I guess it is possible this could be explained by that IR blaster mumbo jumbo that someone else mentioned, but I think that the far more likely explanation is that your Xbox is cursed. This video gives excellent advice about how to remove a curse. In my experience, the candle method is about 75% effective. If it doesn't work, you could submerge your Xbox in holy water for at least 1 hour. This method is 100% effective but there is a small chance the powerful spiritual energies involved could cause permanent damage to your Xbox.
