I don't know what the hell you're doing to kill a vacuum in under a year. I bought cheap ass $30 dirt devils that lasted longer than my leases. A year ago, I bought this on sale for less than $100. It works great.

We buy cheap vacuum cleaners, including the Shark, and destroy them. We bought this Hoover @2 years ago and couldn't be happier. FWIW - we have a cat and dog and our carpet is thin.

I have the hoover rewind t-series linked below. I've had it 5 years, and so far have only replaced one belt and one (washable) filter.

The thing snarfed up a mechanical pencil and I was able to get it out easily.

It's fairly cheap and reliable. Consumer reports rated it highly, especially compared to other non-$400 vacuums.

Edit: I somehow missed I was in bifl. I still love the vacuum, but I doubt it will last 20+ years. :)

This is it. It's gone down in price quite a bit since I bought it, so if it's included in the Cyber Monday sales this year I'd jump on it, because it's basically already a steal. Although, because it's a bagless vacuum, things can get pretty dusty if you try to empty it out indoors, so don't get it if that bothers you. It also lacks useful dusting attachments, so if you want to dust something high up you'll need a friend to hoist the entire damn vacuum up beside you, and that sucker ain't light. Other than that, great vacuum. Good luck de-furring your floors!

I have this guy: http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-WindTunnel-T-Series-Upright-UH70120/dp/B002HFDLCK

I'm very very satisfied, had it for about a year.

That's 10,101 Hoover vacuums to protect you from a vacuum if you're too lazy to whip out your vacuum conversion chart.

I did a ridiculous amount of research on vacuum's. In short, if you want one and don't vacuum hard wood, buy this:

I have a Dyson 23... it's a piece of shit. The Hoover there, it's insane how amazing it is.

I bought this about a year ago. It has already needed the motor replaced and the power button is starting to flake out. It has another year under warranty, but what should I be saving for in the meantime? I'm hoping to keep it under $200.

I have this vacuum. It's a monster on carpeted floors. I inherited from the previous tenants, so buying it used won't be a big deal.

I second brushing cats with a slicker brush. I used a furminator but it wasn't getting a lot of hair from my short-haired cat.

Also, for lint rollers, get a lint brush! If you have a dollar tree around, they're only $1. It's reusable.

Good luck!! Having a bunch of pet hair float around is a total pain, but it can be managed :)

Subbed! Also, quick question.. IIRC you dislike hoover, yet amazon reviews and previous hoover owning experience led me to buying this. What is your personal opinion of it? I am trying to convince myself that it was a legit purchase, but I also have a very large (90 lb) black dog that literally spews hair all over my carpet on a daily basis. I find myself having to empty the canister every 3-4 minutes as it fills up fairly quickly with hair, which is annoying.

I have $200 what vaccum should i get that cleans up dog hair the best? I currently have this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HFDLCK/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it works kinda well... I have a Husky so its an epic fuckton of dog hair every day. My buddy has a Kirby for example, and goes through a bag a week, and those are expensive.
