I agree with this. I am a woman, and I don't give a rat's ass if a guy can shoot rifles, wrestle bears, drive tanks or sink a huge amount of beers. I'm looking for sincerity, being yourself. Being a real person goes way farther than following the contemporary social guidelines about how to be whatever. Also, OP already has a girlfriend and friends, and it seems to me as if he's figuring that part out just fine.

Also, OP, that IS bad. Everything you've gone through, all the abuse, it's VERY BAD indeed. Your parents have tried to make every single decision for you for pretty much all of your life, which means that they've done their very worst to stop you from developing an identity of your own. That's so horribly self-centered, selfish and abusive that I can't find words to tell how appalled I am.

And you've done so well, OP.. you ARE a person of your own, and you realize it. Despite everything your parents have done, too! I'm impressed.
