The best and biggest SSD you can get right now is the m.2 NVMe Samsung Pro 970 2TB. I personally have the Samsung EVO 970 2TB and it’s a great SSD (just a tiny bit slower than the Pro.)
Pro:

EVO:

For Ram, you will want 2666 MHz 260-Pin SODIMMS. I recommend buying a matching set (so they are matched, and are paired so they run optimally for dual channel use.) I would recommend a matched set of 32gb (2x16gb) Hyper X impact (made by Kingston.)

I had really good luck with Kingston Technology HyperX Impact 32GB 2666MHz DDR4 CL15 260-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory, Kit of 2 (HX426S15IB2K2/32). The speed/latency has been perfect for me. I didn't have to mess with the BIOS at all.

I have this in my X1E. It's a bit pricey but, at CL15, is also the fastest. Works flawlessly.

Hey buddy,

I have the same laptop and yes i see good fps in space on planets it drop my assesment is that you would get better performance by putting another stick of ram making it 32 in dual channel as it comes stock with 1 x 16, as it is hard to make certain ram work in this dual channel go for a 32gig kit https://www.amazon.com.au/Kingston-Technology-2666MHz-HX426S15IB2K2-32/dp/B01NAL3TYY

good luck!

Kingston 32GB CL15 DDR4 2666

this is your best bet, it's one of the lowest CL memories available and it's fully compatible with the Blade to run at full 2666. I have the 16gb and it works just fine at the stated timings/speed.

Also, for 2666MHz, how do these two compare? Hyper X and Ballistix

Also, this is the 3200 Hyper X. I know the clock speed is higher, but the CL goes from 15 to 20. I am thinking the 2666 CL15 may be the best value

What test results do you want?

The stock 16GB of RAM is 2666MHz, so it's best to go for something that matches it.

The most popular 216GB kit is: Kingston Technology HyperX Impact 32GB 2666MHz DDR4 CL15 260-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory, Kit of 2 (HX426S15IB2K2/32), because it has a CAS latency of 14, better than stock.

I went with this kit: G.SKILL 32GB (2 x 16G) Ripjaws Series DDR4 2666MHz SODIMM F4-2666C18D-32GRS because I couldn't get the Kingston kit in Australia and it has a CAS latency of 16 making it faster than stock and it works great.

There's also even cheaper: CORSAIR Vengeance Performance 32GB (2x16GB) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Laptop Memory Model CMSX32GX4M2A2666C18 but it has a CAS latency of 18.

Right now the Kingston is cheaper than my GSKILL kit (it was the inverse back when I bought mine) so I'd definitely go with that.

As for 2
32GB (64GB) kits, Samsung has finally released their new kit they teased last year: 2xM471A4G43MB1-CTD, but no one like corsair, kingston or crucial has one available yet, save for mushkin

cc /u/vvildstar just in case you don't see my comment.

And ignore the marketing that says 2019 only supports 64GB, it has the same CPU as the 2018 and therefore both support 64GB.

My knowledge of the different types of RAM is not that great.

Do you know which one of these are the best?

Memory: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01NAL3TYY/
This is the fastest 32GB kit for these laptops, you can find it cheaper from other sellers, even some reputable ones on eBay.

SSD: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07BR9FV1C/

This SSD is an excellent deal at $79.99, and it's as good as if not better than the 970 Evo 512. Same warranty, TBW, and etc. and should throttle less.

  • Why did you choose the Samsung 970 EVO 1Tb and not the Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 1TB SSD?

  • Did you take the internal SSD completely out of the laptop then or use it as a second drive?

  • Do you use Lightroom? And if Yes, how smooth does it ran?

  • Is it this RAM you have ordered?

  • Or do you have a Link to the RAM you chose? :)

This one.

The CPU is good (don't go for the vPro option), and so is the amount of RAM. Don't be surprised when you find out that you're using up a lot more RAM than before though, since Windows gives a percentage of your RAM to Superfetch to speed up application launches. If you're fine with replacing RAM on your own, however, I would go with this set. As for the SSD, since it has 2 slots you can keep the one that comes preconfigured and get an aftermarket one (the 970 Evo Plus from Samsung is better overall).

On another note, since it doesn't look like you'll be gaming, it might be worthwhile to check out the P1 Gen 2, which is the workstation equivalent of the X1E Gen 2. They are pretty much the same, with the only major differences being the graphics card (Quadro instead of GeForce) and the (albeit crazy expensive) factory calibrated 4K panel.
