  1. Beets/nitrates will not help with a strength training workout so don't bother if that is your purpose.

  2. If this is for endurance training then yes beetroot extract/juice is one of the most effective supplements you can use. Usually taken 30-45 min pre workout.

  3. This is one of the times I would highly recommend a supplement over the actual food. The nitrate in the beets is going to vary widely depending on the soil used and a lot of other factors so getting a supplement that aims for a standard amount will be a lot more consistent.

    Personally I use Beetelite, one serving for exercise <1 hr and 2 if going to be longer than an hour. I also like EAS' preworkout which has a serving in it already

After years of taking pre-workouts I am now trying to stay away from all those chemicals and have been trialing Beet Elite here:

Now it wont give you a pump or get you crazy amped, but I feel it does assist with my endurance... and its just beets. Something to consider.
