If you put it in a ponytail while it’s wet, it will have a noticeable bump.
There are also superior types of hair ties. This is my favourite that doesn’t leave bumps. I have thick hair but if your is thinner, you might like something like these. Make sure your hair is dry first!
these things . they also apparently pull out of your hair very easily. I've never used it because I have short curly hair, but my colleagues have and swear by them.
Unrelated to the thread and you might have already seen these, but if not give these a try. My friend swears by them and used them the entire time she was trying to grow her hair for her wedding.

I'm always weary of having any hair left in my hair ties. The only thing that have worked well for me are invisibobbles.
Avoid washing for as long as you can. I wash about twice a week and use dry shampoo in between. I also love those spiral hair ties (like these: Invisibobble The Traceless Hair Ring - Clear - 3 Pack https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00F23MMF6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lmbzDbXZ6M4TS) and I put my hair up a few times per day but can still wear it down.
As for cute styles to wear your hair up... Let me know when you find out 😂 I usually just wear it in a ponytail or bun. I can do a French braid but I'm not very good at it so I usually just wear it to sleep or maybe to work out.
