The raspi runs a simple python script to query the controller on button press, ill be able to post that tomorrow.

I can recommend this printer: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LWLJPNS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YS6Lyb64RM4G7 I am using this since february and it is working flawless. I have it connected by usb port and there were no problem to print using python (https://github.com/python-escpos/python-escpos) or php (https://github.com/mike42/escpos-php) or even straight from bash. Holds lots of thermal paper and prints way faster than this tiny adafruit one (tested).
