If you are just doing this split, go with USPS flat-rate.
Also, DO NOT trust the self-adhesive, use tape to ensure a good seal.

I use this Brother Laser Printer (wifi enabled) and use half sheet adhesive labels. I thought the dedicated label printers were too expensive and this allows me to print packing slips as well.

That is the most basic way to do it, but I've learned that paying for paying for shipping online is probably the most efficient way to do it. Go to stamps.com or usps.com. Enter your package weight and dimensions. Purchase and print the label. Stick the label on the package and drop it off at a post office. Writing the address on the package isn't hard but I was taking at least a minute or more for each package and now and can get way more packages done in way less time. And don't have to wait in line at the post office anymore.
Laserjet over ink jet is preferred. HP has a line of printers that work over wi-fi. Look for Wi-Fi direct HP printers. Possibly buy used on eBay with a return policy. Others may work, but I’ve seen HP invest the most in this tech.
Also, I recommend using half sheet labels from Amazon. PM me and I can send you some extras I have (I switched to a thermal printer now that I’ve reached a nice scale). They save you time from cutting and using tape to attach labels.
If you reach scale (for me 1000+ orders), find a thermal printer (like Dymo 4xl) and probably buy a laptop.
If you ship through ebay, you get free tracking. You'll pay more than a stamp, but at 1 oz (this is the minimum) it should only be about
$1.00$2.00, and your buyers will want tracking. Plus it automatically emails the buyer all the tracking info when you purchase the postage. It's just much simpler than doing it yourself. I would recommend shipping through ebay, especially if you are looking at a lot of volume.
I use these labels and have been pretty happy with them. Labels printed through ebay are default 4x6, but if I'm not mistaken you can edit these settings on paypal...like if you have a thermal printer or something like that. If you don't want to buy labels, you can just print them on paper and tape them to the envelope with clear packing tape.

If you're brand new on ebay, I think there might be limits on how many items you can sell per month. Not sure what they are, though.

I still use a regular printer. Thermal printers are nice, but I didn't have 200 bucks to spend on a printer.
Invest in some label paper. It'll save tape and time. Here's what I use
Buy bulk peel-and stick labels. I like the half-sheet ones... Fba splits their labels in 2 and usps on eBay lets you print a half-sheet.

A cheap laser printer and half sheet labels will cost about the same as a thermal printer. Printer toner is cheap and lasts a while. Cheaper if you buy aftermarket toner or figure out how to refill toner.
