The wife and I have slowly been upgrading most of our gear to higher end stuff that will last us from year to year. Sure buying cheap pieces of junk from WalMart will save you some cash now, but you wind up having to repurchase everything from year to year.

Things like a tent if you spend a little bit more you can get something that will lend a better experience and last for many years. Potentially saving you money in the long run.

For example, a nice canvas tent. They are extremely durable and compared to that cheap plastic nylon tents, they actually breathe and stay cooler.

Last year I was able to sleep in till noon in the canvas tent. Never been able to pull that off in a nylon tent.

Where exactly are you going? Are you car camping or hiking in?

For car camping you can't go wrong with this bad boy right here.

For car camping and hunting trips I got a Kodiak canvas for $400. I didn't care for the nylon tents that were that big.

Kodiak Canvas has some very nice canvas tents as well:

I would probably go Kodiak over a bell tent because of the ease of setup. Also most of the sites I've camped at this year could support a Kodiak but a large bell tent would be pushing it.

Also know how to maintain a canvas tent:

I'd spend the money in a heartbeat to get a larger canvas tent but I think I need to let the wife come to that conclusion on her own once our $80 WalMart tent bites the dust.
