I have this and it is really useful. It won't bend at all and its thick enough to not damage your hands when using.

I have a backpack that I carry with me to work every day, even though my husband and I drive to work.

Its primary function is a gym bag. In it, I carry, of course, my gym clothes plus sneakers, iPod shuffle, workout log, deodorant, chapstick, wallet and so on.

But I also have an emergency packet with various first aid supplies. It's small and light enough that it barely adds any weight, but has things like needle and thread, a bit of twine, painkillers, bandages, reflective mirror, waterproof matches, an energy bar, a mylar blanket, pads and - try not to laugh - three pairs of disposable panties I jacked from a Victoria's Secret fitting room. Hey, you never know!

I mostly started carrying these things because I also use this backpack as a day pack for hiking and figured I might as well leave it in there when I was bussing and biking to work regularly. The nice thing about it is how easy it is to move from one pack to another, so I can throw it into a larger bag for backpacking to further bulk my emergency supplies. It's especially reassuring to have these things when the weather starts getting colder and snow starts threatening to fall. Never know when Seattle might absolutely lose its shit and I might end up having to either sleep in the office or hoof it in the snow halfway home.

I also have a Leatherman-style multitool in an inside pocket, plus a CRKT knife that's tucked into the padding at the lower back support where it can't be seen, but it's easy to grab.

But, when carrying a backpack isn't feasible, I have a thin wallet that fits in my pocket. Alongside my cards and two form of ID are a wallet tool, a couple of bandaids, and an alcohol pad. In that same pocket, I typically carry a tinted lip balm and in another pocket, my phone.

I use a cigarette case as a wallet. I've been using such cases for years. I find them much more comfortable than a typical wallet. I can easily fit in several credit cars, my IDs, a good amount of cash, and this simple tool.

> Unfortunately my pockets are too full for a multi tool. I used to carry one until I wore it to pieces.

I wasn't talking about a multitool like a leatherman. I meant one of those credit card sized wallet tools like these:

These are fine for something to use in a pinch for rough measurements, which you can carry in your wallet, but if you need resolution to a tenth of a millimeter I'm not sure I'd count on these, they're basically glorified rulers. I'm not sure I'd count on that pocket micrometer either though as it's not from any established manufacturer and may be more of a "gee whiz" type item with questionable precision. How do you zero it for example?

"survival" pocket tool. straight from china. I have one as well. I haven't had any need to use it since I already have a Gerber Shard on my keychain, but I figure why not for just $1.
