kind of heavy, and obviously you need to drag it around. However if your yard does not have a lot of obstructions, once you're going back and forth it isn't a big deal. You quickly learn the tricks of how to flake and run the cord and to turn the mower so that the cord remains behind you. You can also get a 2nd person to help manage the cord to make it go faster.

So far so good on this mower...

Only had it for 1 summer, so I can't comment on it's BIFL-ness, but I've been very happy with it so far. It doesn't have the implacable tank-like feeling of a good gas mower, and I did have to go over a couple spots twice, but this was on high grass that hadn't been cut in months. It's also much lighter than a similar gas guzzler, so I didn't feel nearly as tired pushing it around the yard (part of my lawn is on a slope).

I considered cordless models as well, but my thinking was that no matter how good batteries get, a corded model will be more BIFL. And my yard is laid out such that a 100' cord covers it easily.

i have a plug in electric mower that was handed down to me from my mother who used it for 3 years, then it sat for 2.5 years. I have been using it for 2 years with 0 issues. I think it is this one, or maybe 1 model size bigger:

The lawn mower does have a grass catcher bag. But some of the cut grass came out from Side Discharge Chute and then left on the pave road. This is the mower I am using (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ZVOLXE). I want to clean up the grass debris on the road, but don't know what is the best tool to use. So sad.

Let me offer an alternative. I just moved and picked up this electric lawn mower instead of a gas one. So far, so good. I have a .25 acre lot.
