Ive been using this for the last year. Ion Tailgate Speaker! It gets plenty loud at quarter volume, its got bluetooth and I charge it maybe once every 3 weeks if thats an issue. I think they have bigger ones than this but for my garage its perfect.

Speaker output is directly proportional to size. Quality between similarly sized speakers may be argued, but ultimately you have to move air and that requires larger speakers for larger volumes.

That said, there are plenty of smaller speakers like the oontz you suggested. Moving air at high frequencies is easy. Low frequencies require the largest of drivers. My wife has one of those oontz and it sounds great. We love it for outdoor get togethers.

My first gig was with this Ion Tailgater in my friend's backyard. I made a stand for it to go on to really help disperse the sound. It doesn't sound near as good as my normal setup, but again it worked.

The downside to these portable speakers is they don't have daisy chain capabilities. You can run in stereo mode with two outputs from your mixer or controller.

We're also having a backyard wedding in MD and considering getting a speaker with a microphone. Something like this.

Hence you already have a speaker, if I were you, I would go to a local Audio equipment store, Target or Walmart, buy a mic, plug it into the speaker and see if it works. If doesn't - return it and try other options. OR, buy a speaker with the mic, use it and then return it.

We were planning on getting a tailgate speaker and then selling it on Craigslist afterwards for whatever we can get for it ($50?).

I bought it and it's very loud, bluetooth or cord to connect, easy to use, comes with a mic, and has 50 hours of battery life (obviously can be recharged)!! It's also super reasonably priced...I couldn't believe it!

... but then preferably a 12 volt one, that you could run straight from a car battery, or perhaps 6 volt / motorcycle battery. Amps chew up power so you want to be able to recharge as opposed to buying batteries.

You could feed a backing track in via your phone, plug your guitar in the mic input ( with a pedal for distortion ), and also use it for, er, karaoke.

Any decent portable PA will do fine. The micro cube is good for it's size, but you can get better (bigger) PAs for about the same price. I've used this one in the past, and it's great:

I'm using an Ion Tailgater for mine. 50 hour battery life, comes with a USB input so you can charge whatever device you'll be playing from. I lucked out and found mine for $30 on clearance at work, hiding in the back room.

The mic that comes with it is hot garbage so in the event you might be needing one, I'd suggest finding a different mic.

I'd highly recommend this unit as a Bluetooth speaker. It gets really loud, lasts for about 80 hours, has AM/FM/AUX, and charging capabilities. The price is right and quality is good. Ion makes a couple other units, the Jobsite rocker is really nice too.

Do you already have the speaker? I have a different setup which was super cheap, and just use youtube videos for karaoke tracks (no subscription).

I use this bluetooth speaker which has 1/8" input from these microphones. I play the sound from the computer out through the speaker, and the video goes through HDMI to the TV screen. I've had great luck with it!

By UE Boom 2, do you mean the UE MEGABOOM? If you paid $270 for the Boom 2, then you got ripped pretty hard.

I use the MEGABOOM at work in a warehouse, and that baby pumps out sound for it's size. It blows the BOOM/BOOM 2 clear out of the water. Easily the best effortlessly portable bluetooth speaker I've owned, and I've went through 4 different brands at work. It has the best sound quality:volume ratio of all four. It doesn't distort at max volume, and lasts a solid 3 hours at max volume in 35 degrees Fahrenheit (I work in a giant refrigerator. The cold nukes battery life.). I can still make out the music it's playing over the Tailgator that coworkers have.

If you can spare the space, go with the Tailgater. It lasts me all day at work (8 to 10 hours) at 75% volume and it will only lose 1 bar of battery out of 4, and it's surprisingly cheap for what it is. It will distort if you max out both your bluetooth device and the speaker itself, though. However, if you're looking for something portable with some low end, this will satisfy your needs. Oh, and it comes with a microphone. Never used it, but just pointing it out.

They're using something like this. No wires, its the main reason I wanted to disrupt the signal.

I've been considering this one. I plan on having the mic hardwired rather than wireless because I've been to weddings with professional wireless setups that still cut in and out!

Our ceremony will be indoors and my fiancé wanted to just project our voices but I wasn't having it. I can almost never hear what's going on at weddings and it always bugs me.

Awesome! That sounds like it might be perfect! This one is what I was eyeing. We're having the ceremony outside and the reception in a tent about 50 yards away, so while not really elegant, we were thinking of entrusting someone to move it from the ceremony site over to the reception area after people start to disperse. It's in a public area so we have the opportunity of troubleshooting ahead of time to make sure it will work.

I can't find the decimal output information. I am not knowledgeable about such things, so I am sure there is a variance depending upon other factors. I would understand that it all depends upon what is being played. (feel free to school me)

If you have something with a lot of bass, test with that.

I was debating the output of the machine with someone. If it was worse or better than something else. I was wondering what it measures at various ranges from close up to increments away (in front of the machine)

Of course, arguments such as these cannot be solved without proof.
